It happens when you skip the cutscene as you arrive at that planet. It stops the ship from spawning and your scanner never picks it up. Effectively your race is doomed to never leave the home system. Maybe a future patch will address this issue but for now all you can do is start a new game. Skip one special cutscene = no interstellar space travel for you.

This is yet another well documented (by the players) bug that the developers seem to be completely unaware of. They should read the help forum sometime.

I agree, try to contact him and ask nicely for the account login / password, or else what he sold you was bogus and you can try to get a refund from him/ebay. Don't expect EA or the Spore people to help you at all, because this is exactly what they don't want to happen. They hate people reselling games. That why we have to put up with secure-rom.

If you manage to get your drivers updated and still have graphic/sound problems, it's probably because of one or both of the patches. Don't even bother trying to undo that with your level of computer savvy it's way beyond you, sorry to say.

The most I would pay for a parts pack is $10, provided that first they actually fixed the current game so it stops crashing when I leave my home world. They don't seem to care about that though, so I don't care to give them any more money.

Keep releasing overpriced parts packs. Each one diminishes the value I got from buying Spore and increases the value of pirating it. Eventually there comes a tipping point.

In all the times mine crashed while leaving the homeworld, I don't think I ever had an uber-turret installed there. Anyway we figured this problem out a long time ago and it's all posted in this thread, memory dumps and all, as if Maxis cared.

It happened to me with three races. I just kept starting over. It always happens about halfway though the space stage. My current game I just ignore the home world to avoid the crashes.

Maxis should be ashamed of themselves for missing this bug again after two patches. SHAME ON YOU MAXIS!

This is outrageous. Epic fail Maxis. Try reading the forums. The crash while leaving homeworld bug has been in the game since the start, well documented by the players, including how to fix it. Maxis you are a bunch of goons. I'm disgusted.

Can anyone confirm or deny that Patch #2 has any effect on this bug? Are homeworlds still auto-decorating the cities and making the game crash?

I wouldn't count on system restore to fix any problem whatsoever. It might fix something, but it's a slim chance at best. Not something you could ever count on like they'd have you believe.

If you have entered any cheat codes into the game, it stops you from getting any achievements after that.

Asside from feeling all fuzzy about being an OK cheater, you might want to take a grain of wisdom from all of this, that if you had not tried to cheat with dubious 3rd party programs that might well have infected your computer with virii or rootkits, in the end you ruined your own fun as these things ruined your game installation. A little self control in the future will save you these headaches. When you complete a game without cheating you get a much better fuzzy feeling of accomplishment, rather than the hollow 'meh' that comes from experiencing a game in god-mode.
