An updated version of Spore, Creepy & Cute (C&C), and Galactic Adventures (GA) has been released. This new version is required to access online functionality in-game.
There are no new features or notable changes, this update is purely to allow continued access to the Spore servers.
Getting the Update
MaxisBazajaytee wrote:Like a lot of Internet-based media, Spore uses encryption to ensure credentials sent to our servers are managed securely. The encryption certificates used by the game servers and clients that Spore has used since it launched in 2008 are being updated. Due to the way encryption certificates work the game servers and clients must be updated simultaneously.
This update is available for free to everyone who owns Spore. If you download and install Spore after today, you will already have the latest version of the game.
If Spore is already installed, you must first uninstall it, as previous versions of Spore cannot be updated by Origin. Backup your saved data (click for instructions)
, and then uninstall Spore and all expansions.
, login with the EA Account you used to purchase/activate Spore. Spore will be available for download, it will be the latest version.
C&C and GA can be installed after the base game. Note that C&C can be found under Spore's Extra Content section, it is not a separate item in your Origin library. If you have installed GA, you should always launch the game through GA (not the base game).
If you cannot find Spore or expansions in your Origin library, go here: http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/86123.page
Steam & Good Old Games
The latest version of the game will automatically be downloaded and installed. Once the game updates, no further action is required.
Optionally, you can obtain a free Origin copy with the instructions here: http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/86123.page
DVD & Other
Other versions do not have a way to update. You can obtain a free Origin copy with the instructions in the following link, and then follow the instructions above to install from Origin: http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/86123.page
There is no need to re-purchase the game from Origin, if you have proof of purchase (ideally the 20 character product code). Contact EA Support if you require further assistance activating the game.
Checking your Spore version
If you need to check if you have the latest version of Spore, open the following two folders (location may vary depending on how Spore was installed):
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Spore\Sporebin
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Spore Galactic Adventures\SporebinEP1
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Spore\Sporebin
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Spore Galactic Adventures\SporebinEP1
In both folders, there should be a SporeApp application file (this is the actual Spore application). Right-click this file, and click Properties. Go to the Details tab. In the list, you will see "File version". If the numbers match here, you have the latest version of Spore.
This number can also be found in the version text file, which should be right next to SporeApp.
Spore File version 126.96.36.199
Galactic Adventures File version 188.8.131.52
