I've been kicking around the idea of doing a team-based combat adventure for a while now. But what I'd like to know is if you'd all be interested in playing such an adventure. Vote in the poll?

Well, before we make props, we need to figure out how the heck we'd make it work in the first place!

But yeah, community involvement is a great idea, so long as everything's more or less consistent. I MAY hold a contest for NPC-making at some point.

Team combat adventures haveprobably been done before, although I haven't seen a tf2 one yet. (That doesn't mean they aren't out there)

If it actually looked like tf2, then yes, i would play it.

I can make props if anyone needs them. Probably not creatures, though. Buildings or vehicles, sure.

I'd personally prefer Modern Sporefare, but considering that the adventure editor has its limits, the two would probably wind up being very similar.

In my opinion, Team Fortress is WAY better than modern warfare, but everyone's entitled to their opinion, so let's not start an arguement.

Anyways, you're probably right because there can be no change in graphics, or gameplay really. The only real change between the two would be setting and props used. Also, you can't create custom weapons. Most of the challenge of either adventure would be lost due to the stupid "always hit" weapons that Spore has.

Adventure PROBABLY wouldn't be exactly like TF2 for various reasons:
1. You're only limited to having 1 pre-selected captain (pre-defined captains are rather important to a GA like this), therefore class selection is not possible without multiple releases (not the best of ideas)
2. There's no respawn mechanic for the player, therefore the player couldn't be a regular class, but rather a sort of "team captain", if you get my drift.
3. Most of the game's classes wouldn't be possible for various reasons (improper equipment, improper behavior definition, etc, etc), therefore they would have to be replaced.

The upshot? That leaves everything open to interpretation. So expect something vaguely like a TF2-type game, but still very distinct from it.

Apparently, there's a spy around here, and two heavies like their sandviches

I know. Wouldn't it be cool if we could program adevtures so they could play like an FPS, platformer, or other game forms? That would add at lot more depth to GA.

I will admit, though, despite what I previously said, TF2's cartoony asthetic would probably be more fun to create in spore than MW2's realistic one.

I've seen people using player captains that basically consist of two floating arms and feet in order to simulate an FPS perspective in gameplay.

It doesn't seem the most practical thing to do, seeing that zooming the camera incorrectly would instantly break the illusion.

I have never played TF2 or any of them, and I like Halo more, but this seems like a pretty cool idea.

Hrm.

The biggest problem is pathfinding. You need create seperate walls/ceilings/etc or open areas because otherwise creatures are just gonna get stuck.

The best way to keep the theme is to have easily-socialisable characters with specific roles and 3 semi-open slots. You could even have more complex roles through scripting (ie. messenger bugs that set off a landmine when they see a demo-dood come into range) to blow a scripted hole in a wall. This'd stop the player bringing additional uber-creatures and would let the player replace dead allies.

NPC's would need to be spawned location specific otherwise they're just not gonna pathfind to where they're needed - they'll get stuck for sure.

That's exactly the problem: it simulates it. I'm talking about being able to program an adventure so it behaves like a first-person or third-person shooter with aiming, reloading, and so on.

It'll probably never happen, but it would be so awesome if it did.
