Wishlist for a patch

Don't get me wrong. Galactic Adventures is awesome adding a whole bunch of new features. But, as you all know, it has room for improvement.

First of all, I was kind of hoping the adventures would be longer, because every time I make an adventure, most of the time the first 6 acts are dialogue. All I want to do is tell the story of what is going on, but then I can't add a lot of action. I figure maybe 15 acts should be fine.

As for the planet, yes. I love how you get to change the planet to your own will, but what if you wanted to vary the climate or something or have it take place entirely in space away from a planet. What if there was a "plane" editor. Within the same adventure, you could use multiple planets or even blank space making space stations or indoor scenes a lot easier. One small issue is trying to get perfectly flat terrain. Whenever I make indoor scenes, it always looks crooked because of the curvature of the planet.

We need the flora editor. That's all I have to say on that one.

For vehicles, first of all, why do you slip off when you stand on them? If that didn't happen, we could be creating levels with moving platforms. Or, what would also be cool is that you could drive them. It would allow you to create a demolition derby adventure or a dogfight above a city.

Another thing: Although this has been said many times, I would like to say it again. We should be able to beam down on non-adventure planets. It's much more fun to control the actual captain than the hologram scout. What should happen to the hologram scout? Maybe it will allow you to explore T0 planets without losing health.

For the Captain editor, I feel level 10 is too low. Even raising the maximum to level 12 is just fine, because what if we got a part that we later find out that we don't want. For example, I got the poison blade, but later I found it you can't use it at the same time as the energy knuckles. Shouldn't we be able to sell the part and get a new one instead? Or even better, we should be able to switch between parts while playing the game.

Next of all, the energy shield (3rd zealot part) needs to be changed. Whenever an enemy hits you a few times, you lose WAY too much energy. It prevents you from attacking back which makes your captain a lot weaker. Ironically, I wasn't able to complete a certain adventure at all until I removed that part. With that being said, that part does more harm than good to your captain.

Another thing that must be fixed is the collision detection. Originally in my Grox Civil War adventure, I was going to make the player land on a platform after jumping from space. But every time, he would just fall through it and then you would get stuck. So eventually, I just made him land on the ground which was kind of disappointing.

The test drive for the adventure is also messed up. Sometimes when you have a goals that take place next to buildings, skipping acts can cause you to get stuck inside the building. It doesn't bother that much, but it's annoying and should be fixed.

A minor thing I request is the ability to continue for checkpoints. What if you are at the end of a really long adventure and then you die. You have to start all over from the beginning. Maybe after an act, checkpoints can be placed where you return when you die.

Also, why is 99 the max amount of objects you can interact with in one task (ie kill, collect)? The only max to that should be the complexity meter.

One other thing. Although this does not directly relate to Galactic Adventures, seeing how we can place buildings and roads anywhere, it would be nice if we could do the same in the Space Stage, like within the walls or something.

I was also kind of hoping to see a star system editor of some sort. Then we could choose what the player sees in the sky while on the surface of a planet. Then you could have two suns in the sky or a looming purple gas giant. Maybe the "plane" editor could be much the same as that.

The music is another thing that must be fixed. Don't get me wrong. They sound awesome. My favorites are Space Warriors and The Show. But often times, I find myself reusing these tracks over and over again because there are no other songs that fit the specific adventure I am making. We need to have more varieties of music of the same genre. (the existing ancient kingdom 1 and 2 are an example of what I'm talking about) Even better would be a full-fledged music editor that is more complex than the anthem editor. Then we could truly express creativity and share the songs we make. Another idea is that we could adjust the tempo of the existing tracks to fit the mood.

One amazing addition would be a cutscene creator. They could take place after you complete a certain act and text pops up at the end. Along with that, we need more emotions for the "Talk to" goals such as "evil smirk", "confused", "questioning", "friendly", "emotionless", or "serious". This would give more variety and personality to the characters. We should also have different losing texts for the different acts. Like what if you stopped the bad guys, but accidently fell into a pit of lava? It would be bewildering to see that you failed to stop the criminals when you already did.

Another small thing, we should be able to preview the introduction cutscene and the ending one. Sometimes, when starting the adventure in a space station and the camera circles around, the walls don't load and the graphics look broken. We should have control over what these two cutscenes look like as well as choose the music for them.

