404 with Static Data "Paint Icon"

The static data section of the API quick reference sheets ([url]http://www.spore.com/comm/samples[/url]) has this printed:

Paint Icon:
Using the filename for a part with a given id, you can retrieve it's icon.
For paint with id 0x18890fd2, filename is "BE_zany_37" The URL is:
[url]http://www.spore.com/data/paints/thumbs/BE_zany_37.png[/url]

However, when I try to access that resource, I get a 404.

Has the URL for this data changed?

Async Spore Python API

For those that prefer to do their network code asynchronously (and in Python), I've started up a small project on Launchpad.net that ports the regular Python Spore API to use Twisted:

The synchronous/blocking Python API is actually included in the source tree of the async one (in txspore.original). As much of the sync Python API is being used as possible, with some references in different modules for namespace convenience.

The work that is up right now is from one night of hacking; I should have some time in the coming week or two to finish it up. However, anyone familiar with Twisted and the Twisted coding style is more than welcome to contribute; just create a branch on launchpad and submit it for review when you're ready.

As for using it, if you're familiar with deferreds and callbacks, you'll have no problem. If you're interested in learning more about Twisted, be sure to check the project site out ([url]http://twistedmatrix.com/[/url]).

I'll post an update when the API is complete.

API request(s) - Creature part checker

Hi there Smart guys, I'm not a developer , I'm just a creator.

I was wondering if there's an API that can do just this:

Load up creature by putting in the assets ID number.

And then that the API translates this into a visual system in which you can see (with the thumbnails)
what and how many Parts are used.

I've seen this in the documentation:

So I think someone with the skills & brains could make such a little app ?

It just would be a cool thing to simply check more details about a creature, what parts are used in it, an show it visually rather then in code.

So is there already an API out there that can do this? or is some smart person already making this?

The being smart end with Idea's only concerning myself, cause I have no clue how to program, and I rather come up with an idea and let the smart department figure out how to make it.

Javascript API?

Could a developer / volunteer please create a javascript method of processing these RSS feeds? I'm pretty experienced with Javascript, but have no clue how to process XML documents that aren't local. Creating this would help people who don't have flash, and don't want to download Mathmatica, PHP, etc. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Open Request to Developers - Sig Widgets

I have a suggestion for some simple API tools that would make a lot of sporumers very happy.
The basic idea is for small widgets that can be embedded in signatures showing stats from the API. These would update dynamically, so that the user would not have to change things manually often, if at all. I am not a coder by any stretch of the means, so I have no idea how hard these would be. However, I would imagine they would be fairly simple.

1. Creation counter
Gives a count of the user's shared creations in a line of text, formatted like "[user] has [number] creations" or something catchy. Would also work for sporecasts (or have an alternate sporecast version). That would probably look something like "[Scast name] now contains [number] creations and counting!" You might guess this is important to me, as I do this manually in my sig now. It's a pain to do manually, believe me.

2. Latest creation
Shows the small .png of the user's latest creation, with the picture as a clickable link to the creation's sporepedia card. Bonus points for if it has the user's 'pedia in the background, instead of the "new" list. I know the current widget does something like this, but it is large and bulky. Simplicity would be the goal here. [url]www.sporebadges.com[/url]

3. Complete signature package
In a small decorative box, shows a) the user's chosen signature b) the latest creation and c) the creation counter. Each section of this links to the user's spore page, the latest creation's card, and the "Show all by User" sporepedia sort (or possibly the user's Quality Spore profile), respectively.

Now, the webpage is [i]complete[/i]. That means there are no bugs and it has all basic things I wanted to add. Creation search, creature details, comparison of achievements, search add-on (see below)... But I want to add more features, so I'm looking for good ideas.

Since yesterday (08/02/09), you can install the Sporepedia Search Add-on in your browser. With this add-on, you can search for creations, users or Sporecasts directly on your browser. You can search any word, the name of a user, the ID number of a creation, or even an URL. URLs searching is very useful. For example, you are surfing the Internet, and you find an image of a creature of the Sporepedia. It's only an image, you don't know who made that creature, his rating, his description, his singing ability... whatever. Then, you just drag the image to the search field of your browser, and you will see all data of that creature.

There are two versions of this add-on. One redirects to Spore.com, if you want to see the results always in the original Sporepedia. The other shows a list of results on Sporistics, although you have the option to go to Spore.com.

This add-on uses OpenSearch (supported in IE 7 or higher and Firefox 2 or higher), but you can install it on other browsers. Go to '[url=http://sporistics.atomicday.net/?p=searchinfo]More Info[/url]' page for instructions about installation and use.

3D model viewing API??

Is there an API where you can see the full 3D model of a creature, UFO, etc without the full version of Spore?

I'm Subscribed to almost 18 sporecast and my Spore Program wont download the sporecasts onto the game. And also I have a Windows 7 comp. and I dont have the option, when I right click, "Save to desktop". I have "save Picture to desktop" tho.

Spore Badges update

[url=http://sporebadges.com]Spore Badges[/url] can now create an automatically-updating image of your profile information. It will show your avatar, tagline, join date, number of creations and achievements, your latest creation, and your latest achievement.

Examples:

More profile information may be added to these badges as it becomes available through the Spore API (for example, there is currently no apparent way to find a user's SporePoints).

Known issues:
-- If you have an animated avatar, the badge will only show the first frame.
-- The total achievement count only includes valid achievements available in the Spore API achievements.xml file. This does not count the GA achievements or any hidden achievements.
-- Profile badges and creation badges will only update once a day. This is not a bug, but a feature to improve loading time. It may be improved in the future to update whenever something changes.
-- Realy long taglines may be cut off. Let me know if this happens to you and I'll fix it. I don't think spore.com allows very long taglines though, so this might not be an issue.
