Hey, been a while since I have had a contest, and you know what, I've been pondering this for a while, and with success of my last contest, I would love to host another one. In fact, you may have noticed the myriad of Monster Hunter based creations, and I now I would like to host a challenge to see the creativity of others based on this fun and entertaining series.

So, for those that don't know, Monster Hunter is a video games series found predominately on the Playstation side of consoles, but recently ported over to Nintendo through Monster Hunter Tri, Monster Hunter 3G, and supposedly Monster Hunter 4. Monster Hunter is founded on the basis that you and a group of either cpu companions or 3 other humans are tasked with hunting and taking down large, dangerous monsters from a variety of exotic locations. These biomes are just as varied as the monster that call them home.

These games are extremely intense, and often hesitating could very well mean life or death, and the inexperienced are quickly K.O.ed if they don't adapt. But the pay off for taking down a beast 3x your size because you were skilled enough though is the best feeling in the world.

Now for this contest, I want you to make your own, original monster based on any species from Monster hunter, including Elderdragons, but I have to warn now UBER MONSTERS WILL NOT GUARANTEE A WIN!!!! Make them somewhat realistic, which is what appeals to me about monster hunter, cause the monsters are believeable. They all have their fair share of strange attributes, but these are biological and not magicall, flame sacs and special organs give the monsters their special abilities, not voodoo. In fact, there really is no magic in this game, just fantasy science.

Monsters follow to trends, either wyvernic or theropodic, most monsters actually look more like dinosaurs than wyverns, even if wyvern is in their name

This group of monsters mainly consists of minnion (or small) monster that are bug-like in nature. These include giant wasps, ants, and crickets in the game but assume any insect is free game for this Class of monsters.

A strange group of monsters, these include species are usually humanoid and intelligent. Some of them work with hunters, while others actively attack hunters on sight. These are usually animal like people or indigenous people.

There are two kinds, true Bird wyverns, that look similar to Pterasaurs or large birds, while a Theropodic subspecies usually take the form of raptors or ceolosaurs

These are probably the widest variety of monsters, and actually split up into to Suborders: True Fly Wyverns, which are all bipedial, and Pseudowyverns which are quadrapedal and don't always have wings.

Probably one of my favorite classes, Piscine Wyverns are amphibious wyverns that have lost the ability to fly and instead now can swim. Not to be mistaken with Leviathans, Piscine wyverns resemble their flying bretheren, but are more fish like.

These contain species of monsters that are not necessarily herbivores, but have a strict mammalian background and are extremely dangerous. Pelagus usually have giant forms of wolves, apes, bears, and other oddities.

The broadest class of monsters, Elder Dragons primarily refers to true dragon forms, quadrupedal monsters with true wings unlike Psuedowyverns, but the group is filled mainly with ultra-rare species of monster, many of which have little or no wyvern lineage, but are still considered Elder Dragons either by size or rarity.

We all know that if there are monsters, then we need someone to hunt them. If you're looking for some extra challenge, outfit a creature to be your monster hunter, give them realistic armor, and bonus points to those that added real weapon classes. Outfitted lynians also count for this challenge, since you have been able to take both Felyne fighters and Shakalaka kids on quests in the past.

Again, I'd love all you talented graphic artist to submit Banners, and new banners will be showcased every day there is a new banner. To increase the completion, special trophies will be given to those who make a banner, and the top banner will get a #1 Banner Trophy. I would like custom banner for this contest, and would love to see you guys make me an awesome one.

@mtsloud: yes and no, you need to classify it as a Lynian BUT it does not have to be a cat or indigenous, all though lynians arn't very broad in the monster department on examples, I would assume that a lynian is anything that is humanoid by form, but not human, animal people or bizarre indigenous tribes both fit this class, good question btw. Like the chameleos this creature has the ability to go invisible which allows it to move around easily without being seen. It is also a lot quicker than the chameleos, however just before every attack and during it's stealth turns off. It's main attacks are charges, however it can also use the bristles on it's tail and wings to spread poison which can only be described as painting.

