I think the Grox definitely evolved early on and that is how they've come to terrorize the rest but because they evolved early on, they were able to visit other planets while the other planets were in creature stage, in order to set little things to make them seem Spode-Like.

So countless creatures on planets evolved to believe there was a Spode, however by the time they became space faring, the Grox were no longer interested in a Spode-like worship and merely wanted the other intelligent creatures of the universe that had made it thus far to cower in fear and so they started warfare amongst the stars. Unrecognizable to the lowly creatures that managed to make it outside of their solar system as the visitors they had grown up thinking of as Spode.

But you see, life was given by the universe so the true Spode is Spode, and Steve is the Messenger of Spode, a displaced being with far more knowledge than it is advisable to attain and likely pre-dating the Grox because they weren't smart enough to get that far into the center of the Spode.

Do I make any sense at all?
The Grox always hated Spode(God) because Spode betrayed them. The Grox couldn't have taught other species about Spode because none of the scrolls say anything good about The Grox. Steve(Christ) and Spode sent messages to species about Spode and the scrolls/blocks/etc. were created. The False God That Will Come is satan or the devil.

The spode thing is probably just a widely accepted religion in the Universe.

There was aMortimer trend developing, but I haven't heard much since. | Respect, stick together, endeavour. We have a capacity for individuality, which is to be respected. However, when there are serious issues, when we all have a common thread, this is what makes us a civilization & not a game of monopoly.

I like this arguement.

Spode, Spodism and Spodists are the most popular religious icons in Spore. My theory is that the word of Spode is spread by Zealots to new empires or pre-space civs, converting them and growing the religion. But anyway...

First, there are other religions in Spore. In the Civ stage, religious civs worship something called The Source (they mention it a lot in the comms), which is guessed by a lot of people to be either:

1. The meteorite that brought your cell to the planet.

2. A crashed spaceship on every homeworld that probably gives you the technology headstart.

There are other theories, but this shows there are more than one religion.

Shamans DO have a 'religion', but it is very similar to Buddism, so they don't mention a God as such. Just achieving Harmony with the universe.

Zealots (worshippers of Spode) talk about 'The False God That Will Come'. I now quote from Spore Wiki (this one I agree with entirely):

"The God That Will Come is the less prominent deity in the Space Stage. Followers of Spode despise this deity, and will immediately attack any of its followers. The only thing Zealots hate more than the "False" God That Will Come and its followers are the Grox. Shaman empires have made references to this god, mentioning that at least some of them worship it, and also suggest that the two religions are in conflict. "

See? There's another god other than Spode. You hear about this God in comms with Shamans and Zealots. Some missions with these two Archetypes will revolve around this, I now quote again:

"Very little is known about the God That Will Come and the religion surrounding it, other than that some members of Shaman empires follow it (as they mention in certain eradication missions). Zealot empires also mention the worship of the God That Will Come in their own eradication missions. In the latter case, the God's followers are violent extremists who try to kill the followers of Spode, although in the former case the roles are reversed. "

Shamans also talk about two other religions, I quote one final time:

"Shamans also mention two other religious orders that they seem to be on good terms with - the Savvy Zxxon Monks (whom they call if the player refuses to participate in an eradication mission) and the Teachers Who Are Still Loitering Around (to whom you may be asked to give various Treasured Items). It is not clear whether these are religious orders worshipping the God That Will Come, or ones following different belief systems entirely. "

To answer the question, Spore has more than one religion, but Spodeism is the most prominent, like Christianity in the real world.

It.... is.... a... game....

If you haven't figured out how lacking in realism it is yet, you must've got a different game than me . Take it for the fun, humourous, cartoony thing it is, hehe. While we're at it, lets randomize the name of the resources, the major evil empire, and a few other things. Frankly, I'd rather have the devs concentrate on some of the more serious bugs first, then nit-pick with name generators .

Agreed. I thought its funny how all of them believe in spode, and they are killing others who do also. lol

MUAHAHAHA I JUST BLEW UP THAT PLANET!!! Oh wait, that was mine!!!
