Here is my Spore post patch problem.

Ok so i just had a baby boy this sunday so I have been fairly unable to play anything, I didn't load up anything after my spore patch problems just didnt have time. Tonight I finally got some time and had bought Warhammer: Age of Reckoning. So I get it installed and start playing, man is everything choppy.

Ok so I am kinda upset its like Spore post patch kind of choppiness. Hmm ok lemme load up World of Warcraft, thats the best written graphics engine I know of, well well its choppy as heck, crysis, its choppy too, what in the heck is going on here!?!?!?

So I figure its one of two things

1) Something in the spore patch hosed my vid drivers, this seems really strange.
2) It has something to do with SecuROM, I am thinking this is the case since I remember the nightmare systemwide problems I ran into with Starforce and City Life, that ended up causing me a full system wipe

Sooo, I uninstall Spore (its still installed with patch I was testing the performance options to see if I could get it playable) thenI uninstall SecuROM using these instructions (the securom uninstall tool doesn't work)

note:
I had no uaservice7 nor cmdlineext.dll, I did have to install the dldelinv utility to delete files in the securom folder.

And low and behold everything is running as smooth as it was before installing the patch, and uh no i am not reinstalling Spore to find out if I can get it to work without SecuRom.

Holy crud. I have never ever looked forward to a PC game as much as spore and now because of some idiotic DRM 3rd party tool I can't play it!!!!!!! I am betting there was a SecuROM update included with the patch that hosed things up for some users. The inclination that I had before is gaining legitamacy, there are at least a good majority of users who are running Spore with a legal key and the pirated install, that or a legal key and Spore installed with SecuROM uninstalled. Either one of these conditions based on my problem with the patch would have prevented the problem.

This is just unbelievable and I have never ever said it before but I want my money back. EA/Maxis if you want DRM write it yourselves I am sick and tired of companies thinking they can buy these products and integrate them into their release cycles. Because of it's sector zero placement it also gets priority on the memory and IRQ usage (even though it is just a verify). So some crashes are simply Spore and SecurRom going for the same location at the same time. Oh and the DRM's memory usage can get big during a drive check. It gets priority and does not report it's memory usage properly to your governing OS. This will of course create many problem if you are tight on memory.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Good thing you installed this on your system eh?

Also everything worked fine with 1.0 and secuROM so I am guessing they released some kind of update to secuROM in 1.01 that is at the root of all the problems. And 10 to 1 they released something to try and kill pirated versions trying to install the patch. And it appears the pirated versions without secuROM are unaffected by the patch and legit copies get hosed.

This is what truly makes me angry is that not only are they imposing DRM on the legitamate customers but their using a 3rd party tool and not properly integrating into their testing and release cycle.

It, like an invasive weed, merely reinstalls itself if the game is still installed and in-use.

SecuROM cannot be completely removed from your system without a total reformat. All other manual means of removal leave traces behind.

Problem is, because of the games connection to the servers (i'm assuming) SecuROM reinstalls itself upon game startup.

I KNOW it's the servers because I installed a no-cd crack so I could shelf my disc (I don't like swapping discs, so sue me :p) and it STILL reinstalls itself.

Its either that, or the game's programming itself has some sort of self-install when the game starts up that's part of the files installed on the computer by the Spore setup process.

Then again, it could be the EADM that reinstalls it. I dunno.....matter of fact, i just uninstalled EADM....I'm gonna give the removal a try again. Well don't i just feel like a fricken dork...

Either way, I just removed SecuROM again, and reapplied the "crack" that was released with the pirated version.....now, either that is incompatible with the retail version of the game, or it's just that it doesn't work with the patched version of the game.

Either way, removal of SecuROM and use of that crack caused the game to crash before the splash screen could load.

just follow those instructions I linked, find a non-virus copy of the 1.01 crack (i don't want to get banned or anything, so i won't link to the crack), and then start up the game.

From my pov I don't care if you want to verify I'm a licensed user.
I do however strongly object to your trashing my registry and OS files by the use of NULL/Invalid data.
And whatever happened to me today was inexcusable.
An instruction from a registered EA address instructed EADM to request my OS to trash the .exe headers of both my antivirus and registry watchdog executables.
45 minutes after this was prevented another request attempted to revoke my admin privileges.
Upon inspection the only program that had attempted to establish superior credentials was SecuROM.
So don't even try to justify this piece of crap with me.

You are saying that you are using a cracked Spore 1.01, with no Securom, and you are still able to use the online content?

I find this hard to believe. :shock: Please confirm you're getting online content. Start a creature stage or something. If you've got this to work, I am removing Securom and getting a 1.01 crack tonight. :mrgreen:

Yeah i see what you're saying. It could be that a genuine copy of Spore can be cracked to run without securom and still use online content. If you've removed Securom first using the method that's been previously posted..you're finally free!

Also, check if it installs itself again when you connect to the servers. Because that would suck.

After following the below steps, I'm now running Spore with full online access, logged into my Spore account (which is linked to my CD key) but WITHOUT SecuROM.

To test my online access I created this guy AFTER removing SecuROM.

I'm not going to post a link to the crack I used because that's likely to get me banned. However here are some of the details of the file. Googling spore crack 1.01 is likely to get you to this cracked file eventually.
By cracked I mean it has had SecuROM stripped from it.

File format: PC
file name: sporeapp.exe
file size: 34.1mb (torrent was 9.68mb as compressed)
torrent crack name: Crack SPORE ((v1.1.0.358))

Here's another link to the secuROM removal instructions that were mentioned elsewhere on this forum.

