Awesome, that confirms that 64-bit is the problem. So Spore is not officially supported for 64-bit? That's odd.
Until then, I guess my workaround will have to do.

Updated original post with results from two other computers.
If anyone has a 64-bit Vista computer I'd be very grateful if you could post here to say whether you suffer from the bug when you START Spore in Windowed mode. Please post even if you don't have the bug.

I'll update the post with my results if/when I get my old PC working again to test.
Let me know if there's any info about my set up that you need/want.

Seashell77: Does the problem occur with all new creatures you make? Does my fix work? Also what OS and service pack are you using, and is it 32-bit or 64-bit?

I know I'm not the only person with this bug, because I've seen another poster with the same problem.
I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit. I think the bug only started when I installed patch 1.04, but I'm not 100% sure.
So far, what I know:
If I open Spore in Windowed mode, then any and all creations will be subject to this bug. Here's an example: http://eu.spore.com/sporepedia/view.cfm?id=500385337397
If I open Spore in Fullscreen mode, the bug does not occur, even if I switch to Windowed mode.
If I start in Windowed mode, and then change to Fullscreen and back to Windowed mode, the bug is worked around.
I've tested this with 1024x768 and 1680x1050, both at 60Hz. My monitor is 1920x1200. I have also confirmed that Windowed mode initially causes the bug at 1920x1200 resolution, but I've not tested switching into Fullscreen.
As things stand, the bug seems to only affect Windowed mode players. If you want to play in Windowed mode, there is a tedious but functional workaround. Unfortunately this has to be repeated every time you open Spore.
If anyone can shine any more light on this bug it'd be great.
I have successfully tested this bug on a Windows XP Home SP3 32-bit machine, and a Windows Vista Home Premium SP0 32-bit machine. Neither showed the bug even when starting in Windowed mode. The XP computer has out of date graphics drivers but Spore ran successfully and the bug didn't happen.
The 32-bit Vista machine is the relevant one, since its setup is virtually identical to mine. I will try reinstalling Spore and the expansions on my own computer, and if the bug remains then it is likely that it's a conflict with Vista 64.

I have the same bug. I've tried restarting my whole computer, no success. I've also tried making small changes and resaving, and that doesn't work either. For me, the bug occurs with all creatures and cells, but not for Buildings, Vehicles, or Spaceships. It also occurs if I use Tribal Outfitter (and presumably the other clothes creators) on a creature with a non-bugged card. If you load up a creature with a correct card and change NOTHING except the name, the bug still occurs.
For what it's worth, I think the bug is actually that the creature is absurdly zoomed out for no immediately apparent reason.
I'm not sure if this bug started on 1.04 or not, because I've barely played on my current computer.
I'm using Windows Vista 64-bit, if that's remotely relevant.
In case anyone wonders why so many edits, that's because I'm updating this post every time I test something else.

Is it planned that they'll patch that to allow multiple galaxies without renaming the folders?
