The problem is not the idea of the Grox, how they are different and alien, warlike, it was how it was implemented and the little options you have to deal with them. In the end it just comes to one repetitive task, wipe them out planet by planet.

I don't think you missed much Michlo, but I guess if you had no idea it would kinda suck. But I don't think it would make any difference at all. Spoiler tag I guess would been nice.

if there was a solution that wasn't military

You know you can ally them. You don't even have to break the galactic code to do it. And you can still have allies afterwards.

- Which, of course, means terraforming the planet from scratch, because the Grox NEVER colonize anything above a T0.

While this is true, there are empty planets the Grox don't use and sometimes they are t>0

Edit: I mean near the center of the galaxy. But they are few.

Why does life always exist only in "t->1" planets? What if they evolved out of a gas planet or LIKES lava. They are robots that are allergic to the basics of life (like water, oxygen, stuff that make them rust?)!

Remember the Mycon from Star Control, who preferred it near the melting point of lead and who went around terraforming their enemies' planets into volcanic hells as their method of colonization? One of the best alien races from that classic game (SCII). So much character. To say nothing of the Ur'Quan, next to whom the generic Grox are a joke.

I just hate space because it almost completely nullifies the abilities your creature has and the only thing that carries over from your creation decisions is that small picture when you talk to a colony. (I don't count consequence abilities in this category) Oh and I don't really like not having a goal or a way to "win" but that is how maxis usually designs its games no?
I agree completely. Space destroys the whole concept of a continuity with the earlier stages or of any meaning to the creature you've created. It's just a customizable avatar at that point. Literally nothing more. Consequence abilities are completely trivial and do not count in this regard.

I could so imagine an expansion pack where you play spore on different environments. Such as a "lava" planet filled with lava creatures. Or ice planets with icey creatures. Edit: Not that this would really expand gameplay all that much, just mainly looks.

I loved the Mycon before I found out they were nuts. I loved the Ur'Quan too, it was the Korah that were evil D:<

It does rather suck as I had purposefully avoided all the spoiler threads on this. I know it isn't really the official "end" of the game but I was intending to make it so for mine. *sigh* Some people are just thoughtless.

Cheers.

At least they didn't tell you the item is called the Staff of Life, it has 42 uses, and it's given to you by a guy named Steve. That would have really ruined it.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Spoiler alert.

Did anyone in this thread mention to the OP that she doesn't need to have a place to repair, she just needs to bring a ton of repair and energy packs.

And no allies, and no auto-turret, and you're good to go. (So I hear.)

Read, commented.

The problem is that Spore has become a coloring book instead of a chemistry set

I thought it was genius that the Grox live ONLY on dead planets. Terraforming them prevents the Grox from living there, so a good galaxy-gardener just so happens to lock the Grox out of an ever-growing series of planets! What a cool Yin/Yang thing. Combat them by eco improvement.
