its a good game! yes I still enjoy playing it . but its losing my interest fast . I dont need to dump on the guys who built the game the did what they could with the time they were given Im sure. but after playing threw the game several times I hve to say thatfor the most part I feel this is a game for children. I am nearly 30 and was hoping this game would have retained my attentin for more then a week before collectng dust on the shelf but ohwell I sent just asmuch on pizza ad beer the week before .

over all I dont expect any issues here t be fixed without EA sucking dry the customer for every part they want.Example would be 1- 3 expansions each themselves worth asmuch as a game on there own.

all those fancy emote tools in the editor would have been nice to use in creature stag but nope.

I could go on and on but whats the point they got my money now .

oVER ALL I think spore will not be remembered by many as they game it hould have been. When the dust settles and the lights are out its just another game that fell short of greaness.

I will nt buy the expansion if they come out with one. if they cant be bothered to send it out in a ptach ater I waited for 3 years to be disapointed I dont want it .

It just seems to me that there is some wierd inverse system with corporations.

Quality of products is directly inverse of the company's size.

Google excluded from this formula its always true (that I know of). AOL, Walmart, Microsoft, and any massive bank are good examples . Oh HP, Dell, are good examples. The companies expand quickly with quality and seemingly give up once they have full control of the market.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: This game IS everything they said it would be.... but even then, it's just not going to be for everyone.

Look at the Sims. Game that sells a bazillionty copies, has a bazillionty expansions. So many fans.

Yet even with that game..... there are going to be those that JUST DONT LIKE IT.

Maxis' games arent for everyone. They're usually very, very good..... but it takes a certain type of player to really "get" the game in question.

Perfect example: I've seen people, on this board and everywhere else, comparing the Tribal stage to things like C&C3, or SupCom. Or similar comparisons for other stages. Such a comparison however.... MAKES NO SENSE. The game isnt MEANT to be anything like those. Heck, in the Tribal stage, you can play through that section without killing ANYTHING if you so desire. Seems a bit different from most RTS games if you ask me.

Much of the point of the game is the evolutionary process, and seeing the various ways in which the decisions you make affect the later stages of evolution, and affect how you do things. That's the basic idea. Not tank spamming or some nonsense. Not "pwnage" or super advanced tactical espionage.

I think Will Wright describes Maxis games perfectly when he calls them "software toys".

For those of us that really DO get it, the game is excellent. Absolutely excellent. I myself have been a fan of Maxis since the very first SimCity, which I originally played on the SNES (my computer at the time would have EXPLODED if I'd tried to run the PC version....). I've bought nearly everything they've made since then, and loved it all.

And yes: I am a hardcore gamer. Not one of those "casual" types. Im 27, and I've been gaming my entire life. I have all current consoles, most of the old ones..... including even a working Atari 2600 or NES..... which still get used by me alot...... Im big into fighting games and competition, and I love shmups and Roguelikes.... 2 genres that most people hear about and go "what the heck is that?". So yeah.... I know what Im talking about, coming from that direction.


I personally think you might just be missing the point of the game, or perhaps just plain misunderstood what it was supposed to be. Or.... maybe it's just not for you. Entirely possible. Nothing wrong with that.


I say though, give it more of a chance than you have.... really MESS with it. Explore everything about it. Play on Hard. Create different species in different ways and see where each ends up.

Couldn't have said it better. Yes it won't hold hard core gamers interest unless they are interested in some of the creators etc as well but name another game where I can say my 5 year old can get something out of it, my wife, an avid computer game hater enjoys it and so do I. I am also in my late 30's and having run through it several times still enjoy it. Online play - Lets let people interact with each other [i]in[/i] the game. I think this would be the most important addition because then people wouldn't get bored with the aspects of single player systems.

More creature types - Why not stay IN the primordial pool and create an aquatic empire? Atlantis ring a bell to anyone? Think of the possibilities of getting to the space age and having to develop a planet with high atmospheric levels to maintain the sea water for your colonies!

How about enhanced Tribal and Civ stage - I thought they were a little too short for my taste, coming from the Command and Conquer: Red Alert (1, you know kids, with counterstrike and aftermath) I liked that strategy portion of the game and I know a lot of people wouldn't mind its addition.

i did catch the toy phrases of Will Wright and his pleas for imagination and how the promoteam was suspiciously most of the time showing creators and creations while more reluctant to show more of the gameplay and it's principles. they probably know it themselves for sure and for marketing reasons they mostly wanted to show what is good about this concept called 'Spore' to avoid the parts they -probably- know are underdeveloped.
i don't know which war has raged in the developer studio for 3 years but it looks like at the end they had to rush all kinds of things together in the marketing illusion 'for all ages and kinds of gamers' also known as the 'KISS' principle: keep it stupid and simple to reach a wide market. meanwhile you'd be amazed how well a 10 year old is able to play complicated games ... unless you never give him/her a challenge of course.

Will Wright is right: the end result is a toy. one to dress things up but even for those with vivid imagination there are almost no tools to make it meaningfull and realistic enough to call it at least a game, a toy to admire and to try things out but hardly complex enough to keep your attention and interest going. my bad if i expected at least mediocre gameplay to measure up to my fascination for the creations and potential possibilities (which looking back mostly could have been).

i don't know where exactly they decided to cross breed evolutionary aspects with 'a taste to please everyone' but the result are underdeveloped minigames which can be fun to play despite of overall simplicity at some free moment but which are probably better sold individually at only a fraction of the total package price and then there's the most extensive part. the space age was probably some unfinished project lying on some shelf threatened to be dismissed. so why not put that in to and call it the next generation of evolution? i doubt there was much testing done by different kinds of regular gamers to rectify a LOT or even dismiss whole ideas throughout every stage.

I for one am disappointed with spore I think that with a few minor changes spore could have had a much more dynamic game play instead it seems spore thrives on repetition, it sorta seems like Maxis tried to make it more like a single player MMO to me.
