Removing decorations works for me too, and I'm very happy about that.
But that's still now how the game is supposed to be played. Hopefully the next patch will fix this problem for good, and I have faith that it will.

Just changed soundcard and deleted my saves.
Anyone using a soundblaster should try removing it, and use the motherboard embeded. (and probably delete saved games)

Please feedback if anyone try

I've been using my onboard soundcard, and I believe it's the same one you have. I still have the problem. : /

Just in case it helps, I've been playing on Normal difficulty, and my cities were primarily military, except for one economic one.
I have killed an Epic creature before (ironically it was one of my own creations), but I didnt receive an achievement for it. I did die just as the epic creature died, so maybe that has something to do with it.
You cant unlock those editors until you've actually played in each of the stages you use them in. For example, you can use the Building Editor once you've reached the Civilization Stage in your game, and the UFO editor becomes available once you enter the Space Stage.

So just keep playing and you'll get those editors soon enough.
I agree that the Space Stage is far too hostile.

The very first empire I ran into were constantly demanding money from me, threatening to war with me if I didnt pay up. Eventually they decided to war with me anyway, and ever since then I've been attacked by their ships just about every 10 minutes.
What's worse is my planet is also raided by pirates almost every 15 minutes or so, AND I'm constantly having to deal with disasters in my ally's territory.
As of now, I'm technologically inferior to my hostile enemy, and I dont have the means to destroy them. I've tried gaining more spice so I can buy powerful weapons or even some terraforming tools so I can turn their colonies into T0 planets, but I'm always having to use that spice to repair my damaged buildings on my homeworld.

I dont think it's too much to ask for the hostility to be toned down a bit. It would eliminate much of the unecessary stress that comes with playing in the Space Stage
I've been having this problem for 3 days now.

Oddly enough, I didnt have the same exact problem during my first day in the Space Stage. Instead, my Spore game would minimize, and I would be back at my desktop. But I could just click the Spore tab on my taskbar to resume my game when this happened.
It wasnt until yesterday when my whole game started shutting down completely. It did so in the same manner described by practically everyone here: I'd get attacked by pirates or by an enemy of mine, so I'd go to defend my homeworld. Then once I've defeated the enemy ships, I'd try leaving the planet's atmosphere and the game would crash.

I've tried several of the "temporary fixes", including going into Windowed Mode, getting rid of all my turrets, and not picking up the money that falls from destroyed enemy ships. Sometimes it worked, other times it didnt. But now the game is crashing even if I go to my homeworld just to visit.

This problem needs to be fixed soon, because I've barely been able to do much of anything in my galaxy. It didnt take very long for this crash to begin happening, so I havent been able to expand as much as I'd wanted to. I'm sure Maxis/EA knows this problem exists and they're working to fix it, but I really hope they fix it soon.
