Your entry should be in the form of a creature tagged [i]mclightningchallenge[/i] based on the template provided. Entries will be judged on creativity, adherence to creaturmclightningchallengee bio, how well they animate.

[b]Bio:[/b]Lightning stalkers have been the scourge of stragglers and survivors since the planet’s ice-age set in. Heavily armored with terrible claws and horns protruding from across their bodies, lightning stalkers are highly adept at tracking prey for hours, days or even weeks if food is scarce. While they’re quite capable of ripping their targets to bloody shreds with their claws, they more often strike at a distance with blinding bolts of their electroplasma.

[b]Template restrictions:[/b] You may not modify (scale, move, remove) the spine, legs, arms, "fingers" or mouth. You may swap out the feet as desired. You may add parts anywhere.

I start to wonder that this kind of template challenge is about DarkSpore, Isn't it .
This is my guess.

1. From the given Bio. of all (or at least, most) template challenge, it's about attacking with something mostly not available in Spore or GA parts.

2. From all of the template, We may not allow to modify most of the part that involve in the "moving animation". (Probably, easy to test and control animation in DarkSpore.)

3. The color reference usually look realistic or have "dark theme" pattern.

4. From what I saw in Mythology challenge, You use some entries to test out GA so this kind of challenge may probably be the same (or may be, you're going to use the winner creation in DarkSpore).

5. Who knows, may be this is the preparation to ensure that when DarkSpore comes out, it will have a lot of creations to fill-in.

May be I'm wrong, I'm just guessing.

Thats Maxis for you.
Besides, this is what I call a nuetral template.
Both good and bad creators can use it and it wont look to bad.
Some templates only look good if it is edited in a certain way, but this one can be anything inside the given rules.

Right-click the template image on the original post and click "Save Picture As" Next, start up Spore and enter the creature creator (set the game to window mode) then find the image of the template and drag it into the creator, and vola!

You can post up your entry by going to Spore.com and clicking your entry in the Sporepedia. Next, when you see the large version of the creation's card, right-click it and click properties, and copy the URL. Then, you can post it here inside the url tags.

@N-Minus - shucks, don't feel stupid. It is hard to keep all the nuances of these template contests straight. Would be nice to have a little more freedom to make better creatures without the restrictions. But, I suppose there is a game plan here that has to do with something under development, perhaps an expansion or even whatever "Dark Spore" is about.

Could we please have some more content for the game? I mean, one parts pack, and expansion pack, and just a handful of patches? You can do better than that! It's been over a year since GA released, and in that time The Sims 3 released two expansion packs, one stuff pack, and are already midway through a second one. And GA released just a few days after The Sims 3 did!

Bios:

-Storm Watcher

The Storm Watchers live in harsh and disastrous environments. They can live in cold places that can go up to -500 Degrees Celsius. They gaze restlessly at the black skies of their planets, waiting for the lightning to cone. Once the coming storm arrives, they vanish without a trace. Their bodies are covered in oily hides, being able to use the oil to temporarily remove their skin marks, turning it black. Once they find prey, they summon clouds to block the prey's sight, when the time is right, they cook their prey with plasma that induces paralysis, resulting in the food to be cooked alive, while being unable to escape at the same time.

-Acid Rain

The alien species that appear only on times of acid rain. Not much is known about these creatures. They believe it was once a regular species that had been exposed to radiation and harsh mutation. They tend to live in urban planets, residing in the sewers below, when the rain comes, they pop out of the sewers. They feed off non-organic objects, or at least half-non organic. The Grox are common prey for these creatures, as their immunity to lasers and bullets are well known. No matter how harsh the condition may be, these monsters move forward. They also emit radiation from their antennas.

Technically as much as you hate it Bot Parts can be considered an expansion pack, and all of the other SPORE games can be considered sequels. Like heroes, origins, and creature.

That lower spike looks.... like it would be a "offensive creature", not to be "that guy" and i can't tell if the Horrorlump is on the stomach area or not, so i might be wrong...

My Spore Creator has developed a bit of a glitch and tends to want to superimpose a dark color on my latest creations regardless of what I do to try to get the color to change. So, I decided to go with the flow for a bit and make a dark stalker creature. The name and bio indicate that the creature is supposed to stalk, which suggests it ought to blend into its surrounds and actually stalk its prey. So here we go just for fun.

I read something about an ice age, so I thought I'd give it some cold colors that would blend in more in a snowy landscape. Also focused on the heavily armored part with this one.

The template image at the start of this thread, right click it and save to our desktop, then with spore running and minimalised drag the picture icon to the miniturised spore window. It should then show up in your recently downloaded tab in spore.

Hope that helps, there's other ways to download it, such as from the sporepedia on the spore website

i got bored and made a few more lightning stalkers, i probsbly made too much but i am doing this for fun more than anything.

cold seas stalker, loosely inspired by a hammerhead shark. I weren't aiming for a literal hammerhead shark look, just a sharky asppearance with eyes off to the side.

Maxis needs to focus on making updates for Spore itself, and quit attempting these console games. They are going to suck in the light of real Spore. Doing all this for console games is a waste of time, in my opinion.

At least make Darkspore as a update for the original Spore, and not a kiddie game for the PS3 that neglects to include the factors that make Spore a unique game in the first place, such as creativity, sharing with the community, and creating your own backstory for your game, and not having the game guide it for you.

Darkspore is a good idea unto itself, but making it as a stand-alone quest game on the PS3 is a bad idea. Probably half of Spore customers don't have a PS3 in the first place. But all Spore customers have a computer. So release a Darkspore expantion for Spore. You would get much more money that way.

I am a huge fan of Maxis, but I, along with the rest of the community are not happy with the recent turn of events. You need to focus more on your prime product, Spore, and less on other stand alones. I personaly like template challenges, but this "dark" theme has worn away my creativity.

Don't get me wrong, I love Maxis and Spore. But this is a HUGE mistake.

The login glitch for Sporum seems not have been solved - been happening to me for more than a year. Fix is to login a little differently. Instead of

There actually may be, since they seem to be exporting the Spore creatures as .dae files or through some similar medium, meaning that whether or not the creature is outfitted has nothing to do with whether it can appear as an NPC or not.

However, they do have a strong preference towards non-outfitted entries. Does anyone know of an outfitted finalist in any of the contests to date?

The mod (shooting galaxies) will in no way actually effect an online creature, once on an another computer the mod will not exist there unless they go and download it (the mod) themselves.

I'm pretty sure this was based on how a real "Lightning Stalker" would look, not to make it too complex or it would be too heavy. I think this is meant to be on how it looks for it's hunting skills. Most of the best entries here have very bulky Characteristics, however most of the ones I saw on the Sporecast looked light and efficient enough to be great predators. I think we should go for them next time, not just to go for flashy appearances and things like that.

Yep. We are tossing around ideas for changing up the format a bit. We've been listening to your ideas about having players create the templates, or even having more free form entry possibilities.

We're going to work out the details a bit, then post a new challenge soon.

Where are pics of the winners posted? I mean of the finalists. I try and I try, but I'm just not good enough...I'll bet no one even looked at mine. Oh well. Maybe I'll have better luck in the next contest? I just think that even if someone has been featured or already won one of these contests, they don't go easy on amatuer creators like me, therefore leaving me, and every other amateur that entered, in the dust. I find it somewhat sad. But congrats anyway! You guys deserve it! Maybe one day I'll be in Darkspore...

I was so self obsolesced that I would at least be in the finalist.

I saw me winning in 3 dreams!! Really. Some of the finalist were not that good. The winners were excellent but, not what the other contest measure up to.

They have to fit in their class, because, according to this one video, gamers have to be able to immediately realize what class an enemy belongs to simply by looking at it.

[b]Bio:[/b]Lightning stalkers have been the scourge of stragglers and survivors since the planet’s ice-age set in. Heavily armored with terrible claws and horns protruding from across their bodies, lightning stalkers are highly adept at tracking prey for hours, days or even weeks if food is scarce. While they’re quite capable of ripping their targets to bloody shreds with their claws, they more often strike at a distance with blinding bolts of their electroplasma.
