I use 2 routers both with different port ranges. yeah yeah i know, bull but ey it works and was the only wayt to ensure my network to reach some rooms I wanted it to reach without buying new cables(im cheap like that). I dont really want to go through the hassle of opening and closing. I keep my standard ports open. But I also have several ports open in around the then thousands for more selective groups.
Besides my main router closes all ports that arent used till i boot up something that needs to use it.
@Kesarra,
You are thinking of a user point of view, logical as you are a user of the product. Try thinking out of the company's point of view were for most companies the main goal is to make a profit, second being to please you customers. What would be a secure and fast way to deliver said patches. Download Managers. They give you extra stuff like other download managers do, like continueing when closed without restarting the entire file. But they can also manage all other, in this case, EA games for you at the same time. Even when there not booted up. There just there to make it practical and easy, though its new so people shun away from it.

Windows marks anything that isnt directly doing anything with the box it shows as unresponding. While in fact it might be patching on the background with no indicator even though its there then suddenly plop 100%.
Just let it wait out, but if after like 15 minutes still no 100% then it probably is unresponsive

Hard to use EADM on a computer with no internet connection, isn't it?
Wasn't an internet connection listed as a requirement for the game?
But one can buy the disc and play offline. But, what the fun with that??
But you still need an internet connection to verify your installation, which I think is required even for offline play.
Internet connection required for online connection to Sporepedia. Once it's authorised there's nothing stopping me from taking that computer off the internet and playing Spore.
Or in my case, taking the computer off the internet and putting it back in my kids room so they can play Spore on their computer. I do not allow the internet in their room as I am a careful parent, but I'll let them play Spore. If they want creatures they download them from my computer (which has an internet connection and Spore) and copy them via USB to their computer.
Also too, I will not install EADM. It's spyware in the nature that it does NOT close itself down after I finish with Spore. It remains open, with a port open to EA.
I'm impressed that you don't allow your kids internet in their room, more parents should take that precaution no matter what anyone else says.
However I still need a link so I can directly download the patch and the minute they disallow us from downloading without the EADM ( which I rarely leave turned on) then I will return the game for a refund. That's final I won't tolerate that after some of us have pointed that we are on lowspeed dialup simply because we have no choice so I have to have a direct download.
I can understand that if there below 12 years of age. Between 12-16 id say, as a parent, you can and really should activily monitor there internet behaviour but shoving them away from it...dunno if thats such a good idea. But thats me. Anyway back ontopic.
Also, EADM uses the standard ports, that are open even if its closed. Besides its not spyware as it doesnt log anything else besides EA games. Though, be patient for a Direct Download Link, it will be avaible when the patching mayhem for most has toned down a bit.

You are aware that color thing is not a bug or anything...it simply carries over your last color from a new game.

On Saturday, Torrentfreak wrote that the game had already been downloaded more than 500,000 times on BitTorrent sites. This download rate exceeds that of any other pirated game in history, and in a week or two from now it will be the most pirated game ever on BitTorrent based on Torrentfreak statistics.
So, to avoid DRM they don't like, the immoral turn to downloading cracked files. Now bear with me a minute:
To crack a file, a hacker has to be at least somewhat proficient at programming.
Cracking files is illegal, and immoral.
Immoral programmers are capable of writing all sorts of malware, spyware, etc.
The hacker who cracked SPORE might have stuck a few extra presents in there for you.
Pirate if you will, I'll take my chances with the DRM.
you really dont need a programming background to hack you know. Hell even a leek could write a small worm or trojan in Batch language. but yeah, you can hae malicious people hacking stuff. thankfully the Torrent community works on groups they trust, like reloaded. Just As Axxo is a renowned movie uploader.

In the settings menu you can devine how much and when the sporepedia has to download. Ive set it to download everything, from earlier then 7 days. And I define something as a buddy, wich nets me everything they created in a single click. Meaning if someone has 70 creatures, 40 buildings and 120 vehicles. My game will down 230 extra items into my game just from that player.

add more people to your buddy list, downloading there creations. Should net you a more diverse amount of aliens.

What i want to know is, if DRM uses online activation, then how do those play without online access?

The cyan empire has to no reason for the extra wildlife care or care of prisoners of war. The Female's of said destroyed species will be enslaved and used to extract dna or used for experiments.

But doesnt ea ban the user from its own game for several days of creating said content that is banned =/ kinda contradicts to have a achievement for that.

Remember that the purpose of DRM is to protect the livelihood of the creators of software. Remember that without the restriction of rights, a single instance of software can easily be duplicated, hence depriving livelihood. Trust cannot be relied upon, the 500,000 copies online clearly shows a break of thrust by 500,000 people. Unless you have a better solution, companies will still continue using software to enforce DRM.
The real issue is just how much rights should the consumer be allowed to retain?
(since the article doesn't mention about SecureRom, I'm treating that as a seperate issue, and will not discuss it here.)
you are aware that in most countries, downloading is not illegal. Therefor downloading such games is not breaking the law. What is breaking the law in those countries is Hacking and uploading said game for others to download.
DRM was indeed introduced to battle piracy, but it does not mean that the userbase that does neatly by there game in the store has to suffer from it. Btw, securom is the protection method to enforce the DRM problem. Without Securom, the DRM would not exist.
In my opinion and luckily in most other countries and there laws the product's license is with the company that created and sold it. But the bought product is ownership of the one who bought it. The one who bought it, is free to do with it whatever he wishes other then illegally spreading said software. Meaning, Since I bought it. I should be able to install and play the game on any computer i want, without calling EA for extra authentication.
