as I said in the space stage tips post, dropping monoliths on a inhabited planet in tribal or civ staged saves you the trouble in building you own colonies. since in grox space there are really no empires, new ones will quckly expand to the planets you clear the grox out of, this gives you plenty of places to buy repair and supplies, one I uplifted is up to 20 colonies now and another one I just dropped had 4 just 30 minutes after they went to space stage. and they like me since I uplifted them.

this has helped me in my game to get to the center of the galaxy.
as you are blasting your way thru the grox. find some habited planets and drop a monoth.
when they advance to space stage, they will quickly spread to a lot of the planets you cleared of grox, this will give you lots of places close by to buy supplies. one I advanced is up to 20 planets that is 20 AOE repairs you can buy
also the megabomb is your friend, if you hit near the center of a grox city you will wipe it out.
I have cleared 2 city grox planets with 2 bombs in 10 seconds before when I get lucky.
and LOOT the cities you destroy, you can almost finance yourself totally from that. I get ~40k a pop average.

this happend to me too, I deleted two games before I got the hang of surviving in the space stage. the learning curve is steep even on easy sometimes.
the main thing is to get money, the colony you have to start for a mission is no help on this since it is on a t0 planet. so on the game I finally got the hang of the space stage on, I started looking for artifacts, these are pretty easy to find and if you get a few you can buy another colony. then find a planet that is almost t1, after loading up with plants and animals from your home world. I found one that had yellow spice, and only needed a preditor to get to t1, once you get money rolling in, you can upgrade your ship, and that is the key to surviving.
talking and paying tribute will buy you time too (and tribute is not so bad after the patch) but there is at leas one or two empires around you at the start that you almost can't help but getting into a fight with. espesally if you do missions to make allies. but once you upgrade your ship and get a ally or two, you can take all the planets but there homeworld which weakens them quite a bit. then you can take your time slowly taking down there homworld.
which depending on the color of spice they have can become a money pit. I had one game where a enemies homworld gave me 50 pink spice every time I stopped utill I doubled it to 100 with spice storage.

yeah I know what you mean. but I think the Grox are supposed to be part of the end game, you need to get though them to get to the center of the galaxy.
I am working on a game where I am going to try not to tick them off till I am ready to deal with them.....

I agree Bad Idea, maybe they could make parts rewards for power players. but dont' make them so you have to buy them. hard core players are more likely to by expansions so it would pay off in the end. but if I sense them geting too mercenary I can find other things to play.
