Must say, crab people are vicious.
I can see them do it.

At what page did you stop reading your science textbook? =p

Planets form by debris falling into the growing gravity well in a protoplanetary disk. Since the material falling onto the growing body is coming pretty much from random directions in 360 degrees it falls into a fairly even spherical pattern. Not quite perfect, but planets arn't perfect spheres.

As the structure gets bigger and the gravity it holds gets stronger it tends to pull the higher points downhill; ie. under gravity. (Imagine a ball of water the size of a planet, gravity would ensure it's a *perfect* sphere since it has no structural cohesion). Inside, planets are mostly liquid thus there is a physical limit to how tall a mountain can be before it sinks back into the planet's lithosphere.

A cubic planet could be made artifically with a lot of difficulty, but that's getting away from the original point =p

Uggh. That movie was a bigger disappointment than EA's release of Spore.

Primarily because we've stopped playing at this point. I didn't even know about these abominations until I ran across someone mentioning them in another discussion. I'd seen this thread, but I thought it was someone brainstorming.

Have to admit, I AM thoroughly disgusted at the idea.

The problem is that Spore has become a coloring book instead of a chemistry set

Will there be a menu option to turn them off?

If not, I need to bring up a long-standing quote:

I have not seen one yet but they do look pretty cool. I think it is a nice little addition for a free patch.

I personally have lost all water on my planets (they are now land), except when i use a terraforming tool, which magically makes it come back, but when I reload, it goes away again! The patch should have fixed this...

I've observed the opposite. A lot of my planets have been really "interesting" to place colonies on since the patch. They're about 80% water! I'll have to take a screenshot of one of my waterworlds.
