Swine flu making a comeback?

http://www.wwnytv.com/news/local/53509852.html

Seems the Swine Flu is doing a Terminator. On CNN they expect 90,000 serious ilnesses in the US alone. I personally am getting scared again. In the spring it was nothing, but now, during Flu season, its gonna be serious. Hopefully the vaccinations can help us. Any opinions or other info on this?

The Swine Flu is just as powerful and as deadly as the regular flu. The media just feels like spinning it out of proportion just to get viewers so people see the adveritsements that come on durring breaks. If a news station get more viewers, it'll get more money from advertisers to keep the station going and give the employees jobs. That's the only reason Swine Flu has gotten so much publicity.

Or you mean 3% of the population have swine flu, and there is a total 97% survival rate? If this were true everyone who got swine flu would die, which is clearly not happening. From what I have heard, swine flu isn't as dangerous as other flu strains, however the reason we are scared of it is it may mutate in a unpredictable way to become more virulent, as we don't know much about it yet.
I meant that 90,000 people that the article predicts could die is 3% of the population of the United States, which is roughly 300 million. I assumed they meant in the condition that everyone in the US got the flu, which would be a 97% survival rate, which is pretty similar to the current survival rate.
http://www.wwnytv.com/news/local/53509852.html

Seems the Swine Flu is doing a Terminator. On CNN they expect 90,000 serious ilnesses in the US alone. I personally am getting scared again. In the spring it was nothing, but now, during Flu season, its gonna be serious. Hopefully the vaccinations can help us. Any opinions or other info on this?
Like others have said, its just like the other flu branches except that pigs (swine) can transfer it, but don't worry about eating ham or bacon, after its been cooked its not going to have the H1N1 virus on it. Probably.

Swine flu making a comeback?

You can't get swine flu from eating pork...

Swine flu is just another bad strain of flu- we get them every few years. However, our bodies have never seen this flu before which is why it's worse... Although the media is definitely making it seem like its worse.

I've had a weak strain of the swine flu, apparently, because they say in New Zealand regular flu isn't circulating at the moment and since I had a flu a few weeks ago it means I probably had the Swine flue variety. It wasn't pleasent, sure, but after a couple of days in bed with a pounding headache it ending up feeling more like a moderate cold...

The native Americans were very respectful to the Earth, they didn't get too far into tech, though the Aztecs, Maya, Inca, and Olmec did some pretty amazing things. Europe people wasted resources and tried to find out ways to kick each others butt. In the end they had superior technology.
Actually the earth is just fine. In the words of someone from jurassic park "life will find a way." Once life has started on a planet, almost nothing can remove it. The earth has had worse mass extinctions than anything humans have dished out several times before.

Something of which we are not to certain of after the endicaranian wiped out much of the first ambulatory life forms.

Something else we don't know of from the Cambrian to the Ordovician.

Gamma ray bursts during the Ordovician. A Major extinction event.

Anoxia and a runaway greenhouse during the end of the devonian. Think of it as a prototype for the permian event. A Major Extinction event.

The Worst of them all, the Permian Triassic extinction even, that may have been caused by either a meteor even larger than the cretaceous asteroid or a magma plume, raising the earth's temperature by an ungodly amount, combined with anoxia, a sharp drop in oxygen levels, vast increases in hydrogen sulfide levels, amongst other things. A major extinction event.

The Triassic extinction event, most likely caused by a large meteor, ended the reign of the crocodillians.

The C-T extinction event, which was largely caused by a meteor, major extinction event.

And the comparatively wussy holocene extinction event. Which is so badly dwarfed by the other four major extinction events that it's really not all that great. A Major extinction event.

Not to sound stuck up but if this happens Humans will probably die out, then this planet will not get intelligence for a while. I love intelligence
