Staff of Life crash -> UNSOLVED
savegame loading crash/endless bug -> UNSOLVED
Messed up thumbnails bug -> UNSOLVED
So basically it's already the 2nd patch that didn't help much to solve the big issues. but at least we've got cube planets now.

The drive seems to be your documents folder and a network drive. The problem with this is most likely the following:
Network drives are registered in your userprofile only! EADM however seems to use a method to validate the drive that only identifies drives registered in the system. thus it can't validate the drive and reports an error. just a guess.

Someone should register spornpedia.com and set up an adult sporepedia version there.

I started my Human Empire near Earth an reclaimed it. Yeah, call me sentimental.
Colonies fit onto Asia, Africa and South America. At first it will widen the Landmass around those colonies, but since Spore seems to be unable or unwilling to save the modified landmass, it will revert to almost normal when you leave earth and come back.

Well, i can't say for sure. You'll never know until you tried everything. My suggestion was just the only case i knew which most likely helps. You may also try if it works when you save, close the game and try it again afterwards. are you able to communicate with your homeplanet and go to trade mode? is the interstellar drive for sale, maybe?

welcome to the club. it is best to get used to such bugs, as you'll encounter lots of them in this game... especially in space. as a solution for the interstellar drive problem: I'd suggest to start a new game in space-stage and to select the creature of your other game. this way you have a new system but still your species and thus almost no gametime loss.

New startsystems will pop up. There is always an amount of free systems to start with.

err... i'm pretty sure that you get the acheivement when another player bans your creation because he didn't like it and NOT when it is banned by Maxis because it violated the terms!

on vista, try to run spore as Administrator (rightclick -> Run as Administrator) while you are online. It might be possible that spore tries to write the verification information to some location that is not available without administrative rights. there is a chance that you might be able to use spore offline afterwards.
[EDIT] duh, i just noticed that you have XP, shame on me. just forget my suggestion as it can't be the case in XP (unless you are using a Userprofile without administrative rights).

Oh, for the very brave, the coordinates of crazy little Fraeleigia and Alternate Earth (tm) are 225.26deg, 7850.37pc.
That's funny. My Human Empire started at exactly those coordinates! I chose this starting point since i knew it was close to Sol and wanted to occupy Earth for the Humans again. But for me, the starting system is completely normal. the planet with the crashed spaceship (which is there) does not look like earth at all. So it seems as the problem does nto ALWAYS occur at those coordinates.

It happened to me too, recently. But the planet where the shipwreck should be was in fact the planet with the destroyed cities on it. the radar cutscene started, but as soon as it should focus on the shipwreck the screen went black. the shipwreck was nowhere to be found.
But it isn't that much of an issue, as jou have just started a new space game anyway. Thus, you can just delete the game and start a new one by selecting the same species.

I recently noticed that a new save spot appeared directly where sol is. it must be one of it's direct neighboring systems. too bad i already started my human empire further down the orion belt. they colonized earth already, but it is completely off and thus pretty useless. i consider deleting them and starting over again close to earth.

How about wiping out a whole galactic arm? I'm already halfway done with one of them. since i allied the grox they are all begging for destruction, those morons.

You'll start as wanderer when you start a new space game and select a creature that has no other traits yet. (ie. a creature made in the creature editor and not during a full game)

I'd pick Gatos:
