I dont really understand what the sporecast thing is? is it like forecast like what the weather will be or is it something different?

A sporecast is a "grouping" of content picked by players. If you "subscribe" to a sporecast, the content in this group is more likely to appear in your game. I subscribed to a "cartoon characters" sporecast and met the Daffy Duck race in my game (the voice was...eerie!).

Making sporecasts is pretty easy, that is, once they fix the sporepedia up. I'm looking forward to sporecasts based on plants.

Without subscribing to a sporecast, is there anyway to download a specific creation from one that we might like a lot?

Just right click on the creature you want to download and save it's png file into your My Spore folder in your Documents folder. (:

Will I be able to modify it should I wish to to fit my tastes? I saw one earlier tonite that caught my fancy, but I wanted it with a different paint job.

Yep. If you share it though, it'd probably be nice to credit the original design to the original creator.

In other games in which I can modify someone else's creation, I do credit where I got the original. As a matter of fact:
