I think it's time for a new sporemaster.Someone who follows all the rules,but isn't to harsh.So far most of you have suggested ashkelon,and I agree with that.Plz suggest anyone else you think is eligible to join.Once you've finished I'll make a poll.Also we need a plan to make whoever wins a sporemaster.Remember,only you can choose.Plz don't tell anyone else who to vote for or spam.And may the best sporum member win!EDIT:sorry guys I was gone for the night and most of the school day.I'm still looking over who is nominated.Plz don't add any more names.Thank you.NEWER EDIT:Like I said on my reply,I don't have time to go through six pages of names.Have someone make a list of all the people who want to be nominated.

well I would find it more sensible to have trusted employees watch over the forum of their game, instead of just nice people, I don't think a vote for anything is necessary, but hey, I can understand a thread about thinking who would be good for a sporemaster

Sporemasters are not employees of Maxis or EA they are regular people who volunteered for and and Maxis believed would be good for it, they do not get payed and are only here on their own time, no specific working hours.

Sorry guys, moderators aren't chosen based on popular vote. Maxis chooses them when and if they need them and as far as I know, they're not really looking for more. We don't get paid either and we don't work for Maxis. It's purely a volunteer position.

You're welcome to use this thread to discuss aspects of moderation so long as it doesn't get out of hand. I've locked every thread about moderation like this in the past because it turns into a flamewar.

well I guess being a SM would have its perks, but think about it, would you be able to have as much fun anymore? You'd have to keep an eye on all the topics, or whichever you are assigned, you wouldn't be able to roleplay anymore because odds are you need to keep focoused on the forums, I just think that someone who wants to spend most of the time here enjoying themself shouldn't be a Spore Master

I'm kinda flattered that some people thing I would be a decent sporemaster.

On the other hand, I can be a jerk too, and as a lot of people know I am very literal. That means I don't always understand people's humor. Like I was just a serious idiot to Ben Kane, because I totally misunderstood him.

As long as I'm a private "citizen" I have the privileged of being a jerk, sparring with people and not worrying too much what Maxis thinks of me. I mean, I don't want suspended, but I like my friends and my freedom.

Now is time for Haxor to come tell me to "hush" and smack me upside the chops so I really do it.

I generally admire all of you, too. but don't expect me to say it very often.

I could, but they probably would never check this thread. On the other hand, I'm always here, and willing to help, but I think someone more...well-known would be better, like Ashkelon. Even though we had our quarrels, she still tries to remain mature at all times, and is certainly not corrupt.

You can become a SporeMaster by emailing Cactus or something and making the case that you would be a good Sporemaster. There is no other way to become one. Also let this die, this is prooving to the spammers that their little games are working.

Well, I said before that I'm flattered. But even if this would have an effect on how Maxis chose sporemasters, I don't know that I'd be a good choice.

For one thing, I love having the freedom to say what I want, and be where I want. And I tihnk having a really GOOD sense of humor, and being a decent, level-headed and basically friendly person are all required in a sporemaster -- those are qualities you see in BB -- but not so much in me.

I spend a lot of my time away from the internet. I do field agronomy studies, in addition to being with my horses at least 10 hours a day. So i'm pretty unreliable.

But I'm seriously flattered. And this has been fun. Also, I'm glad that Maxis makes the choice and not us, since that keeps the partisanship in line.

Guys, your SM account is different from your regular one. He wouldn't have to change his sig, he would just need an sm sig for his SM account. Didzo does have a sense of humor and I think he would make a great SM, as those everyone who actually knows him.

With an IP address and a time-date stamp, it's possible to trace any address to its source. Even if the user uses an anonymizer or IP masking service. Anonymizers keep logs so they can't be held liable for not providing necessary information during criminal investigations. ISPs are also required to divulge necessary information including access logs and billing addresses.

This is a really good waste of a thread. SporeMasters aren't made by just voting for them, this has been repeated time and time again. We don't need new SMs, what we need is to let them be able to perma ban and allow them more powers to deal with the increasing ammount of spammers. Maxis also needs to put in place a system that prevents any new users from having BlackIce, Black_Ice, Black Ice, BI, bi, ice, MetroPolice, Metro_Police, Metro, Police, MP, mp (and the same deal for any of the other spammers) to be instantly denied. This would make them loose credibility and just be labled off as another wannabe spammer. Good day.

That's pretty much the truth.

I honestly thing the trial account sockpuppets are a huge problem that EA needs to address internally. Like sorry, but they shouldn't be able to post.

I'm dizzy with trying to keep a spreadsheet of who's what and who today....

And yeah, I mean all of them. I, personally like Ice.

But nobody should be doing it, and that includes "nice" people here who take the puppets for a roll every time they want to be nasty or think they've done all the damage they can on a single account.

Sure, some of the problem is spammers, but the whole thing is magnified out of control by the automatic logins with the trial, and the 5 user names on each one. Maintenance nightmare.

I feel a little sick by the whole design.

Oh yeah, they can post, unless it was recently changed.

I know it was changed so only one of the 5 accounts can vote in a poll, but I don't know when that happened.

It really wouldn't be fair to ban a whole family (on a paying account) for one stupid kid.

I think the problem is the download trial accounts. They shouldn't be able to post.

Most of the banned spammers wouldn't be able to keep doing it so heavily if they had to pay $40 for another 5 accounts to spam from.

No, the deauth just disconnects the game from the machine.

The game is still connected to the account.

That's the problem with trying to resell it. You can't disconnect the game from the account.

In this case that's good, since the spammers would get cut off at the account level on the sporum. They could still play the game, which is cool.

I agree that bans should be longer, perhaps, and fewer forgivenesses. The thing is, there are so many "nice" people here running a "mean" alt account, as well as what the overt spammers do.

Actually no, it's not a good idea at all. My account is on trial, and my brother's has Spore and GA. Until they give us the option to make more accounts with 1 game, they shouldn't abolish the trial registration.

And most new people who have the trial feel like buying the core game after they start posting in the forum and when they start seeing all those contests, you know.

Actually no, it's not a good idea at all. My account is on trial, and my brother's has Spore and GA. Until they give us the option to make more accounts with 1 game, they shouldn't abolish the trial registration.

If your brother has Spore, you could log on with one of the 5 ids that came with his game.

There are 5 that are attached to my Spore game, and I could log in with any of them. Have done, when there were problems with the forums.

Ya'll new people realize that Maxis chooses new sporemasters when and where they will, and this has no meaning really, right?

I'm not even really sure why they made it a poll except to support the idea that some people would like someone around to lock threads and stuff at odd times (by USA schedules).

So this whole thing is kind of fun, and I'm flattered, but that's all.

I don't think I'd make an especially good one.

I just like most of the people here, and it's giving me something to do until my leg heals up

AFAIK the alts are not banned in concert.

Yes, the achievements are logged that way, but those are totally separate systems and databases.

I've been able to log in on an alt, even when the default was disabled.

No, you can't unless you have that many base puppet accounts. If one of your accounts has voted, the alts on that account can't vote. I think that changed quite awhile ago.

Each alt still has it's own uprate and downrate on the same creature, but that's a whole different thing than polls on the sporum.

Well, I know they have taken care with the major things, typical threats.

And I can't imagine that any of the REAL black hats are concerned enough to hack the spore site at all, let alone a single poll.

That's kind of like sending the navy seals to steal buckeyes out of the mean neighbor lady's yard.
