How to edit your homeworld WITHOUT mods.

Yes, you can actually do that. It's not too terribly difficult either.

1. Choose a blank save and pick the space stage. Fly around near your homesystem and write down/memorize the arm location and surrounding solar systems. Then quit without saving.

2. Load another save at the space stage, one with at least Interstellar Drive 4 and a few terraforming and planet editor tools. Fly to the location in the correct arm and look for any familiar solar systems until you find the right one.

3. Terraform it up and save, go to the galaxy screen, and begin on your newly-refurbished homeworld!

And that's all you need to do to change the surface. Changing trees, however, is more risky. You will have to terraform the planet to T0 and then back to T3, which may cause glitches. You can put random creatures down, because it's not going to matter in the creature stage.

You can do this to the surrounding planets and moons, too. It's even possible to Planetbust them, although I definitely don't recommend doing that.

Re:How to edit your homeworld WITHOUT mods.

Answer Time!!

1 - You can connect up the continents, but this will result in glitchyness during civ (only 4 cities appear, but each capture results in a quarter of the entire progress bar being filled up, so you'll still be avle to finish)

2 - You find the location by starting a space stage gem (as stated in OP), hover over the little spaceship icon, note down the numbers that apear (angle, distance...), quit WITHOUT saving, load up another empire, fly over there, scult and colour to taste, go back to main menu, start new game.

Have I missed anything out?

Brilliant idea! I will try it out asap. I'm curious to see what'll happen if I make the whole planet covered with water and then play on it in the creature stage.

I think I've heard somewhere that you can only use the planet editing tools, and if you change any of the life on the planet, your world just becomes a barren void, making the creature stage impossible. Also, I've heard that if you edit anyother planet in your system, the space stage doesn't work because you can't find the ship, only the city, but on that planet.

Honestly I think the problem with my saved game is that, I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but when you advance to the space stage, even the spice geysers that you didn't claim manually are automatically claimed, and when I was creating bridges between the continents as I like to do, I accidentally completely blocked an aquatic spice geyser, thus rendering it completely unable to be claimed. EDIT: Also, Aziz, completely water planet is not a good idea, as neither tribes nor cities can be in the water. I would say nests as well, but I have come across a glitch in one of my playthroughs where the creatures walked on the water and swam in the earth and only MY creature's nest was in the water, all of the potential enemy/friend nests were on the land and I couldn't reach them so I had to delete the saved game.

It's weird. I didn't delete it, I just stopped playing that planet and kept it around to laugh at. I had something like 300+ planets in that game, but my pc self destructed, taking all kinds of glitchy goodness with it.
