MaxisKane wrote:Hi Hindsight89, This patch will be mainly focused on fixing the critical bugs some users are seeing. We'll post a full list of fixes when the patch is released. As Lucy said in this thread, http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/2897.page we will be releasing the ability to add multiple Screen Names to a Spore Online Account on our website very soon but that new feature will be released outside of this patch once it's fully tested. We will continue to look at issues people are seeing and are trying to respond as fast as we can. -MaxisKane
That's good, however, my original question was not answered. I want to know if the issue of both the DRM (SecuROM) and the limited installs will be solved (as in, removing both). Please, don't insult my intelligence saying that the extra installs will help with either of these problems. And please don't insult me by giving the stock answer that "SecuROM and the three limit install are to prevent the game from being pirated." At this point, it's common knowledge that they aren't. If anything, you could simply reply that at this moment, you have no information regarding either topic, and that you will submit my questions to the EA technical people in order to find out more. Thank you MKane, but this just isn't enough.

Because while I have not expierenced any technical problems with Spore, sooner of later (right around the release of Starcraft II) I will undoubtedly be upgrading the humming monolith that is sitting right next to me.
And this is what we're trying to show. Thank you Dragonseye.

Just because a limitation exists, does not mean that it's going to ruin your fun.
I have Spore installed on my Laptop and Desktop right now. So far both work great, and I havn't had a problem with the DRM yet. If I have a catastrophic breakdown of a computer or a reformat(Which I don't plan on), I can just call them if I need to reinstall it. People have phones these days, right? And EA isn't going out of business anytime soon, right?
But I don't plan to have those kind of computer catastrophes to happen in the first place.
I'm sure the DRM is mostly implemented not only to make pirating harder, but also to make sharing among friends(As in, neighbors, school buddies, best friend down the street) harder. But honestly, the DRM hasn't done anything to me yet, and if I keep following what I'm doing, it shouldn't bother me for a long time to come(By which then the DRM might even be removed).
Yes the DRM sounds restrictive. But is it 100% stopping you from playing Spore? No. The people complaining just don't want to have to interact with people in order to install the game on 27 computers or are just a clutz after their computer reformatted itself for the 12th time this week.
Why not do what the creatures in Spore do? Adapt.
This made me LoL.
Have you not read any of the complaints? The DRM resets and you have to reinstall (using one of your installs) after a change of hardware...reformatting...ANYTHING that will change your PC. So it's not necessarily that we want to load it on 148 million computers, it's that if we have to upgrade our computers, we cant install it after 3 upgrades to our components.
And the EA "help" line is not toll free, like most. They charge by the minute, long distance.

I feel like I'm RocketGirl (though I'm a guy) and continuing to pester EA with this petition.
Another bump for the sake of quelling Spode's wrath!

Whose problem is it, if not EA's? "Maxis" is nothing but a brand name now. EA is the one who pushed the game out the door without sufficient testing (like they do with all of their PC games). It's entirely EA's problem.
I htink he's more pointing to the fact that EA didn't partake in the actual creation of the game, just the testing (probably limited with the SPORE that was produced), advertising, marketing, packaging and shipping, as well as maintaining the servers, of course.
Maxis' people are the ones that created the game...coded it. However, all these glitches and the fact that it did a 180 should have been caught in the testing phases.

Hun, I would GLADLY buy this expansion, if the original game weren't full of so many holes. EA and Maxis should be trying to FIX the problems in the original (AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER) rather than putting out an expansion.
THEY'RE RELEASING A PATCH SOON!
They said they would, but they also said that they were upping the limit to 5 accounts.. they have not done that. And theres speculation that it will only be good for new registrations...
Not to mention I'm not only talking of game play fixes. I'm talking about protecting user content form being stolen by other players. REMOVING THE DRM WHICH HAS NOW CAUSE ANOTHER GAME THAT I DOWNLOADED ONLINE TO NO LONGER WORK! I had to go through a 3 hour process to REINSTALL the game. How do I know that it was SecuROM? Because I've been playing this game for FOUR years and NEVER had a problem with it. Yes, it is an MMO, and we had a major patch. I finally got done patch and I couldn't OPEN THE GAME.
So yeah, that "patch" they're releasing, unless it includes the removal of SecuROM/DRM and improves the game, no parts pack for me...

Those are the cases so far. They're asking for any help from any and all players to gather evidence.
I believe it broke 1 million for illegal DLs, only other software(s) that have been DL'd more are Photoshop and The Sims.