The last thing I request is that we should be able to manually remove adventures while playing the Space Stage. For example, an adventure appeared on a pink spice planet. I really wanted the pink spice, but now I can't colonize it because there is an adventure there. Although I have noticed over time they eventually disappear if left alone, we should be able to manually remove them without removing them from the game.

There are several things I disagree with here. Many of the are too ambitious. The edit to Zealot #3 I do not agree with. That armor is made for shamans, not warriors. Everyone tends to be complete idiots and think that because it does more damage, warrior "PWNS" shaman. Not true. Shaman parts allow the usage of trader and zealot parts without negative effects to your combat. They also can cause a perpetual stun when used right. Shaman weapons are quite simply, above idiots who can barely figure out how to use the simple warrior attacks. I suspect you are one of the aforementioned people.

Agreed. Or, if not, then some other sort of way to play with the complexity meter.
Agreed again. With creative use, one can make a planet with seemingly different biospheres, but not always. For example, the ground level "vegetation" applies to the whole planet. I've wanted to create a planet with, say, ice rocks in one part, and flowers in another part. This is currently not possible. Also, I agree about flat terrain, howver, I also understand why it isn't truly flat. It's kind of annoying though, even though physically it makes sense... the fact is, the planets aren't large enough to support "true flat". Speaking of which, I hate "True Flat" as a Terra option, because it doesn't work quite right. It works on some weird formula based on the surrounding elevation, which is terrible. There are several more Terra Mode tools I can think of that would make planet building sooo much better.
We need the flora editor. That's all I have to say on that one.
I don't really care that much, to be honest, because we can build plants in Creature or Building editors.... but yeah, it definitely wouldn't be bad. I wouldn't oppose such an Editor, but it's also not on the top of my list.
For vehicles, first of all, why do you slip off when you stand on them? If that didn't happen, we could be creating levels with moving platforms. Or, what would also be cool is that you could drive them. It would allow you to create a demolition derby adventure or a dogfight above a city.
Indeed. I don't necessarily need to drive vehicles, honestly, because to be honest, figuring out the gameplay physics for that sort of thing is brutally tough, especially when there are so many ways to "propel" a vehicle in-game. Treads, jet boosters, legs, etc... it would require a bit of time for them to figure that all out... however, it WOULD be nice.
Another thing: Although this has been said many times, I would like to say it again. We should be able to beam down on non-adventure planets. It's much more fun to control the actual captain than the hologram scout. What should happen to the hologram scout? Maybe it will allow you to explore T0 planets without losing health.
Hmm, yeah, I guess I can get this. I just still personally don't see the point. Howver, I would welcome such a feature. I just think it ranks low on my list... very low.
Agreed. We should be able to "trade in" parts we don't want, or they should AT LEAST warn us that buying Poison Blade will nullify Energy Knuckles, for example. Otherwise, we are wasting time on buying contrary parts.
I don't agree with this really because I think, like any video game, there has to be limitations. It forces us to be strategical and to choose the appropriate gear for our captains. Everything has its failings.. however, as it stands, physical armor seems way more elite, and I think Maxis should at least make some sort of consistent system for this stuff.
Another thing that must be fixed is the collision detection. Originally in my Grox Civil War adventure, I was going to make the player land on a platform after jumping from space. But every time, he would just fall through it and then you would get stuck. So eventually, I just made him land on the ground which was kind of disappointing.
Agreed. Serious testing of adventures can help prevent these sort of things, but still, what happens on your computer might not be the same as another player. Sometimes things get screwed up, and we may never know until some jackspore gives us a thumbs down.
The test drive for the adventure is also messed up. Sometimes when you have a goals that take place next to buildings, skipping acts can cause you to get stuck inside the building. It doesn't bother that much, but it's annoying and should be fixed.
I haven't yet experienced that, but I'd encountered many Test Drive flaws. However, I just try to edit my adventure to fix it.
A minor thing I request is the ability to continue for checkpoints. What if you are at the end of a really long adventure and then you die. You have to start all over from the beginning. Maybe after an act, checkpoints can be placed where you return when you die.
Checkpoints are an exceptionally good idea. I've actually played on adventure where it SEEMED like there were checkpoints (Foto's Donkey Kong), but it wasn't real. I think we should also be able to save mid-mission and finish later, like most video games. Back to Foto's adventure... I never finished it because I am a video game mongoloid, but really, we need check points. It was weird. It was like I could die 2-3 times each turn before actually failing the mission... how was that accomplished? I'd love to know the secret to multiple deaths w.o failing a mission.
Also, why is 99 the max amount of objects you can interact with in one task (ie kill, collect)? The only max to that should be the complexity meter.
Not exactly sure what you mean, but what bugs me is that I can't have duplicate goals. More specifically, I can't have a setup like this:

1.) Talk to Jo Jo Dancer
2.) Find a fruit
3.) Talk to Jo Jo Dancer

It won't allow you to use multiple instances in one act, even though that would REALLY save me some time and acts. That is lame, imo. Heck, I should have the ability to make all three goals in one act involve talking to the same NPC if I wanted. I am mad that I can't do that. It makes no sense to me.
One other thing. Although this does not directly relate to Galactic Adventures, seeing how we can place buildings and roads anywhere, it would be nice if we could do the same in the Space Stage, like within the walls or something.
Ehhh, not sure what you mean exactly, but I guess I do. Maybe a "Colony Editor" could solve that. So in that sense I get it...
I was also kind of hoping to see a star system editor of some sort. Then we could choose what the player sees in the sky while on the surface of a planet. Then you could have two suns in the sky or a looming purple gas giant. Maybe the "plane" editor could be much the same as that.
Couldn't agree more.
I think they'll eventually release more music, but I also agree... why not let us make it? That is the one thing Maxis has NEVER let us share, the anthems. I know that most people would make garbage, but still... some of us have a good ear. We could make great themes, and I think that over time, the same ol same ol songs will become even more annoying. I already know most of them, and I'd like them on CD actually, but really... I want us to be able to create our own. What is holding that back? Why can't we share our "tunes"?
One amazing addition would be a cutscene creator. They could take place after you complete a certain act and text pops up at the end. Along with that, we need more emotions for the "Talk to" goals such as "evil smirk", "confused", "questioning", "friendly", "emotionless", or "serious". This would give more variety and personality to the characters. We should also have different losing texts for the different acts. Like what if you stopped the bad guys, but accidently fell into a pit of lava? It would be bewildering to see that you failed to stop the criminals when you already did.
Agreed agreed agreed. I don't know much about programming, but I imagine it could be done without too much hassle.
Another small thing, we should be able to preview the introduction cutscene and the ending one. Sometimes, when starting the adventure in a space station and the camera circles around, the walls don't load and the graphics look broken. We should have control over what these two cutscenes look like as well as choose the music for them.
Agreed again. There should be more choice. If I want my adventure to end on a sour note, I don't want the freakin captain dancing to some happy music. It's too limiting.... Fact is, sometimes adventures are finished, but I want the ending to be sad or something. This type of thing should be possible.
The last thing I request is that we should be able to manually remove adventures while playing the Space Stage.
Way back when GA was anounced I said I would love to see a cut scene editor in here similar to the one in the Movies. Totaly agree with that.
I also agree we need the flora editor what ever happened to this coming out soon after Spore's release in a patch?
I agree that 10 parts in the editor is too low as well. Heck I thought the limit was 12.
I agree we should be able to ride vehicles. In an old video I watched they wanted to have creatures visible in the vehicles for civ stage.
Finally, "Krayfishkarl wrote:
Another thing: Although this has been said many times, I would like to say it again. We should be able to beam down on non-adventure planets. It's much more fun to control the actual captain than the hologram scout. What should happen to the hologram scout? Maybe it will allow you to explore T0 planets without losing health."
This is probably the closest we'll ever get to this I don't think we'll ever be able to just beam down to any planet it may just be too dificult to program.

As I said above, I don't personally care about that feature, BUT, I would not oppose it. Furthermore, I think it would be much more difficult to program the wide variety of vehicles movements in contrast to beaming onto non-adventure planets. IMHO, I would bet that they come up with a "beam down to normal planets" feature before they create a "pilot a vehicle" feature.
