I don't likee the Grox, so this is what I would do.
First, arm your ship with every gun possible (make sure they're big). Also, bulk up on health packs, aoe repairs, (by the way, make sure you have a fleet) , colony incredi-paks, energy packs, etc. Don't just go in and attack the Grox, my way is a process. Next, make some allies around the core, make sure they are near the Grox. Ask them to attack the Grox at Planet X. Do this multiple times around the rim of their territory. If you do this enough, you'll not only make lots of friends, but possibly peel away part of the Grox blockade.
Okay, now for the hard part. First fly into Grox territory a little. Find an unclaimed planet, set up a colony there, and use it as one of your base of operations. After healing yourself and your allies, continue forward. Repeat this process until you have a string of colonies heading straight to the core. Enter the core, watch the cutscene, and get the Staff of Life. Carve out a sizable chunk of their empire starting at the core using the staff, colonize these planets, and keep them running. They will be your new empire. Forget the old one, use this one now. Keep fighting the Grox through terraforming, bombs, and asking allies to hurt them.

That's all I've got for now. Hope it helped!

Terraforming their planets is probably the most effective solution. Just bring Energy Mega Packs and Repair Mega Packs and you should be all right.

Current Sig Count: 4, I guess?

1. copy setConsequenceTrait space_zealot

2. paste it into the cheat menu ( ctrl-shift-c)

3.use the new tools to get the whole solar system, use it on one planet and all the other inhabited planets will turn into your colony.

4. paste it into the cheat menu and repeat.

I should have a full guide on how to destroy the Grox in a few days, I'm very close to destroying them.

Imagine this image 17 times, that's how much I've done so far. There's also a let's play on this. Currently I've done about 175 parts (20 minutes each), 47 parts are on Youtube here. (Destruction starts at 66)
