Now I can't open SPORE.

It starts to open....flickers on...off...then...no go.

I am looking through the FAQ but i think the patch error JUST came into being today.

Supposing...it will be fixed in coming day or so????

Gonna try and be patient.

Any answers or suggestions would be terrific.

I am on a MacBook Pro....2008 late spring model.

Patch 4 does not install automatically when I launch SPORE or GA. When I click on the link on my member page that says patches are available, it downloads the EADM patch for Windows - I'm on a Mac.

So how do I get the thing and install it?

Thanks, Newkk

Don't install patch 4... your game stops working (when ever I started spore with patch 4 it crashed then asked me to de-bug.)

Hey out there folks, sounds like there's not a lot of help from above on Mac issues. I have to ask anyway. I just installed the patch on my iMac and now Spore won't even open. I've tried it several time, and all I can seem to do is report the issue to Apple, like it's their job to fix it. Anybody have a clue what I should do. I don't want to reinstall Spore if it's gonna kick out all my creations. Anybody have a clue about that? Cheers all.

NO no no... it wont delete ANY of your saves. I reinstalled and i was actually suprised to see that nothing changed(i still had all of my creations, planets, saved datas) so, i recommend reinstalling but AVOIDING the 4th update!!!

(i guess you should not delete "my creations" folder though, but i cant remember so you better ask someone else... or read a topic about how to reinstall but keep your saves)

So - for those of us who purchased the download and no longer have the installer, where can we get it? I DO have my activation code....

I got this game when it first came out, and I can now finally play it with all the patches on!

I'm not sure if my situation happens to others, but I may as well say how I made it work.

At first I always had the "files have been modified, please reinstall" message. Then I started getting the exception messages.

After unsuccessfully uninstalling and reinstalling several times, and going through all the different uninstall methods listed here....I still wasn't having any luck.

But after a while I noticed that I usually downloaded all the patches in one sitting. I also noticed that sometimes, during the patching it would start eating away at my hard drive space (I still have no idea why). But by the time it got to the last patch, it would start giving me warnings about low disk space. It never aborted the installation and would always finish the installation. It just would never run afterwards. So I figured, maybe that low disk space was messing up the patching.

The thing was, I know I wasn't actually low on hard drive space. And whenever I rebooted, 10gb would suddenly be back and ready to be used.

So my solution was this:
Download each patch, run Spore, exit Spore, and restart computer. Wash and repeat for every patch. Download/install, restart.

And finally at the last one, it just started running perfectly.

So I'm not sure if this is specific to my computer, but just in case this is happening to someone else, I thought I'd let you know.

I just bought Spore... 2 weeks ago for my mac... now I haven't kept up with all these posts and I have tried Scanning through them, but I cant even get the updater to complete iPatch gets 96% complete and dies. I have no Patches and my game is fresh off the shelves. I read all the BS going on and I would like to patch my game still, but iPatch wont finish... It just hangs/ It downloads and starts patching, but hangs and dies at 96% patched. what can I do? also the game I have been Playing for the past 2 weeks died. game is pre-patch. I deleted a charactor from sporepedia on a planet in space stage with 5% left in the stage and it saved my game, when I try to re-enter my game I get a Unhandled Exeption.... and my space ship is inside the planet. I cant leave the planet, cant use shaman cant go into the planet because the game crashes (that's why I am hoping to patch? any ideas please I'm really pissed... Frustrated and Sad....

This worked for me ...

Go to your Spore preferences folder, which is buried at Users\User Name\Library\Preferences\SPORE Preferences\p_drive\User\Application Data\Spore\Preferences/ and delete the login.prop and preferences.prop. Actually delete all prop files you find, such as ytlogin.prop, if you have one.

I'm told by those more knowledgable than me that the Preferences folder structure is so bizarre because it uses a Windows-based scheme. I've also been told that EA's interest in and support for Mac is haphazard at best and non-existent in most cases. This saddens me.

Well this is what I did to fix my problems.I had this posted in another thread, but its not sticky, I thought I would put it here because I wanted to help.

I was getting permission's problems when I was trying to instill the 4th patch and this is how I fixed that.
(Actually I think this should fix any sort of permissions issues with any game, if you do it with that particular game's contents.)

How to fix Permissions
1. Go into your Applications and find Spore
2. Click on it and choose Show Package contents
3. Click on it and choose Get info (on the "contents" folder)
4. Under Sharing & Permissions, unlock, put in password, and change all privileges to "Read & Write".
5. Click the sprocket/gear thing and click "Apply to enclosed items"

When I did this I was able to get through the patch loader with no problems. (I ended up having more problems but this is how I fixed this one)

Then I couldn't get SPORE to load. I would click the app and it would do its bouncy thing and then just close. The solution I found this problem might end up being a kind of general fix all, but I'm not going to make any guarantees.

General Fix All for SPORE (Special thanks to NextToGone!!))
1.Move all game data to desktop.
2.Do a COMPLETE uninstall of SPORE. (I used the free AppCleaner app). Just tossing it into your regular trashcan will not do a complete uninstall.
3.Reinstall Spore and all the patches. (You'll need to registration code)
4.Moved back game data into their folders. (I did this by file and not by folder. I just wanted to be sure.)
IMPORTANT! Be sure that when you do the complete uninstall you don't accidentally delete the game data you moved to your desktop!

The files I moved onto my desktop were the My Spore Creations folder located in My Documents and the Games folder which is...really hidden deep in the Spore. The pathway is users/(whatever your username is)/library/preferences/SPORE preferences/p_drive/user/application data/spore/Games

You can find AppCleaner here http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32740
Once you have AppCleaner installed, put the SPORE app icon into AppCleaner's trash can and follow the direction. ^_^
Be sure to unselect the files that you have moved to your desktop, it will try to delete those.

I hope all this info can help someone else...I kind of just had to just mix and match stuff in different threads until I figured out my own problem.

Hello Karazypher,

Thanks for writing up this up! I hope more of our Mac users will follow your lead and make the effort to help each other find solutions. I know that the Mac support has been sorely lacking in comparison to PC Help, but people have to realize that both Help Forums are run by the players (Maxis rarely assists EITHER forums). The sad state of Mac Help won't change until us players step up to the plate.

I have added your solution to the Mac FAQ.
