Not impossible, improbable. Except it's so improbable that you could consider it impossible. So it is impossible. And... I just paradoxed myself, didn't I?

The point is, it would be hard to buy up 51% of EA's stocks simply because of:
1) Everyone is scared about the stock market and doesn't want to lose money (although you could make a pretty penny by buying now...)
2) EA is about to get sued, along with other factors that will result in more money loss and more damaged stocks.

Overall, the situation is looking bad, at least for this idea. Good luck though, although if you want money, I'd go for more sure-fire stocks...

And let's also assume that more than one gamer actually finds enough money in their couch cushions to buy just ONE share of EA stock And in this fantasy, we'll just pretend they wouldn't end up spending it on pizza, the newest "must have title," or a piece of computer hardware. A share of Electronic Arts Inc. (Public, NASDAQ:ERTS) is currently selling for $29.79 (Friday's closing price). There are 318.82 million shares. 51% would be 162,598,200 shares. So it would cost $4,843,800,378. That's BILLION for those of you with a math allergy.

The people you are talking about buying all this stock are purchasers of SPORE. So let's use (for the sake of simplicity and snarky dramatic effect) EA's claim of one million units sold world wide. Communication issues aside, that means you would have to get one million gamers agree on something (in this case to buy 4,844 shares of EA stock at a cost of $144,302.76 each).

Let's face it, you can't get two of them to agree on what to put on the pizza they ended up buying with the $30 bucks they found in the couch cushions.

Other than that... I say it's a FINE idea. Go for it. Let us know how it turns out.

The factors in the market and peoples personal finances are turning them away from buying GAMES in exchange for food.

Thats leave EA in the position they are in now. They are doing whatever they can to get money from the customers they do have. Are they doing it cause they need to say afloat. Maybe. I would hope that Maxis gets sold to a more progressive company that can muster up the capital to make the purchase while EA needs the cash.

Buy the rights to Spore and then work with WW to fix this damaged beauty. Then after MAxis is safe let EA die like the Bloated giant of a company it is. Would be a good leason to other companies that treat there customers like EA does.
Likely Maxis will remain uner the EA umbrella which means we are stuck with this.

MAxis wants to makea good game, Ea whats it Cheap and to appeal to a vast group of gamers.
MAxis wants the game to have science content. EA wants to make sure the game is simple enough you could

Maxis Rejects that idea- EA jingles the Purse! Maxis Caves in exchange for the paycheque.

I don't blame maxis for this failure , I blame EA. Just wish someone would have made a stronger arguement for Science spore in the end.

Either way it is very unlikely you could ever get enough people to get enough stock to top 51%
I wouldnt buy it anyway.

EA has lost over 1/2 its sept 8th value in 2months . IF you bought in now there are two outcomes

1 you get lucky EA rebounds when markets return to normal and you get nice return on buying cheap.

2 you buy in at 18.45 USD for 1000 shares and the stock conitnues to tank leaving you with stock in a company that is worthless.Since Entertainment is often the first thing to be hurt in economic hard times I find the later more likely.
