How to Retrieve Your Game's Registration Key/Serial Number in Windows

[b][size=14]Retrieving Serial/Registration Keys in Windows Operating Systems[/size][/b]

This guide explains how to access your computer's registry to find the individual registration keys for your SPORE game and expansions. It requires that you access and search an area of your computer which contains extremely important strings of data that if corrupted or altered may cause your computer to stop functioning properly. If you are uncomfortable with accessing the registry, you may be able to retrieve the key via EA's website if the game was registered: http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/15/5198.page#256672

[b]Accessing the Registry Editor[/b]

In order to gain access to your registry, you’ll need to follow these basic steps:

1. Open the start bar and hit "Run." Alternatively, if "Run" does not show up in the start bar normally (as I have seen on Vista and Windows 7 systems) you can just use the built in search bar and search for the "Run" program.
2. Enter the command "regedit" in the little bar. A new window will open with a bunch of folders called "Registry Editor."

Now that you’ve got the Registry Editor open, you’ll need to find a different set of folders depending on the operating system you’re using and whether or not you have a solid copy of the game or a downloaded version.

[b]Windows XP/Vista 32-bit Operating Systems[/b]

[b]For Windows XP/Vista32 solid copy:[/b]

1. Find the folder that says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Pop that open by clicking the little plus sign. More folders will appear.
2. Find the one marked "Software" and open that too. Again, more folders will appear.
3. Find the folder marked "Electronic Arts" in the new folders and open it.
4. Now find the folder marked “EA Games” and open it.
5. Now find the folder marked “SPORE(TM)” and open it.

5a. If you are looking for the registration key for an expansion, inside the EA Games folder there should also be folders that say "SPORE Creepy and Cute Parts Pack" and "SPORE Galactic Adventures" depending on what you have installed. Instead of opening the "SPORE(TM)" folder, open the appropriate expansion folder and proceed to step 6.

6. There should be a folder marked “ergc” in there; that will have your registration key.*

*If this folder is not there, see the note at the bottom.

[b]For Windows XP/Vista32 downloaded copy:[/b]

1. Find the folder that says HKEY _CURRENT_USER. Pop that open by clicking the little plus sign. More folders will appear.
2. Find the one marked "Software" and open that too. Again, more folders will appear.
3. Find the folder marked "Electronic Arts" in the new folders and open it.
4. Keep opening all folders in "Electronic Arts" until you come to one marked "spore_dd."

4a. The Creepy and Cute Parts Pack should also be inside the Electronic Arts folder and is marked as "spore_bp1." If you are looking for this registration key, open the "spore_bp1" folder and proceed to step 6.

5. Open "spore_dd." Two folders should display. They will be marked "ergc" and "MemberName."
6. Click on the folder marked “ergc” in there; that will have your registration key.

[b]Note: The above method (Windows XP/Vista 32 downloaded copy) is also valid for a Windows XP hard copy if for some reason your ergc folder is missing when you use the first method. I assume it is also valid for a Windows Vista 32 hard copy, but have not tested it myself.[/b]

[b]Windows Vista 64-bit Operating Systems[/b]

[b]For Windows Vista64 solid copy:[/b]

1. Find the folder that says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Pop that open by clicking the little plus sign. More folders will appear.
2. Find the folder marked “Wow6432Node” and open it.
3. Find the one marked "Software" and open that too. Again, more folders will appear.
4. Find the folder marked "Electronic Arts" in the new folders and open it.
5. Now find the folder marked “EA Games” and open it.
6. Now find the folder marked “SPORE(TM)” and open it.

6a. If you are looking for the registration key for an expansion, inside the EA Games folder there should also be folders that say "SPORE Creepy and Cute Parts Pack" and "SPORE Galactic Adventures" depending on what you have installed. For those among us who decided to leap right into Windows 7 and use it as their primary OS, see the following instructions.

[b]For Windows 7 Release Candidate 64-bit (Hopefully this will be valid for the actual 64-bit version)**:[/b]

1. Find the folder marked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Open it by clicking the plus sign.
2. Find the folder marked "SOFTWARE." Open that.
3. Find the folder marked "Wow6342Node." Open that.
4. Find the folder marked "Electronic Arts." Open that. Please note that there may also be an "EA Games" folder in the Wow6342Node folder, however, this is not the folder which contains the registration keys.
5. Inside the Electronic Arts folder, there is a second "EA Games" folder. This one should be opened.
6. Inside this folder, there will be a folder marked "SPORE(TM)." Open it.
7. There will be a folder marked "ergc." This folder has the registration key.

