Say that your just in spacestage, cruising around, when you suddenly notice a little tribal planet. You fly over the planet, and you might fry and few villigers and such, and decide to leave a monolith before you leave, uplifting thier species. What exactly would those tribal people thinks of you? Would they perhaps even worship you, creating myths and statues of you and your technology?

Some people seem to think this type of situation actually happened on earth, in what is called the "ancient alien theory". These guys prupose that many of our ancient structures and religions are based on alien visitation. After seeing a few episodes of the shows of "Ancient Aliens" on history channel, I was wondering what your thoughts were on the subject. Stories of gods who came from the sky, uplifted humanity, and then left, promising to return. An example is the mesopotamian gods called the Annunaki, whose name translates to "those who cae from the heavens"

Giant flying devices in Indian stories called Vimana, which have powers and abilities attributed to modern weapons and UFOs

so, Do you think we were visited by aliens? Or is the theory proposed by these guy lunacy? I personally find a few of these things somewhat convincing, but think there are more reasonable explanations for much of what they propose on the show. However, I'm only one opinion, and the odds of a civilization far more advanced than us out there are good.

I think it is totally possible.

To be honest, we know very little of space. If some form of alien creature/being decided to make a drive-by and suddenly be remembered by our ancestors, I wouldn't be surprised.

Really, it is just a matter of time before we find aliens. We can't be absolutely alone in this universe, now can we?

Also, anybody else think the Nasca lines picture looks like a chameleon mutated with a monkey?

Ancient Aliens. It was a nice theory before History channel took some crack and made a show about it. I would say its likely we have been visited in the past but there is still no actual proof. The things those guys find are normal human made artifacts but they come up with their interpretations of it. For example. One of the episodes of that ancient aliens show they tried to figure out what this one thing was. They proposed it to be an alien vacuum cleaner. Joking I am not, if theres a link to it somewhere on youtube I would post it.

Like I said before, it seems only logical we have been visited in the past, but not quite in the way the theory has evolved into. Thanks history channel!

I think it's all just a coincidence.

I have yet to see a shred of evidence suggesting that aliens ever came here. Ancient people told stories of all sorts of absurd things (read a mythology book sometime) that had no grounding in reality but made great campfire tales.

If they did come they didn't leave any technology so they're jerks anyway.

Yeah. And IF aliens visited, how come every "God" Is depicted as either human or partially human?

It is completely impossible to say.

However, there is the fact that any alien space suit which belonged to a race that could get here from light years away would not be a clunky 20th century style model.

Anything alien would be nothing like anything modern. That is almost certain. We are not even close to inter-solar travel - by the time we are, if we ever are, many of our more advanced technologies will be very different, much more refined.

Also remember the human race is very creative and "coming from the heavens" and "special blood lines" make good stories.

Still, it is true that most religions involve or contain powerful creatures who dwell above the earth. I would need more proof either way to make a definite opinion.

Oh, and likely most aliens that could get here could disguise themselves to look like us. We already do it to them in bad movies.

There is no explanation for being able to completely shift forms as a disguise.

It's a bird. Birds come from "the heavens."

I don't think the guy's theories are "total lunacy," but there are many, many more explanations than his. Remember Ockham's razor - the simplest solution is usually the right one.

But can we make ourselves look like another species?

From a distance, sure. The closer you get the less effective the illusion is.

I don't know about the Nasca lines or the gods but the others are interesting. I find it possible. Though if there were ancient aliens I'd have to wonder would be staying away from us now.

Impossible. It's absolutely ridiculous that people can think that aliens can come to these ancient civilizations, help them, and then the people don't draw them, or their ships, or anything that hints that there was alien influence. And the conspiracists that think that aliens helped make the pyramids and other landmarks are crazy also. They used lots and lots of slaves. Period.
