You people are so desperate for free content from Maxis that you take three lines of code and smile.

Primarily because we've stopped playing at this point. I didn't even know about these abominations until I ran across someone mentioning them in another discussion. I'd seen this thread, but I thought it was someone brainstorming.

Have to admit, I AM thoroughly disgusted at the idea.

If you've seen pictures of Chris' head, you'd understand where Maxis got the idea.

Ooh, that was probably over the line... Where's the strikeout format in this forum?

There is none?

Okay, how about you all just imagine that sentence has a strikeout.

One good thing about cube planets... They were free. But would be nice if they were not also mandatory... Like customization keeps being a no-no... but free is cool. They shuck, all right...

all of you wannabe astronomers go read something about planet formation. there are plenty of planets out there which look like cubes (of course not as perfectly shaped as the planets in spore, but no planet out there looks as good as the perfectly round planets in spore eitehr). there are all kinds of shapes out there, even long strings. (most of the weird looking ones come from 2 massive objects colliding. we even have an "american" football in our solar system)

Manage to form a cube from matter rotating in space and I'll give you Nobel prize.

All of the "oddly" shaped celestial objects are planetoid size or smaller, sa Phobos and Demios, which are potato shaped. There is a size limit, above which, an object will be more-or-less spherical. Granted, no planet is PERFECTLY spherical, due to rotational intertia and tidal effects, but there are no football-shaped planets.

(Edit: Oh, and astronomy was my minor and part of my work-program in college. Thx. )

You know if they just advertised the game as a silly thing for kids instead of the ultimate science simulator, none of this backlash would be happening. But then they wouldn't have our $50 would they?

Next patch: Pyramid planets!

Now, what if they applied this to the creature, tribe, and civ stages? If you lived on a cube planet, would you fall of the edge if you went too far? Would gravity be weaker on edges and corners, enabling you to jump higher?

Oh, and I suppose next patch they'll have us dividing by zero as well.

CRUSH.

The story so far:
In the beginning, the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people mad and been widely regarded as a bad idea.

It would appear we have an image hater in our midst...my image has been disabled or something. (It was Earth in the shape of a cube)

That and 2 equals 1

a = b
a^2 = a*b
a^2-b^2 = a*b-b^2
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)
(a+b) = b
a+a = a
2a = a
2 = 1

a = b
a^2 = a*b
a^2-b^2 = a*b-b^2
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)
(a+b) = b
a+a = a
2a = a
2 = 1

Error

a^2 = a*b
a^2-b^2 = a*b-b^2
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)

Middle line would be a*b - a*b = a*b - a*b, since a = b, and a^2 = b*a = b^2. You get zero. The equation is still equal.

I have no idea how you're getting to the next line.
