Yes, this project is still very much alive, but not on this thread, I'm afraid. A long time ago, the project moved to its own forum, The Life in Algol Forums, whereon I am known as TemporalV01D. Check it out there.
Right now, we need Wiki editors, cartographers and artists more than anything else. I will hand my login details over to my good friend Xeno (Xenologist in this incarnation) if he would like to update the OP on the project's behalf.