**Important Note about Windows 7: As far as I can tell, this method of retrieval for Windows 7 is valid for a downloaded copy only, however, I cannot confirm this. I am using a downloaded copy of SPORE, Creepy and Cute and a solid copy of Galactic Adventures. When checking for the key, there were also folders for the expansions marked "SPORE Creepy and Cute Parts Pack" and "SPORE Galactic Adventures" inside the same EA Games folder which contained their own ergc folders and registration keys. Since Galactic Adventures was also present, this method may be valid for a solid copy of SPORE.

[b]For Windows 7 Release Candidate 32-bit:[/b]

In all cases, the registration key should appear under the data column when you click on ergc.

I am also looking for information regarding the folder path for Windows 7 32-bit systems.

So in essence, someone at my terminal can edit my registry and obtain my key.. wow. (even hack into my computer and do as such, using a backdoor they found in the Sony DRM. (remember the CD rootkit anyone))

They go to great lengths protecting their product with the DRM but not my key.

Vista users just need to hit the windows key and type regedit. There's no need for the Run command (though in typical M$ fashion you can add it as a pointless option..) :)

In addition, if your game was registered you can go to [i]http://support.ea.com[/i], click My Account, then My Games. After you have logged in, you can go to the My Games tab and it should have your code there.

If it was not registered, you will need to obtain a new code.

It's only printed in the one location in my experience.

Unless you manually went into registry using a registry edit program and deleted the key it is going to be there. If you can't find it then contact support directly to see if they can look up your information.

I've made a major update to the main post to include information for finding expansion pack keys and some info about Windows 7. It would be very helpful if users comfortable with using regedit could find a few things for me.

I have Windows Vista and the downloaded version of the pack... I figured that it might be in one of the Instruction Manual files you can get from the EA Download Manager, but no good. :/ Looks like there's no instructions for how to retrieve my serial number here. ><; Can someone help?

When i try to retrieve mine there is an electronic arts folder only. Inside the ea folder is a file named ea core. That is it.

If you can not locate the information in the registry you will need to contact support. The fastest way is to call 866 543 5435 USA toll free and ask for them to look up your serial number.

about 32-bit vs 64-bit windows, the difference is for 32-bit programs like spore windows inserts that wow6432 node in the registry path. if you have the location for one then the location for the other is either to add or remove the wow6432 node.

i'm running spore installed from dvd on windows 7 rc 64-bit on my main computer and windows 7 rc 32-bit on my laptop -- let me know if you want me to confirm any registry locations.

Hey guys, you're going to hate me; not really, but i bet you tell me to call the hot line.
I'm trying to install spore, and I lost my CD key. However, I read the "please enter the registration code found either in your confirmation email, your game manual/product packaging, or game card." I hoped on my email, and sure enough i had a spore email. Sure enough, the email didn't have it, so i started to google stuff. I'm guessing I have to end up either calling or finding the box; this is what i get for getting ready to move. I formatted my computer, so the regedit stuff doesn't work, or it's different for vist 64 bit.
I have logged into https://profile.ea.com/, my account, but i cannot find my games. Is my only option to call?

If you were unable to locate it online at EA's website and you were unable to access from the registry please call support at the 650 number in my signature and ask them to assist you, they will likely be able to verify you and provide your serial number. You can also instead submit a request via help.spore.com.

I have the 32 bit Windows 7, and i tried following the path of the 64 bit windows 7.

There doesn't seem to be a [b]Wow node[/b] but Electronic arts and EA games are there.

When i click those i dont see anything that resembles my registration key. D:

Is it not possible to get our product keys from our spore accounts if we already had the game installed previously. I uninstalled all 3 spore disks to free up my computers memory and when i went to install it again 3 days ago i had lost 2 of the product keys (expansion pack ones) when i followed the advice to check my computers files, that whole run thing which involves looking through the registry editor, the only product key i found was the one i had entered in to install the first spore game the other two were not present. My account shows proof that i have used both of the expansions in the past, so does the account have product key in it? I tried looking at the EA download manager thing as well which prooved to be useless since i had not registered any of the games on it, i thought it would automatically register the games (like steam does for games i get off of it). I purchased a hard cased copy of the game on disks.