@grindstone: for bonus challenge, descriptions aren't necessary but they are always encouraged

edit: also, don't worry about the lynian, it's very good as is. Usually, since lynians are sentiant, they are still clothed and armed/armored when you meet them in the wild. The Whole purpose in the bonus challenge is for hunters and hunter companions. If you really wanted your lynian to be submitted there, you'd have to some how relate it to become a hunter companion. And, it would be fair to say that you should only be allowed to submit the exact same creature only for one category, New Entity can do both because he submitted both a wild lynian and different lynian hunter companions. I'd say leave it as is and if you want to add it to the Bonus Challenge, reoutfit and give it a back story that makes it a hunter companion. This was not to attack your creation but just to clear up any lingering doubts, still love your creation man, you're doing great.

Well, I'll do this in one sentence, or try. Love your lynian grindstone, it's really awesome and glad you submitted it, but this is why it's not on the bonus challenge at this moment.

Right now, it is a monster because it opposes the hunter guild (as stated in your descript) and will not cooperate with hunters. Lynians can be outfitted but that doesn't mean that they qualify the bonus challenge (I will change the rules if this is not apparent, I appologize now for the confusion).

Your lynian can be submitted if you reoutfit him and explain why he works for/with hunters. But right now, your entry would be considered a monster, so is set in the lynian category by default.

Grindstone, I love your entry, it's awesome. It has nothing to do with the quality of the creation, or me liking Entity's more. Unfortuanetly, it's a minor detail I seem to have left out and am going to change it, I apologize for the inconvience. If you still want to, reoutfit him and resubmit a hunter version, then it can be included in the bonus with the bonus challenge. Then you will have both a monster version and a hunter version submitted. You can use the same lynian for both but right now he can only qualify as a monster, by his description.

Piscine Wyvern
[Description]
Nahuatl: Unisex name derived from the name of the Nahuatl language, meaning "four waters."

This Piscine has developed large frontward limbs that could almost be wings, but are not sufficant to give the uplift it needs to fly. Instead it uses these massive limbs to push through the water, and it will even breach the surface to glide distance before breaching back into the water for fast travel.

Considering it is blind it has a echo location to detect prey. The light gresy color allow it to blend in perfectly with the ocean waters, allowing it to be a very deadly ambush predator.

When it is not hunting you may find a grouping of 10 - 15 or so on rocky cliffs or shores, it is very social, and the females chooses mates by son, the male with the more appealing song is chosen. When they mate the male sticks around to provide for the nest while the females stay with clutch of eggs/hatchling until maturity. Ihen the pair go their seperate ways. It is not uncommon for them to be a mating pair again when their paths cross once more.

The can grow to be 10 meters long from head to tail. it has yet to be determind how long they can approximately live.

Description: A subspecies of the Barroth. This particular species of the Barroth can be found at the volcano. Unlike a normal Barroth. Rather then mud, to protect itself from other large monsters and hunters it covers its body in the surrounding pools of lava. For attacking it can fling excess lava off of its body to inflict the burn condition. It also will charge into opponents with it's large head and can preform the tail sweep. The Bargroth has a slight overall weakness to ice. Fire will do extra damage when covered in lava (the fire helps burn the molten rocks off the body). And water when it has no lava. When it becomes tired, to regain stamina the Bargroth feeds on a Neopteron nest.

By the way I noticed that some of the descriptions for the other entrees talked about the monster's mating rituals. No where in the games or on Monster Hunter Wiki does it talk about how the monsters "do it". Sure we all know that they do, and that's interesting and all that. But I personally don't think that it should even be mentioned. Talk about how the monsters fights or what they eat instead.

