Correct. Also to make sporecasts containing collections of creatures.

The symbol with the globe and "tick" shown in the last creature indicates shared to the world. The creature you circled does not have that so no, online people cannot see it. To make it so they can simply click the share button on the bottom right of the screen.
You can always check by visiting www.spore.com and looking at your creatures in the sporepedia once you have logged in.

Its not you.. I don't think a lot of people who cry out for "science spore" actually can define what they want. Science spore was generally a label, often used to indicate the difference between current spore and the 2005 video. Its a shame as Spore would be an excellent vehicle to introduce some scientific ideas to children.

TnT-Productions wrote: As i stated earlier if one feels like downrating something that not necessarily fits their taste, who's to say that someone downrating a creation simply because they are tired of seeing a certain creator on the top of the MPN is wrong? In my point of view that just seems wrong.
I can sympathise with your opinion. As a question to ponder... how many "fresh faces" are seen in the MPNL? Asking because I don't check it. To get ratings you generally need to be known first unless you are lucky. It's unfotunate but it's the way things work. Trying to produce a phrase which covers my feelings about ratings. The closest I could come up with... Downrating a person is wrong. Downrating a creation isn't (providing it's not downrated because of it's current rating). If I take this premise, how would I potentially enforce it.
As a thought.. What effect would hiding the "rating face" from anyone other than the owner. Unfortunately the firefox add-on destroys that thought...

You are in the US forums...

What is the reason you create and share things (ok potentially share things for the current boycotters)

You don't need a downrate button to do away with improper content. You need a better report option that actually works... tho that is another issue LOL.
Reporting should get rid of offensive creatures. That is my understanding of it's purpose and one I think we agree on. The idea is not to report things you simply don't like.
TnT-Productions wrote:I only see the purpose of the rating one way. Exposure! Has little to do with creators egoes, but more of guiding users to what might be interesting for them to get in the game. Don't get me wrong, it has to do with egoes as well.. but I don't think that was the intention with the rating system in the first place. But it certainly shouldn't be used to influence what people should create. Diversity is something we need and should have, not trying to influence creators into creating the same thing.
In this paragraph you both confirm and deny my point. The main purpose of creation is to have the ability to have them in-game. If not why place them in the sporepedia in the first place ?
My own personal feelings (and I admit I may be in the minority) is that influence is a natural side effect of any rating system. How this is to be used is up to the community. You may decide it shouldn't be used that way. I may decide it should, Joe Bloggs may decide he wants to use it that way every other day. Nobody is right or wrong. If people aren't being malicious about what they are doing and using in-built tools who am I to say they are not doing things correctly.
Simply saying that people get exposure via ratings on its own doesn't really work. You need to get noticed first. Nobody has time to check all the sporepedia entries to rate unknown creators up. Normally people rate up/comment on buddies or contents of sporecasts. Many great creators who may never visit these forums probably go unoticed. I don't know of any solution to this and it has been a concern since the old creature creator days.

So why didn't you check what it contained before purchase if you didn't want to feel "ripped off". The contents of the cute/creepy pack has been known for some time.

TnT-Productions wrote:what you are saying here is that it is totally ok to downrate creations that you think is good, but doesn't fit into your game. Even tho you have the "right" to do so, it doesn't make it right.
Doesn't make it wrong either. Although I very rarely downrate (sporn or stolen creatures), ratings can be used to influence what gets created. That's why stolen creatures are often downrated and also Sporn (as well as being reported). The idea is to inform people that the creations are not to peoples taste.
I guess the question is what is the purpose of ratings. Is it to simply stoke egos of creators or is it to influence the direction of what people create in the long term?

Link provided does not work for me at the moment. Also is this another "only american users" deal. Worth noting as a lot of the people from these american forums don't actually reside in the US.

Check the parts on your creature..
1 = Sing (Mouths), 2=Dance (Feet), 3=Charm, 4=Pose (Hands). Each stat is between 1 and 5. Higher is better. Different parts have different stats. If you don't have many parts find some more from bones on the ground. Simply click on the bones to get a new part. If you see multiple skeletons grouped together be careful. You may have what is known as an "Epic" nearby.

I have about 30000 downloads from buddy lists and rarely get Maxis creations even in space.

From EA News:
Spore is an incredibly personal and customizable experience,” said Lucy Bradshaw, general manager of Maxis studio. “Many of our fans have asked us for even more tools to build with, while others are looking to extend their gameplay. As soon as we wrapped up Spore, we turned our focus to creating additional content that caters to fans’ individual tastes. With the cosmos as our backdrop, we can take Spore in almost infinite directions, constantly changing and evolving the experience.”
Gamers will experience deeper Space stage gameplay with an expansion pack scheduled for release in spring 2009. For the first time, players’ space faring creatures will be able to beam down from their spaceships to explore new planets and earn rewards for completing challenging missions. A new Adventure Creator will allow players to build and share online their own custom missions, providing almost endless gameplay possibilities."
It should be noted that the following thread was created by Maxis asking for additional ideas for this expansion:
Spore Space Adventures Official Feedback Thread
If Cute and Creepy sells well I daresay we will also see some more parts packs as these are produced mainly by artists rather programmers who are probably all hard at work on the expansion.
After the space expansion who knows...
