Even something childish can have inherent value as a game. Example, ive played animal crossing, viva pinata, harvest moon, and many wii games that are extreemly childish looking. BUT that doesnt mean that childish=a poor game. The point is those seemingly simple games have a story or some skill involved, or are somewhat multiplayer. Its been my experience that for all the diversity of spore, there is very little to DO with it all, and thus people are done with it in a few weeks. And since what you do in one game has little to no effect on your other games in the universe, it is hard to stay motivated to populate your galaxy with your species.
Are our suggestions being considered for future patches and expansions regarding increasing the complexity of gameplay? I don't need to know which, but a yes or no answer would certainly be informative.
I will point you to these posts http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/5225.page

Held together by a thread or not, the concept for a more complex and engaging game was there. There was a conscious decision to dumb down the game. In the opinion of many of us, this was a terrible choice. Since when does improving and polishing a game include gutting it in favor of style?
But you cant actually do all of that. Theres very little in the game that actually allows the player to create their own stories. You are force marched into one of 3 tactics in any given stage. The lack of complexity and meaning behind anything you do seriously detracts from the lasting enjoyment of this game. If you want to inspire creativity in your children, then id suggest you let them play with legos and other toys and not this superficial "game".

For whoever responded to my post, I truely do believe that he was an intern at maxis. My point was that even if he wasnt, his ideas were still great. Really the main thing that keeps me coming back to spore is the potential. The original concept was pure gold, and it was dropped. It is a travesty. I would pay full retail price for the old prototype that was described in the first post. I want Science Spore!
I will only buy it if it improves upon the game play. If the complexity is bumped up, and the scientific concepts from 2005 are there then most definitely.

If it is only more creature parts, plant editor and underwater level. Heck no.

I wont support the continuation of more of spore's simplistic drek.
3... arent there other polls like this?
good idea... the whole "ill just look at 1 more post" gets me .... night everyone
Yet another good idea that was canned.... *sigh* When is enough enough? and when did it get to be 3 am...

I'd like to say however on topic that your post was a nigh poetic breath of fresh air . I like to see people around here with a good head on their shoulders.

Agreed! Excellent read, to the point and well thought out. Its been said before, but then again i am all for restating the obvious in this case because it is IMPORTANT. I do hope that someone upstairs does get the message. IF someone actually said "we hear you, we are working on it" then it would cut back on the need to restate the problem yet again.
One can only hope, as this is their forum

Maybe Spore is not doomed though, maybe if, just if, we're loud enough, the spore we wanted, the one he envisioned, could be brought to us. In spite of bugs and such, they could be patched. Even on this build we have now, maybe it could be patched.

Not expanded. Patched. If that ever happened, that one sublime act of saying "here it is, as it was meant to be" would be the single most amazing act of integrity on an online game-based world... ever.

Then you could really call him Gaming Jesus. Or Spode.

That is the dream right? If only we say it again or in the right way they will listen and fix Spore and have it live up to its potential. It would be a miracle if this game was patched with the fix. It would be awesome, as in filling us with awe. That sence of wonder at discovery that was mentioned so frequently by the designers would be restored.
Ultimate, i already agree with just about every post you make. Brilliant, and i'd be your #1 fan but then you've probably got real life friends and a mom.... So i can be your #1 online fan.

A relative I showed this game to, who is 10, looked at it, watched it, played a little of it, and said to me point blank "This is a little kid's game." He then went back to playing the Sims 2 (with several expansions he has hand selected and is awarded for good behavior) where he has an entire neighborhood filled with houses, sims, pets, and everything else that he made - and he makes these huge houses, and all of his sims are filthy rich - something I was never able to do without a certain console code

He would rather play The Sims 2, than Spore... and soon he's getting the season's addon which he gleefully explained everything about it to me. Seasons, storms, snow, heat-stroke, lightning...

I played with the creature editor with my 8yo sister and we both loved it. We were excited about spore when it came out. She played the game for 3 days and promptly started playing Sims 2 again. She then told me a few days ago that i was right about there needing to be more depth to the game(previously she was against it because it may be too hard) since it was "boring".

I LOVE cute, but to sacrifice the intelligence for the cute factor was monumentally foolish.
It doesn't matter if you believe him or not. The posts were excellent points on gameplay, as well as being well thought out. Personally i found that very interesting concepts for the game were dropped for whatever reason, and i was disappointed in the execution of the original concept.

Anyway! Tell us more about working at maxis!
Your sarcasm is not helpful...

The point is that something as ineffectual and harmful as securom should not be mandatory. And it is NOT true that you cant upload creatures. You can still upload the ping file from your documents folder to the net.
