I haven't see this tip posted before, so here it goes:

I managed to export a Spore spaceship to 3D Max through Collada. It's weird how it works.

The ship.

The ship in the Creature Editor.

The ship in 3D Max.

Test texture.

If you export it from the Creature Editor (using Sporehack) only one part of the ship is actually exported (with everything that is attached to it) to a Collada .dae file.

If you delete that exported part and re-export the ship (no need to save), another part of the ship is exported.

Symmetrical parts are exported asymmetrically, delete the side exported using the "A" key and re-export again.

Rinse and repeat until all parts are imported into 3D Max (I have not tested this using other 3D programs) and you have your ship in Max.

The original texture is not exported/imported. I wish there was a way to do it and also a simpler way to get ships outside of Spore. I will test this method with buildings and other vehicles. I believe it will work.

Interesting tip. I may try it out.

Finally someone managed to get this working properly! I tried something similar before but I never thought to export it one part at a time like this, so I never got very far. Props to you for figuring this out!

I hope you guys will find it useful.

I've confirmed that buildings and other vehicles work as well as I posted here http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/74580.page with some pictures.

Oh my god.

This is exactly what I needed to know. Note to self, find Sporehack and use it with great vengeance.

Cool.

Noob question: What would you guys do with the models once you get them?

Animating and modelling are the most obvious answers.

If you fragment and de-smooth a lot you could eventually get them into Minecraft or something...

Oh, okay. I would love to mess around with the models.

I concur. This fact shall help me greatly with my own projects.

I now no longer need to fear recreating Spore vehicles in 3DS Max.

That. Is. Awesome.

I wonder if you can get the model to export to modo? (Another modeling program.)

I'm making a tentative return.

Interesting...

Though, I think I'm fine making starships in the captain outfitter.

Thats nice and all but I use a mac, and if you used a windows hack to get the ship parts into the creature editor... then can I get the same for mac somewhere?

also I find I can't import to zbrush with .dae files, so if anyones knows a converter (to .Obj) that would be really helpful.

so basically:

How did you get the ship into the creature editor?

And can it be converted into .Obj?

Most 3d modeling programs out there lets you import your png files in them to view them in 3d. Because most 3d modeling programs are like the art program or photo program view able and can read the creations because they are an image.

By the looks of the spacecraft image it is not a hack at all. Someone created it using the freedom cheat in the editor. It can easily be made in spacecraft editor. Where it supposed to be created in the first place in the right category.

Spore is up to originally up to 4 discs.
1.C&C: Spore creature creator starter kit (disc)
2.Spore (disc)
3.Spore Creepy & Cute expansion (disc)
4.Spore galactic adventure expansion (disc)
Note: I know what all made it to an actual retail disc. (Yes I do keep track of what comes out)
what not made it to disc?
-extended limb
-Spore botz expansion
-Darkspore parts expansion

If you can't respect me. I can not respect you. (Agreed)

But to export it I have to build it in creature editor by using the freedom cheat?
