a = b

(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)
(a+b) = b
a+a = a
2a = a
2 = 1

Error

a^2 = a*b
a^2-b^2 = a*b-b^2
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)

Middle line would be a*b - a*b = a*b - a*b, since a = b, and a^2 = b*a = b^2. You get zero. The equation is still equal.

I have no idea how you're getting to the next line.

It's a joke...most people can't figure out the problems with it.

And actually the only problem with it is...

(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)
(a+b) = b

Because a = b, so (a-b) = 0, and dividing both sides by 0 is impossible.

Wow. I really hope this guy is joking, because what he's saying is a load of steaming cr@p. "Long string" and "football" planets in our solar system? Our solar system obeys the laws of physics and gravity. There are NO planets that look like cubes ANYWHERE. Of course, planets are not perfectly sherical either: they are always wider around the equator than would be expected due to rotation (think of a round ball being slightly squished, and you get the picture).

Us wannabe astronomers don't usually go around making cr@p up just for the sake of it.

How planets and moons form...

Cube planets are naturally impossible.

Division of Zero is a negative infinite, or paradox.

Think of division as a repeated subtraction (i.e. divide 11 by 5, 5 can be subtracted twice, which leaves a remainder of 1 the divisor is subtracted until the remainder is less than the divisor). But, if zero is the divisor, repeated subtraction of zero will never yield a remainder less than zero. Dividing by zero using repeated subtraction results in a series of subtractions that wont end.

Basicly imagine this;

You and I are in the kitchen, and I hand you a plate full of apples. I ask you to go into the living room and hand each person an apple until everyone but you has an apple. And you are not to return until there are fewer apples on the plate then when I sent you out.

Now, imagine there was nobody in the living room. What would you do? There is nothing you could do, short of telling me to piss off.

What he said. Plus, on the Internet...

...black hole pops up when someone tries to divide by zero. Just search for 'divide by zero' in google images.

Yes, planets can be shaped differently than sphere's. Most celestial objects that form while in a molten state form into spheres, yes, but collisions afterwards can deform them into various objects. Several of the asteroids in the Belt are Football shaped, as well as at least one of Mars' moons. Cubed planets or moons seem entirely possible after billions of years of damage.

I haven't found a single cube planet yet.

Then again, I've only ever encountered one storybook planet ever. And I even have the Spore Addict achievement. ;~;

All of the "oddly" shaped celestial objects are planetoid size or smaller, sa Phobos and Demios, which are potato shaped. There is a size limit, above which, an object will be more-or-less spherical. Granted, no planet is PERFECTLY spherical, due to rotational intertia and tidal effects, but there are no football-shaped planets.

(Edit: Oh, and astronomy was my minor and part of my work-program in college. Thx. )

congrats on not keeping up with current research and probably sucking in college.
