Except in Texas, and only it supports the bible.

I've posted admiration for the base design and conceptualization of Spore. What blows me away is the data servers and database code. I'm a web services programmer and professional data mauler. What the original team accomplished is amazing, but the service via XML, the data spraying and consolidation, and the array design.
Too bad that once the original team was gone the EA programmers rolled back to less than sterling DB2 games, and cobbled the original service in places.
I'm still awed by what they've done with the web services and data design.
The program code I'm not so impressed with, since the design is interesting but it was accomplished in pretty much common structures -- with the exception of gait and locomotion, which CHecker talks about at length.
Most people don't understand the code or the concepts, they only see the Emerald City and think they know all about the guy behind the curtain.

Except colonize or bomb all the planets around it. And then sit on your computer all day waiting for them to attempt to leave so that you can destroy them over and over again.
Anyone think this won't happen? No man will sit in front of a computer for over 24 hours just to wring the lulz out of someone? Wrong. I've seen worse; I've seen teams of people who take turns playing an account and sitting in the same spot for days waiting to get something to spawn.
Yeah, just like nobody would buy and bribe additional logins so they can uprate or downrate or torment people on the MPN.
Nah, nobody would EVER do a thing like that.

Pretty old, but this is where I heard the server stuff from. Granted, a lot of these games aren't extremely high-achieving games.
Oh, and here I though PAT told you... Worry about it now and build your own, or forget about it until it happens. Because crying wolf doesn't help, and begging EA won't change anything. You know, part of the solution, or part of the problem...

Yeah. Well. Thanks for that. I. guess. Right.

I love the design structure of spore. The idea of automated player shared and generated NPC content is bizarre and wonderful.
And that's enough sharing for me. If I wanted an MMO space game, there are plenty of them. There are MMO's for SPORE near every genre. There is no good reason that EVERY game has to be twisted into an MMO.

I live in Iowa. The whole mid-section of the USA is erratic. This week we have had thundersnow, thunderstorms, high winds and now it's really hot out. Everybody says if you don't like the weather, wait a minute. It's almost true.
This is the start of tornado season, and spring is usually wild here. There's not often that perfect spring weather people talk about. More often storms and erratic changes from cold to heat and back. Then suddenly, sometime in May -- SUMMER.

MinionJoe and I were just talking about playing last night. He's kept up with builds, but I sort of let my installation drift. Think I will go up date it today.

Go into the HELP section, near the bottom of the index page. There is a thread called "what to do before you post" or something similar in the stickies.
This is a known error, and there are links to information about it in that thread.
Spore has so many errors, it's often easier to just use google and search for them. Don't use this site's search. It's borked.

Ah, have you tried Pale Moon?
I actually did try a development version of that one. And then there's always Silk.

Meekota wrote:I wasn't there during the server error Cloudy, your argument is invalid.
To me, it's basically just RUMOR, but it is true that EA shut down and suspended online support and servers for many games in January. The same decision may be given to the Spore server this year, though I'm not too certain.
Pat was the one who told me that the Spore server may be shutting down, dunno where he heard it from.
Because passing unfounded rumour and innuendo as though you are privy to some inner-circle knowledge is always a really great choice.

Because this is adding so much to the discussion. I wouldn't say anything, except that you bothered to scold the OP and then set such a sterling example for him/her/itself.

neodayao is snuggling up to some really OLD threads.
There's no reason you can't post in them if you want, but there are newer threads about most of these topics that have seen more activity.