First thought to be Lynians because of their armour that they wear, I turns out that they are just simple Neopterons. The armour is made from gathered items that are collected on their backs as an extra exoskeleton. They are large for insets roughly the size of a cow. They aren't aggressive but if provoked they can charge at the hunter and even flail their bodies which causes the items on their backs to fly off and hit enemies. The Delakorm is weak against ice and water and is prized for it's large tusks.

Reason: Yes it has wings and the line between a fly wyvern and a bird wyvern are not well defined, but this has a very bird like appearance. I like it, it's one of my favorite ones you've made. I just think that by virtue of appearance, with feathers and a beak, bird wyvern fits the bill better than a fly wyvern. Fly wyverns look more like traditional west european dragons for example, which were also called wyverns and were bipedal. These dragons usually didn't have feathers, were more reptilian, and usually had more facial structure (ears, nose, face, etc.) not a beak, or a small one[/i]

This Dragon may be confused as a bird wyvern because of it's beak, however this creature is actually classed as an Elder Dragon. It has a dazzeling white body that reflects sunlight as clearly as a mirror and so it's scales are worth a lot of money. Theese scales can also be used to distract and confuse enemies this is usually done by it tilting it's wings towrds the enemy. This also however makes it more easily seen by predators, luckily enough for the Reluk'ui it is a tough fighter. It has no claws on it's feet and so manly attacks from the front with it's beak, but with the blinding reflection from it's scales it can quickly tear into it's prey before they even understand what is happening. Sound good, it's a great idea and orginally I started an adventure that was a Spore MH, but I havn't had time to finish it. Feel free to use any of my hunters/ monsters that I've created. My orginal idea was to have the captain be players camptain and he/she chooses from various other hunters (why I made a hunter with every weapon in the game) to join them, by recruiting them through socializing and adding them to your posse.

Hope you can take this concept and not only finish it but make it better. I just don't have the time or patients to do an adventure anymore

The first is a pelagus. The last two are elder dragons. The second I am undecided. it looks like a wyvern but has feathers, so I don't have to enter it if I cant.

Option 1: is that you socialize with them and only have 1 slot for them to follow you. This however only works if your hunter has good socialization skills. Mine failed as he didn't have any charm :/. Could make a locked captain who then has maxed out on all social skills.

Option 2: the Lynian follows an item that you can pick up, this means having a different item for each one, but this means you can take more than one lynian with you depending on how many hands you have. Also you have to throw the item down every time you want to fight and pick it up after.

Option 3: there is one item. You give it to the Lynian of choice to make them follow you. Only downside is they throw the item when they start to fight and you need to pick it up after again.

Also since there are different themes for different areas. There could be an adventure based on each place and a different Lynian for each one as we have My Lynian for deserts, The Chameleon for the forest, the winter hare for the tundra, the Frog for the swamp etc.

The Argorus are lobster like cretures. They don't use their legs much and tend to swim. Usually they are about the size of a hermituar and are only an annoyance to hunters. But leave them to age and they can rival a Ceadeus in size.

This is an Argorus that has lived for hundreds or thousands of years. It has grown so lareg that it can no longer swim and instead walks on it's legs. It poses a great threat to hunters.

Wild Arull, these creatures make thier armor and weapons from bones or whatever items are droped by hunters. They take gords full of water with them when they go to the surface so that they can keep themselves damp.

As a fifth option, you could make it so a monster drops an item, you give it to the Lynian, and the Lynian takes it through a teleporter that brings it to a group of armored versions. Then, the corresponding armored version is programmed to leave the area and go to you when it sees the item.

P.S. I fully support you in your attempts for this adventure, so I'll try to help with monsters and props if I can.

I checked of your adventure and your right. My idea would only work best if your planning on devoting the entire adventure to slay one monster. Well I'm not all that good with buildings so i guess you could help out there, pretty much got desert buildings done.

Was thinking of a winter style village could base the buildings off of the mh2 game, also need swamp village, volcano, forest and sea side could be based off of mh3.