Are you sure you're looking in the correct directory? It's Electronic Arts not EA games. In it however there will be one named EA games.

Unless you did a manual uninstall where you went into the registry editor and stripped out the Spore entries they are still present. If you are unable to follow the directions in the original post of this thread I suggest you call support as they can also help you with your serial number.

I manually uninstalled c and c, but I used something called ccleaner(i think)to uninstall core spore and ga, which i need the code for. However, no spore folder appears under electronic arts :( :cry:

After a little more searching, I went under Software/electronic arts/Spore ep1
In the spore ep1 folder (which i'm asuming stands for expansion pack 1 or Ga) there was a file called product key. in the data there were 20 characters. Could this be the code?

Try backing up your save game data and My Spore Creations and uninstall Spore and then reinstall. If at all possible install to the default drive and folder. How do I back up saved games?

I just posted about a similar problem that I had with getting the server to allow updates at different points.

If you have much in the pollination packages, and you don't mind loosing it (much of it will reinstall, it just takes times), try deleting the pollination packages in the Users\appData\roaming\spore directory.

If you don't have a lot of buddies, you really aren't going to loose much you're interested in.

Because of what's on the surface when it hangs, you may not be able to tell that it's hit the "updating content" phase, but it may well have.

Hi, I am just starting to pick Spore back up, and I am attempting to install it on my new laptop. I am looking in the regedit on my old computer with vista on it, but it does not have any of the folders for the key. I have Electronic Arts with the folders EAL, Spore, and Spore_EP1. None of these folders have a registration key. In the SPORE_EP1 there is an item named ProductKey, but the data provided, a 20 figure code, does not work when I attempt it in the installer. I have tried it 3 times, each time double checking for typing errors, and the installer closed, I then tried it 3 more times just to make sure I was not mistyping it.

Is this the appropriate code, or do I need to call and have my old one brought up?

Edit: Meant Electronic Arts folder not the Ea games folder.

There are different folder structures for different O/S, make sure you are looking in the right folder for your O/S. If that doesn't help then yes, call support and ask them to look you up.

I have a problem in this area as well. If you look up Ravenwolfie you will see that I do own Spore as well as Cute & Creepy and Galactic Adventures. I registered all of them when I got them. Spore and Cute & Creepy I was able to download, however I had to use my disc for Galactic Adventures. Of course, the key has gone missing! I looked under my account and games and all I could find was a check box next to Spore. I could find no way to get my key for Galactic Adventures. I checked my email as well and nadda. Is there another way to find my key since looking for the game under my account yielded only a check mark? I would rather not spend hours on hold if I can help it lol.

Well, my opptions are very low right now.. i want a very simple and easy way to do this. Ive downloaded my game before and its even in my apore profile page to prove it. But my dad have to erase everything on my computer because my computer messed up so there is no information about creepy & cute parts pack. I have My codes, My EA account says I have Core spore registered; but EA manager says my codes invalid. but the game installs and plays as if all is just fine. I install the Creepy & cute parts pack and the parts do not show up at all. not one part. My system says they installed just fine.
Now I own both core and part pack (EA manager even has the part pack registered for me) running on a windows 7 system. What I want to know is failure of the part pack to show up, in game, a produce registration problem or a window 7 problem.

Not that it is stress me. but could my inability to activate the registration for core spore in EA manager be because someone has stolen my key or am I being punished for not playing spore for such a long time.

I backed up my CD Keys on to the inside of my cases so a 0.000000000002% chance I miss coped it into the case, but I have high doubt I did.

I have recently had to reinstall my Spore and the expansion packs. I purchased the original disks but for some reason I can not find my registration key to the Spore Creepy and Cute. I looked under the Run, regedit and Spore ERC file but it's not there. I am guessing since I had to delete my Spore and the expansion packs it deleted the registration keys also. I have the books to the other two. How can I find my registration key in order to finish installing my Creepy and Cute?

