about the the surviving sentience thing you would have to add in pollution and possible chemical waste which will harm your health and the mutation will cause either good things or bad thing such as extra limbs or radiation in the civilazation stage people will fire nukes at other cities and there will be areas were there is radiation and it could leak into the forest and species will die plants will disappear and there will be animal bodies scattered out and force you to relocate also i sighned

Say you want level five jump, but you don't like the toadening foot, You hide toadenings in your creature, but it looks stupid when you walk and you lose DNA and complexity. My idea is you buy the abilities with the DNA and you unlock parts. This way, you can have your favoite foot and level five jump. You use complexity points to but the parts. But you need certain parts to have certain abilities.

Dance: Feet.
Sing: A mouth.
Pose: Hands.
Charm: A charm part

Strike: Hands or a strike part
Spit: A spit part
Charge: horns/antlers.
Bite: a mouth.

Sprint: A sprint part or feet.
Glide:Wings.
Jump: Wings or feet,
Sight: Eyes.
Graspers: Hands
Sneak: A sneak part or feet.
