If you don't say so then you don't have one.
Btw, you have the most posts for having 5 stars I know.

10-4, rubber duckie! (Austin Powers--Goldmember quote ). hey, do you know if anyone else is picking up coding for this? i know Blackey1 (i think that's his name) codes, but he's the only one i know of...

but most people don't think to do that, or are too lazy to. after all, do you? i think Sven should just add it to the OP to eliminate further questions... has anyone PM'd him about it, on the Evolutions forums or this one?

we have our sights set on essentially infinite possibilities, but realistic possibilities. So yes, you could have 1,000 foot tall trees, but the question is if they'd be able to survive on the planet. if so, then they'll probably stay the same or evolve so they can live easier in the environment (which would probably be a lower gravity environment, high in oxygen and water with plenty of sun... that is, assuming the plants are like those we know here on earth ). however, on the flip side, if they could NOT survive in their environment at 1,000 feet tall, they would evolve to be different or end up going extinct. this would probably occur on a very hot or cold planet with inhospitable climates, or a very high gravity environment which wouldn't allow for tall plants to form unless they were very, very, very sturdy.
*ahem* back to what the original question was . we are aiming for ultimate customization so each play through is very unique. ideally, you will be able to customize everything from the makeup of the local solar system's chemical make-up to the geography of a certain planet; the digestive system in a tiny insect to the shape of an entire galaxy and everything in between.
of course that is assuming we can get people capable of coding all of this... this project basically has an equal input to it's output, in that if you want to have a specific feature come out in the end result, you'll have to be willing to put in the effort to make it... or someone will have to put in the effort .
ehh, looking back, that last statement is a bit inaccurate... you'll have to be willing to put in a very considerable amount of effort (or someone will) in order to get a desired result. so keep in mind, all your ideas eventually have to be programmed. and for those who think the task of coding is impossibly daunting: keep in mind that you always have to start somewhere. the professional coders at one point or another knew diddly squat about how to write programs, so who says any of you can't go out and learn to be the best of the best when it comes to coding?

[Sarcasm] But lucky for for me, I get tons of homework have sports, and no time. How great! [Sarcasm]
I'll try. I have no time, even on the weekend.
It's the same with me. I'm pretty much booked from 6am to 7 or 8 pm every day, if not for longer. My schedule will clear up a little soon, with football being over.
i wanted to play football so bad but couldn't for health reasons... i might be able to next year, which i'm excited about
anyways, back to Evo!... i'm still pretty booked, but it looks like things will start clearing up in the near future, so i'm expecting to be able to be online more in the coming months.

thanks.
on that note... anyone need a team member? i'd be interested in helping out, but just know that i have a lot going on in Real Life so i won't be able to get online every night (but i'll be on enough to participate, rest assured).
EDIT: Iceman, that is pretty sick!

Glad you're on board, R3D! if you want to *really* be a big help, you could learn to code jk... but it would be helpful . I would love to, but i don't think i have the ability to balance that between family/friends, school, HW, fun stuffs, a job i might be getting in the near future (kind of), so on and so forth. again, once i get everything all balanced and i'm finally a bit more settled in to the school routine again, i'll probably be able to get back into the whole swing of Evo!. until then, i apologize for my absence from there.
But yeah, glad we got you on the team. hopefully the Evo! forums get a little bit more active in a few weeks, and even more hopefully we will get a few more people capable of coding. until then, i would encourage you, R3D, as well as anyone else interested to just look around the forums, post any ideas, critique existing ideas, or anything else constructive.
well, it's late, i'm hungry, and i have to get up early... so i think i'm gonna go eat and then go to bed. g'night, everyone

R3DS74R wrote:So, are there any actual programmers working on that Evolutions project?
Or are you kind of just a bunch of people talking on a forum, like we do here? I went to the website and could find no evidence of anything happening... just a lot of chatter in the off-topic forum, and a main forum section that was effectively dead.
If you actually DO ever get off the ground, and you have something to show... I am a sound designer and would donate SFX to a project like this.
But I'm extremely skeptical.
well, we only have a small hand-full of programmers (well, even less than that ) who can't work full time because, of course, they have real lives. The off topic section *is* the main center of activity (sadly), and i personally think that Sven should reduce the size of it to encourage more relative discussion, but we do have people who post in the actual forums (by "actual forums", i mean the parts where we discuss the development... i'll refer to that as the actual forums for simplicity). So while it doesn't seem like anyone posts in the actual forums, people do. i think it's pretty dead there just because school is still only a month in, and most people are still trying to settle into their routines (i am, for one, which is why i haven't been on in a while...), so i'm fairly certain that people will start coming back in a month or two.
As far as i know, we don't have much to show, but as a SFX engineer, you would be invaluable to the team -- you know Spore (so you know what we're trying to out-do ), you know how to do something most of us don't, and you're intelligent... or so you seem... haha, jk. but yeah, we would absolutely LOVE to have someone like you on the team. i can understand you being skeptical, seeing as i was at first, and we don't have much to show, but at the moment, people are working on the behavior editor and creature creator but it probably won't be done for a while... so i'm not really sure how to assure you that we're 4 realz. if you have any questions, feel free to ask away, i suppose.
and thanks a ton for your interest . like i said, we really need some people who know what they're doing

then let the carnage begin

0pts, just RPing for the heck of it

IC: Iathaz to mainly Itionio but the other empires as well: "it's not a cover up! why would we kill our own men, and end up giving you your staff of whatever? And yes, we didn't want you to be scouting out potential moon base locales or anything like that, because your empire has proven to be less than trustworthy in the past. And no, we haven't been trying to build missile bases because unilke you, we are *loyal* to our friends, we do not make enemies with those who don't deserve it, and we try to be as peaceful as possible.
And we didn't want you to come sniffing around for whatever you were looking for because you never stated that you were searching for part of your history. if you had said that earlier, we may have been less skeptical, but again -- you proved your empire was less than trustworthy, so we were reluctant with good reason.
and you have been getting more powerful, *AND* more aggressive. this little moon incident just proves my point! we were building our defenses to protect ourselves in the event something like this happens, and it looks like we were wise to do so.
i will leave you with one final message, Itionio: you have worn out your welcome with us. you can either leave now and deal with what losses you've already suffered, or you can be killed by our unrelenting attacks on your colonies. we would have accepted an offer for peace, but you ruined your chances for that long ago. my recommendation to you now would be to get out while you still can because when we fight, we won't stop until either WE are all dead, or YOU are all dead."

18pts

IC: Gen. Iathaz to military leaders: "Who do they think they are?! They claimed to be recovering goods and potentially saving the pilots, and then what do they do? they kill my men! well i won't have that in my system! Ready the forces for a full scale attack! ((-18pts on attack on Calthra Colonies homeworld... i believe it is Cutho, but i'm not sure))"
Gen. Iathaz to all other races in the sector: "Everyone, please listen -- Itionio is a liar, a murderer and a traitor! Not more than a day ago he told us a freighter of their colors crashed on our moon, and that he was requesting permission to search for it! we sent our men up to ensure he wasn't lying, and he ended up killing all of them! He has now begun to attack on our colony on Schen, and we have begun a counter attack on his homeworld. I urge you all to keep this from happening to you! Don't listen to Itionio!
Also, you may not believe in fighting or may not want to cause conflict against the Calthra Colonies, but we desperately need assistance in fighting them, for they have the capability to call in reenforcements at a moment's notice. So if anyone can, please aid us in our fight against Itionio and the Calthra Colonies! we have gone after their homeworld on Cutho, so attack the other planets if you can. We warn you again, do not listen to Itionio!"

0pts left... i hope i didn't just make a terrible mistake
