You don't state what difficulty you are playing at but on normal I find all you have to do is grab a couple of spice mines at the beginning and then simply create vehicles as soon as you can and get them attacking. Using the heal area ability can really help. Upgrade your city when you can but keep churning out those vehicles so at least a few are attacking at all times.
While in the creature stage getting a nest next to the coast before you go to tribal means you have access to a port city in civ stage (as well as fishing capabilities in tribal). Boats are often hardier than land vehicles which can be an advantage and I normally find they are worth the extra 500 spice.
Once you have claimed the initial continent don't be shy about blitzing your current vehicles, switching to boats and take over another port city on another continent. Once that is done you can rebuild your land forces to take out that continent, possibly blitzing your boat fleet.
Edit: After tribe I find offense is far better than defence. Stick a turrent or two on your city when you can and use boats to counter enemy boats if you can't reach them. I also find high attack better than speed. My priority is attack, health then speed.

Normally I find its simpler to just avoid them. You get hit a few times reaching the planet but then you move faster than they do. Simply fly to the colony, drop a couple of bombs, run and fly around the planet and repeat. simply don't stay still over the enemy colonies.

I've found that when the WLAN fails to maintain a connection I sometimes get an svchost background process that sends the CPU to 100% in Vista. Don't really view it as a Spore problem though but one of my PC and WLAN connection. (Need better WLAN signal or play spore while not connected).

Welcome back. Although I live in Germany I am English so I guess I have a fairly unique perspective in WW2 feelings. I for one don't think "historical" references should constitute an offence and I am sure that the majority of people, even germans agree. But I do agree with the ability to ban things. Maybe a system is needed where things that are reported are banned only after 5 people report them or some such. Then again who knows how things currently work.

And yet I enjoy this "toy". My 5 year old daughter loves this "toy"... Even my wife who hates computer games loves this "toy"...
Nuff said.

I wouldn't go so far as to punish the person making sporn. Said party may not have intended said sporn to be released to another person. It could have been for his own amusement.
Sporn is not supposed to be in the game. Unfortunately in the environment we live, without consequence people will not take any notice. It's not like they get banned permanently.
I know when the creature creator came out there was a request for a "mature content" flag for creatures. This would have solved this issue to a degree but I for one don't agree with sporn in game. You can still create sporn using the creators in game without sharing them to be used by others hence not get penalized in any way. You can then post these creations somewhere else.

Press the <TAB> key with a piece highlighted and you normally get more rotation options.
Edit: Applicable for most parts/editors.

When the creature creator first came out there was a lot of sporn made. As a community they were reported and the people were banned for a week and the creature was removed. The same thing needs to happen now.
Edit: It's not difficult to highlight the creature and ban it. It should however be easier to see the difference between "ban/report" the creature (send a message to EA reporting it) and simply delete it from your game (by deleting it from your download area). As it stands the difference isn't that apparent

I've noticed that also. I admit it's hard to make the effort when in game to rate creatures. It was a lot easier when you simply had the creature creator. Maybe when all these "what's wrong with spore" topics die down more creativity topics will be started. I can only hope. Also I must make more of an effort in game to comment on other people's creations I like when I come across them in game.

My first space game I decided to use my Zealot power on a new race to see what it did... Result.. Lots of races declaring war with me (most I hadn't even seen). Solution.. Get a bomb and nuke the other races. So what if I lost a couple of "captured" colonies I could always nuke them later. I actually found this was fairly easy to do and the warmongerer ranking meant better weapons were quite quickly purchased.
Other than that time however I have generally found it no problem to keep races civil. Spend time trading and doing missions for them, build trade routes, terraform their planets and generally keep them happy. If they like you enough ignoring their tribute requests doesn't have much impact although their requests get larger. The only problem is possibly warlike races which if they go orange I generally nuke as they are not worth the bother. Also not sure if not having enough funds and pointing out that funds unavailable impacts your reputation less than saying an outright no.

To sum up...
A lot of gripes about spore I hear is that people expected Age of Empires in the civilization phase, Masters of Orion for the Space Phase as well equally complex other phases, oh and all the editors as well. Ok this was probably the dream but realistically did you really expect it ?
The game itself is complex although the gameplay is rather simplistic. Never had problems in space and enjoy spore as is.

I think length of time also affects rating. Rating degrades in an attempt to keep new things being "recycled". Unfortunately this degradation is only processed when the creation in question is rated so it can appear as though a high rating creature actually loses rating even when rating it up.

At most in one game I found 2 meteor pieces. In general though getting them all doesn't make that much of a difference.
Even as a herbivore there are ways to get pieces other than from meteors. One is to try to survive around carnivores remembering that you do not have to kill the creatures to get the part. The other is equip poison as soon as you can as that tends to get more drops. Bear in mind however that certain parts only appear in certain phase levels.

Also having a great time. Ok the space stage is definately the hardest, especially if you try to rush it but I found all the stages enjoyable. Include with that the ability to create things using editors which my 5 year old daughter has great fun using and this game has already been worth the money.
A lot more enjoyable and varied than the normal see something shoot it and see lots of blood and guts games. Seems that this is what people want unfortunately.

Though, once I tried doing it, it took me a few tries to get "Flight of the Bumblebee". I had to find a high enough hill, max my jump, then max my flight in order to get it.
Simpler method is to get a boost from a spice jet. It gives you an initial boost and you can simply glide from there. Very easy.
