can someone tell me the forums codes for things making pictures appear and stuff

i used the < img src= code but for some reason when i use it on a forum message it just shows the words and not the picture even tho i check the preview box to see if i did it right and in fact they the pictures do appear in the preview but not in the actual message

HTML is not allowed for forum code, but it is for signatures.