Hi guys. I have a new Macbook Pro with Spore installed. I have and want to install Galactic Adventures but i don't have the key (lost manual :oops: ). I'm looking on my old WIndows Vista 64 bit (solid copy game) but i don't see a folder called Wow6432node under Hkey_Local_Machine, but it is instead under Software (which is directly under HKey_Local_Machine). What should I do? When i expand Wow6432node it has EA Games, but its not expandable.

For those of you who can't find stuff by poking around in the registry, I'd suggest using a program like LicenseCrawler or Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to get your keys back provided you still have the game in question installed.

You can find LicenseCrawler here: http://www.klinzmann.name/licensecrawler_download.htm
Make sure you download one of the English versions. The site looks a little wonky, but I've used LicenseCrawler in the past multiple times with no problems.

You can find Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder here: http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
Make sure you download the free version. I've only used MJB's Keyfinder once myself, so I can't give you any real info about it except that it's recommended by many geeks.

I lost my key. I have registered, there is no My Games tab. I had a heck of a time trying to change my password (hadn't used the account in forever), called got that straightened out (sort of). I don't want to spend another ungodly amount of time on the phone on hold.

I tried to email EA to get a new registration code or see what they could do, the password that was given to me, doesn't work for that login.

So frustrated, any ideas or am I doomed to be on the phone with them until the zombie apocalypse starts?

i have lost my spore cd key and i just whiped my computer back to the factory settings is there anyway i can find out my key with just my serial number on the game covers???

apoxolis, do you have the manuals? The numbers on those are your key. Key and serial number are the same thing.

Alternatively, since you already have the games registered on your Spore.com page, you might be able to download them through Origins and skip entering the serial number entirely (not sure about this, as I've never used Origins myself). If nothing else, you can call EA's customer service number or use their online chat and the service rep should be able to look up your numbers for you.

2. Find the folder marked “Wow6432Node” and open it.
3. Find the one marked "Software" and open that too. Again, more folders will appear.
4. Find the folder marked "Electronic Arts" in the new folders and open it.
5. Now find the folder marked “EA Games” and open it.
6. Now find the folder marked “SPORE(TM)” and open it.
7. There should be a folder marked “ergc” in there; that will have your registration key.

1. Find the folder that says HKEY _CURRENT_USER. Pop that open by clicking the little plus sign. More folders will appear.
2. Find the one marked "Software" and open that too. Again, more folders will appear.

4. Keep opening all folders in "Electronic Arts" until you come to one marked "spore_dd."
5. Open "spore_dd." Two folders should display. They will be marked "ergc" and "MemberName."
6. There should be a folder marked “ergc” in there; that will have your registration key.

In all cases, the registration key should appear under the data column when you click on ergc.

I’m not sure what the file path is for Vista64 with a downloaded copy. If anyone knows, please post it here and I will update the main post.

@ashyash96 :: Those won't let you open Spore, those are ways to get the registration number for your software.

The windows registry is a place where windows stores special program values (like keys) that are needed when you run the program.

If you need the key to reinstall, you are in the right place. If you are having a problem starting the game, that's a different path.

Excuse me, But I am having troubles..
I lost my code a long time ago, and I followed the advice you said; When I went to login, I had to reset my password, after that it asked me to convert, or make a new account. . . Now on the ORIGIN Page, I click My account and there is no "My Games" Tab. . . Can you help me? :(

I followed the steps, but when I arrived at the "Electronic Arts" Folder, I do not have Spore in it. I believe this is due to uninstalling it before this, so I could re-install? Can someone help me? :(

I seem to have lost my manual for C&C Pack and I have no idea what to do. On my other Spore page "Sonic 859" it says I have C&C but I don't know if that helps or not. Can someone tell me what to do?! :(

If you are trying to reinstall C&C but have lost the code, you may need to contact EA Customer Support and have them recover it. If the icon shows on your Spore profile (as you say it does), that means the code is saved to your account, so EA can recover it.

You could try downloading Origin (http://origin.com/) and see if C&C shows up for download in there, but that will probably not work, although if it does it will save you from contacting EA.

I bought a new computer, and I'm trying to install spore. I had already regestered and have an account and all that on my previous computer. I lost the serial number. I really want to start playing again, but can't. Is there any way to get my number back?
