Hello people. As I am not active on Spore anymore, anyone can send me a pm to get a hold of me. So if you need help with a building, don't hesitate to pm me. I have it set up that if I receive a pm I get an email. So take care everyone :)

Tutorial by tomographics - How to make art using cylinders
Creating Art using Cylinders and the Crane Technique
OK, many of you know how to create circles using the crane technique and the Building Block by simply alt,tab and rotating it. This tutorial is simply going to show you how to create circles using the Tube Cabin (cylinder). The end result will look similar to these.
Before you do this tutorial please make sure that you know the crane technique!!!!!
Also please have the Base Mod! The mod can be found here http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/57715.page
To do these simply start off like you usually would with the crane technique.
Notice that the base block which the connector and cylinder are supported on are facing towards the camera.
Now simply use the mouse wheel to make everything to the size that you want. (I usually make everything the smallest possible apart from the base)
Click on the cylinder so that the rotation bars come up and rotate it so that they match the rotations lines as show. You will feel it click into place and that means that they are inline with the base below. Now rotate the cylinder using Tab 180 degrees. Then using the Shift key move it into the center on the connector. Use the Ctrl key to raise it up in the air. See picture below if you did not understand that.
Notice how if you move your mouse over the connector the cylinder above will glow blue. This means that if you move the connector the cylinder will move to. If the cylinder does not glow blue then repeat the steps above. If it does glow that CONGRATULATIONS!! You did the hard part!! Now simply do exactly what you would do for the usual crane technique.
Now you can get creative. This is what i did.

Well with art, the point of it is for it to be looked at. So I think you should add some more eye popping color. Like just this by techno adds so much to the creation:
I think you need more oomph. You have the basics down, and I think that you are ready to take things to a more advanced level and step it up alan. Take a look at the building creators in the first post such as techno, Chaos, Kuzuki, Vektrix, tomographics, arastoph and a few more, who make abstract art. Those are the ones just off of the top of my head. Looking at reference pictures is a good idea too.
Commented on your snowflake Digi. I also agree with your critique. Now that you pointed out that it looks off balance and to put another tower on the other side, that is what was missing.

Can't share it due to freedom though.

Awesome shiny colors and circles. When I seen it, I immediately thought of Mickey Mouse though (cause of the three circles). Not sure if that was intended. The stars look great as well as the slightly twisted, green and yellow, cylindrical object. Not sure if the black rectangles around it looks all that great though. It kind of takes away from the creation. A pattern might make it cluttered though :?: I think purple and silver would look great in the creation, but that's just me though :P Below the cylinder it kind of looks bare, or that something is missing. This is probably due to so much action near the top of it.

Of mine, I would say either of these two:

Imaginea does awesome art too such as these two:

Digi-P also makes awesome art:

Berbert77 is another that makes awesome art:

Sethan777's creations are amazing too!:

techno knows that I love his stuff as well :D
So I advise everyone to take a look at these creators. These are just a few. I don't have any favorites, but pretty much anything these creators make is really good :)

Damnagoras wrote:No, the adventure "Eaten!" is the most popular creation of all time. Followed by a not so impressive creation, made to whine at Maxis to fix the sporepedia search. Then, at third place, we have good old Darwin ;)
Well Damnagoras.... ya it was the most popular creation for that day. But notice how it's not anymore. Darwin will always be up there.

Rate decay takes into effect after 24 hours. Basically so we see new things on the MPN (most popular new). One rate equals 3 points. After that it gradually decreases but never goes below zero.
It does have comments. 3788 to be exact (I have a mod that tells me how many). It probably just took a bit to load for you.
And what's the point of that? So as to keep the MPN from flowing? Also: The MPN should die. Painfully.
So when people make new stuff, it has a better chance of people seeing it. And yes, so the MPN is different everyday. I agree too. No one should care about the MPN.

Heh, you would have to post a creation here for me to critique then alan :)

I like it Lum. The shiny colors look great, has a nice clean, sleek, and sci-fi feel too. The circular ship landing/space port thingy looks wonderful as well. The different levels and sizes of the tower things are good. The rings add more to it as well. I know that you wanted it only two colors, but more color would make it look more dynamic. It's missing something too, probably more detail. I can't put my thumb on it though :(
Lol Lum. Santa knows everyone! :P

Also what is the whole charles darwin thing about? I know who he is but what does he have to do with your creation?
Talking to the dude before you. (Astoroph)
Charles Darwin is a creation that isn't affected by rate decay. He's the most popular creation of all time.

arastoph wrote:- I was the first creator (and may still be) to be featured 6 times.
- I held the record for the longest time at the top of the all time popular list with a creation suffering from rate decay (charles darwin and other old creations do not suffer from this) the creation in question had over 450 positive ratings.
- I have been here so long i have seen the rise and fall of MUD club (the original), hugmonster arrival and the invention of many a spore meme and i intend to stay till the end.
~I have 6 features too :P
~Sorry arastoph, but I doubt that you've held the record for the MPL (most popular list not most popular new). I've seen a ton of creations up there for a long time.
~I've been here for that long as well. Since creature creator days.
~My All About Buildings thread over in Creator Corner has helped a lot of creators.
~My adventure was the third one featured, besides the Maxis made one.
~I've had three Maxis employees comment on my adventure
~I wasn't the first to do silhouettes and paintings, but I was the one that made them popular and are still made right now.
