But I do think the stages are too clear cut, you should sort of merge out of one and into another without sudenly progresing in seconds like you do currently. (creature to tribe is a good example: running around in a pack and all of a suden you have tools and huts.)

Different animal classes
I like plasmacids idea alot but thought this could be an alternative better suited to the game. These are two example more will be coming shortly.
Reptile
-Moves normally but can move at lighting speed at some time.=sprint 3
-Does not need much food=has digestive sytem 4
-Has "heat meter" that is filled by basking in the sun, without this you move very slowly, and lose health=perk
-In your child stage your on your own=perk
-has distinct reptile parts=must have atleast three reptile class parts
-has scales=perk
-lays eggs=perk
Mammal
-Does not need a heat meter=perk
-In your child stage your mother takes care of you.=perk
-Needs much food=digestive system 2
-has fur=perk
-gives birth(it can just show a cut scene where the female is pregnant and then skip to the baby stage=perk
-has specific mammal parts=must have atleast 3 mammal class parts
-mother provides food in child stage(milking)=perk
-child stage is longer=perk
-has minimal speed=sprint 1

Explanation: perk isn't a requirement simply a bonus you get for having completed a requirement.

I sign. Your ideas are awesome, especially the underwater stuff. A few contributes.

Elaborate underwater stuff, preferably a space captain able to dive underwater, or living underwater, rather than a bunch of fish and kelpz. Fine idea though.

Basically, underwater GA stuff.

Amphibian
-Can avoid the sea monster=perk
-Can submerge in water=perk
-Swims double speed in water=perk
-Has a "moisture meter" that needs to be filled in water, or you lose health=perk
-Needs water to breed-perk
-Needs average food=digestive system(or stomach)3
-has unique mouths,legs,feet,graspers=must have 3 different amphibian parts.
-can breath water in child stage and air in adult stage=must have lungs and gills
-has slimy smooth skin.
-has heat meter but it decreases very slowly due to water tempeture but must visit a warm water current occasionaly and will rapidly decrease if it hits a cold water current. During Adult stage on land must use the physical ability "bask" to rejuvinate it's heat levels. It will decrease faster on land.

Fish
-Is submerged in water permanently=perk
-Can swim double speed instead of sprint=sprint 4
-Cannot go out of water=perk
-Avoids sea monster=perk
-Needs below average food=digestive sytem(or stomach)4
-has smooth yet scaly skin=perk
-breathes water=gills
-has unique mouths,legs,feet,graspers(must be added)=must have 3 different fish parts
-has heat meter but it decreases very slowly due to water tempeture but must visit a warm water curren occasionaly and will rapidly decrease if it hits a cold water current=perk

How bout this:
Bird:
- can avid the sea monster+perk
- Has nest in trees=perk
- needs much food
- has feathers
- For flight it has a mesure of exhaustion, as it can fly till it tires, then needs to eat

I was thinking more along the lines of

Bird
-Can fly=wings 4
-has an exaustion meter=perk
-Nest in trees or ground=perk
-Moves fast=sprint 4
-Needs above average food=digestive system(and stomach 3) 2
-has feathers=perk
-has unique mouths,graspers,feet,arms=must have atleast three different bird parts
-has nor heatmeter=perk
-mother takes care of you for half of child stage=perk
-lays eggs=perk
-can use the ability "air dive"=perk

Explanation:
air dive would be an attack from the air that animal doesn't see coming and will temporarily stun the animal while dealing damage, however you must be a certain hight in order to do so and it has a slightly more than normal recharge time.
