A: Yes, actually, both scenarios described above can be implemented depending on what you want! In fact there are a few ways to do this. Here are some examples:

Set a goal for a captain to pick up a handheld item, and a goal to give the item to an NPC.
Set the act to be completed after these 2 goals, and set the behavior of the NPC in the following act to speak to the creature with the text you input. This text can be crucial info on mission completion.

You could achieve the second scenario by having the behavior of the NPC be to tell you that info when you have a talk to goal with it, without any gifts involved.

There are also other ways you could also achieve these situations, for example using the advanced AI conditional behaviors to set the NPC to talk to you only when holding the gem/treasure, but not to pick it up on its own, so your captain must deliver it to retrieve the info.

[b]Q: I've heard rumor that you will be able to 'ride' other creatures in GA. Is this true? [/b]
A: No. The best way to achieve a similar illusion is to use a creature that looks like 2 creatures, one mounted on the other.

[b]Q: Will I be able to create a complex maze or will the complexity meter limitations prevent this? [/b]
A: I've seen a number of cool complex mazes. I'll try to get more info on the current tuning of complexity and post more.

And if so, will you actually 'ride' on them in the traditional sense (straddling a horse, for example)... or is it more like with moving vehicles and platforms, where you simply jump onto a flat surface (such as on creature's back) and then 'ride' in a standing position?

4) And last, I am trying to get a bit of a handle on the complexity limits issue. I've heard the general rule of thumb limits of '10 creature species' & 'c. 100 total creations' per GA Adventure thrown around as rough estimates on how much you can add to a planet/adventure before maxing out on complexity. So, if one of my 'acts' involves a maze... how much is that likely to impact/limit the complexity that I will have remaining & available for use in fleshing out the rest of my GA 'world'? The individual wall sections used in constructing the maze will be very low complexity per... but it will require numerous wall pieces in order to complete the setting. If the over-all complexity of the completed maze is similar to (or only slightly greater than) the max total complexity that one single building in Spore's building editor might have... should I still be 'ok' (still able to add c. 10-15 other buildings involved in other acts--with one or two of those being 'complex' buildings, along with at least 10-15 smaller 'props' & 'keys', prob one actual vehicle, and c. 30 total creatures)? Or will complexity become an issue simply due to the maze using multiple 'pieces'? I guess what I am really asking is: Is it the [b]number[/b] of 'pieces' used, or the [b]sum of the complexity[/b] of all those individual pieces, that will determine how much complexity a maze eats up?

I have tried to read through everything I can find regarding what can and can not be done in GA (the interview thread has been esp helpful)... but still needed a bit of clarification on the above questions. I would like to try to avoid building anything into my storyboards that would be impossible to do during an adventure. And if the maze is going to take a big bite out of my allotted complexity, then I would like to know up front so that I can maybe just cut out an act or two from my adventure in order to compensate. I had suspected that riding on creatures would be too complicated to implement, given the potential variety of sizes and shapes of player created creatures and captains... but some posters on the sporums had claimed that feature was going to be included. Glad to see the misinfo being cleared up.

Will be curious to hear just how mazes may impact the complexity limits. Each wall piece is very, very low in complexity... but it can be necessary to use quite a lot of them in order to construct any semblance of a reasonably challenging maze. And it does suck that certain countries/provinces are excluded, but I don't think that's the fault of Maxis. It more likely has to do with the laws in your own respective state/province/country/continent. Nobody at Maxis is sitting in front of a world atlas and saying, "Hmmm, Quebec? Nope. Europe? Sorry." lol Hopefully future contests can somehow find a way around that though, because there are incredibly talented people all over the world. Even within the boundaries of the United States, there are often contests like these in which residents of certain states are excluded due to their laws.

My question, and I think it's fairly important, is this:

Does our story and the corresponding storyboards require that it follow the format of Adventure Creator? For example, do I have to indicate every little trigger/key/event? That's an amazing-looking storyboard! I could say it's way better then my submission, but that would be self-degrading. Besides, were all in this together, right? (I'm presuming all the diologs and stuff's on the bottom, correct?) I'm thinking of posting mine up here tommorow, that way MaxisManatee(is there such a user?) will have my submission by the time it's posted, thus eliminating the chance for stolen work. Mine looks somewhat like something you would see out of MS Paint, but what it lacks in "scenic lighting" and "overwhelming backdrops", it makes up with charm and wit! There is a button near the bottom of the page that allows you to import sporepedia images from off of your pc files into the comics program. Unfortunately, I found that if/when you resize those images, they tend to pix & blur badly (not to mention you only get the image from one angle). If there is another/different way to add customized images of your creations using that program, I totally missed it. So I ended up just photoshopping together my own image captures of my Spore creations.

Phew! Finally got everything completed, and my entry has been submitted to Maxis. That was a lot more work that I thought it was going to be! But I am rather pleased with the end results. It makes me really look forward to the release of GA... as when I put together some of my creations into the appropriate environs, it began to look like a very fun planet to explore. And I can't wait to see just what all we can do (in terms of new features and ability to fine tune), and how far we will be able to push the limits of the new programs.

Can I use content created by other users. There's a lot of creatures that would be perfect in my story but if I can't use them, I'd just have to do a stick figure sort of thing for much of it.

At one point I'll essentially save a princess (cliche much?). After finding her, can she follow me, do I have to follow her, can she run, can she grab on to the captain and they could both fly away via jetpack or something, and could a give her an item that ends up teleporting only her to a safe place?

Can I establish a time limit for an entire adventure as well as certain parts of the adventure?

Can I ride in and on top of vehicles? (at one point i plan to take a train to a destination and then jump out/off)

I had hoped to see others share some of their work on this thread... but so far it seems everyone is being a bit secretive. Maybe after the deadline is passed, and there is less threat of 'copy cats'? I was just reading this thread a little to see what people had come up with, and I gotta say I am extremely impressed with kraken's work here. I've seen the creations he's been making for the Evynwire Scroll Quest adventure and that alone had me hooked; wanting to play the mission.

So my guess is that it is more likely a case of Maxis waiting until everything is settled, legally, before they make a public announcement in regards to who the confirmed winners are. I wouldn't think they would still be trying to decide, unless they ended up being absolutely swamped with thousands of Storyboard entries to weed through. I could be wrong though. (at least on the front page) (I wondered about this too) I think they're just going to upload the winning adventure on one of the Maxiod's accounts if they didn't ship them with the expansion. It's also Canada Day here... so double celebration for me today.

I just tried the game, haven't finished it yet, it looks much better than anything I can manage myself. I will definitely tried it again later on, after I finish my cake.

Also Congrats to KrakenMK. I really like your creations (I'm a subscriber of your creation list). I also used your "Fantail Dove" in my first adventure game, I hope you won't mind.