[u]Steps taken[/u]

1) Reboot your PC
2) Download above crack but please virus check as there ARE some with viruses, PM me for a link but I'm not responsible for any damage either way.
3) Virus check the download after you get it
4) FULLY follow the above 'Reclaimyourgame' instructions to remove secuROM files from your PC
5) Now browse to where you installed spore ie. c:\program files\spore\sporebin
6) [b]Rename sporeapp.exe to sporeapp.old[/b]
7) Now copy the sporeapp.exe you downloaded into the "sporebin" folder
7) Uninstall EA download manager (this just seemed like a good idea)
8) Launch Spore using whatever shortcut you like or double-click sporeapp.exe

Spore should start up as normal, except of course without our annoying friend Mr SecuROM.

You can check this by looking in "C:\Documents and Settings\Draycen\Application Data" and see if the 'SECUROM' folder is there. If it [u]isn't[/u] there, you're ok.

Incidentally I see no reason why these steps wouldn't work for a Mac, as long as you could track down a cracked exe and corrected folder locations etc. My understanding is that Spore on Mac is actually run using a PC emulator, hence my reasons for thinking it should work.

Honsetly, it makes no sense for a company to release a product that individuals need to resort to illegal means in order to use. The game will not re-install SecuROM if you've done everything properly and exactly to the T on the instructions.

The best part, aside from no longer having SecuROM, is that the game will startup INSTANTLY now, like it should, and have less slowdown in-game (for me, at least).

Just uninstalled SecuROM and I'm now downloading the crack. I haven't been able to play more than 10 minutes since that SPORE patch was released. Can't wait!

But I do have a [b]question[/b]... I had the "Space is FUN" crack installed before all this--the one that cut down on attacks and disasters in Space Stage. Did the patch overwrite it? Did the patch actually [i]fix[/i] the space age timings to something more playable? Will this crack uninstall my previous crack if it's still there? Compatibility issues?

I'll try to figure out what happened to it when I play. Just thought someone smarter than me might already know the answer to this.

Just read the guy's "conversation" with SecuROM support. Supposedly that fixed it and removed SecuROM from his computer.

Now, like I said, I don't know much about Macs, but if you install a cd-crack for version 1.01 after removing SecuROM, you should be good to go like the rest of us. Just remember to install the crack before you try starting the game after you remove SecuROM, otherwise it'll just install itself again. Hi PP. Not heard of this patch before but if it works my modifying the same sporeapp.exe then it definitely wouldn't work. If it's a series of changes to values in other files, as I suspect, then it may very well still work.

Give it a try using my instructions for removing secuROM earlier in the thread and let us know. It either will or wont so no harm in trying. (Although I'd backup your 'spore' folder first just in case).

Following those directions would be completely counterproductive. "Hey, put that disc in that ensures SecuROM is installed, then make an analysis file and send it to us so as to help us spy on you even more than SecuROM itself does"

I just finished following the above to the letter and
1. It does completely remove SecuROM
2. Things now load faster without SecuROM
3. The lag and invisible problem seems to be gone.

BUT in both online play and offline play I now CTD sooner and more consistently than I did before following this procedure.

Glad to hear it solved at least some of your problems. About the crashing, your save game might be corrupted, try backing up your save folder, then renaming it to something else and starting a new game. I see people calling their Saved games "corrupted". I think this is too much of a "Jump to Cause". It could just be that the game engine cannot properly handle all the activity that is happening in the background of a mature game that is not there when you first start a game.

I also still see problems that clearly show this game did not complete a proper QA cycle. For example, when leaving a planets atmosphere it will get stuck (looping) in the space ship animation and will not continue zooming out to the star system view. If you reverse and zoom back into the planet and then back out again it will get past the animation and continue moving out to the star system view.

There are lots of other problems that I could test and report symptoms-possible/probable cause, BUT guess what I am not getting paid to QA this thing.

This is not uncommon for EA published games. Get it out and start the revenues flowing whether it is ready or not.
They will continue to get away with it as long as people continue to buy their games. Unfortunately EA has the clout to control many of the more popular games developed.

BUT there are other publishers out there that are doing a better job of putting out quality games when they are ready for prime time not just when they are ready enough to get people to open up their wallets.

I for one will now wait for a patch and see what other peoples experience with it is before spending anymore time on this game. I have told my son to absolutely NOT install the patch and stay on 1.00.

Just thought I would let you know that in fact my lagging issues have now come back. Using the crack to remove secuROM did work for a short time, but no longer. Absolutely no idea why though and secuROM is still not installed.

Anyway. I've given up now. I've spent SO much time trying to get this game working again since the patch, so I've emailed the retailer I purchased it from to see if I can still return it for a refund. Unfortunately I bought it 32 days ago so am probably out of time.

I'd just like to say that I massively enjoyed the time I played Spore before the patch but am no longer willing to wait for the game to be fixed.

Last night he told me that he is starting to CTD also.

I am definitely jumping to cause here, but symptoms indicate that a number of these problems are related to how much activity you have going on in the background of your current game.

Other than the shallow gameplay, I had been having little in the way of actual problems. Sometime after but not immediately following the patch, I started getting spontaneous reboots - whan the reboot had completed I was getting a report form XP that the failure was due to USB problems - both in SPORE and out as well. These were occuring even if the PC was sitting idle, and happening between every 30 minutes and 2 hours. I had also upgraded my antispyware and registry cleaning programs and initially thought they were the cause. System restore failed. After uninstalling the antispyware and registry cleaner no change.

Then to this thread where NERO was mentioned. This has been installed on my PC since delivery a year ago and I had never used it. I had been all ready to remove Securom as described above and decided to simply remove NERO in the meantime. Coming up to three days without a problem now. The spyware and registry cleaner were reinstalled after the first 24 hours of this period btw.
