I managed to get one down to almost 200 health points by spitting, but went to eat and lost track of it. When I found it again, it had completely healed. There seems to be a glitch that enables you in certain areas to spit and hit it, but it can't move away from the spot and you can hit it over and over. But the minute you leave your spot to eat, it releases and comes after you. I quit trying after that last frustrating episode.

It is indeed possible! (but no-one said it was easy)
Here's my proof...

http://users.qldnet.com.au/~bloodlust/upload/Spore_2008-09-27_22-13-49.jpg

It wandered near my nest.. everyone went crazy and started hitting it hard with me leading the way. It did take a LONG time and I lost 3 of my herd in the process (so we WERE taking damage), but when it toppled, thats where it landed. By the look of it, I think it's got quite low attack stats, which also helps explain why we weren't just slaughtered as usually happens. I have a strong feeling it's also because it was right next to my nest that we were able to do it, but I can't really confirm that. As I said, I lost 3 herd members in the attack, so we weren't invincible and bugging, but perhaps the nest auto-heal had something to do with it?

I would think to lure it to your nest so it can't hurt you and wait till it's hp is low enough and lure it away again and finish it off. make sure you have some extra health stuff like the jemite or bone parts and have some wings to get some distance between you and the Epic and have a lv.5 spit. I would have the spraypalm because it has both spit and health. Try and get in some thick trees or find some of those huge rocks. also it helps if you have some rouge allies with the same spit abilitie

I've never done this or ever will because it sounds like suicide. I tried once and I had a rouge and the epic killed me in one hit.

I did it the other night with my newest guys. I played on easy. But I didn't have any attack maxed I don't think...maybe one was 4. But did it at my nest. Too a while, died a lot , and my entire nest of guys were dead by the end but hey...it worked!

I did it a VERY long but simple way.

Lead the Epic into a bunch of trees, and it will get stuck. Attack with Lvl 5 Spit continuously. Sometimes the Epic gets out of the stuck area, so make sure you have wings so you can quickly escape. Make sure you keep him in your sights though, for if you go to far, he will receive full life again. Anyway, just get him stuck again and use spit again and again.
NOTE: You will start starving while fighting him. Ignore the starvation, unless your life goes below 5. It is smart to complete the creature stage, then find an epic and kill it, because your life is 100+.

The whole method for killing Epics seems flawed to me, its more like you're killing it via a glitch rather then an actual strategy.

(Luring it to the nest or getting it caught in trees, both ways seem more like a glitch over being an actual strategy)

I wish they would have come up with a better method to killing epics.

I have the "epic killer" achivement. it's not that hard really, it just takes some time and luck. i had a pack of three rouges, along with level 5 spit, glide, jump, and plenty of time to spare.

i got it stuck inbetween two rocks and spit at it. the epic failed to notice the rouges tearing it to pieces until it had 500 health left. i then spit... and spit... about 10 minutes later it was dead. got the achivement, and a save game where it has 5 health left, so i can kill the epic over and over when i feel like it...

random fact, the epic was MAXIS's "hornytoad"...

Smookyolo your signiture makes me a little sick, too fuzzy

the darkness is stronger, for you can only hold it off with a light but a light can be turned off, that's when the darkness returns.

darkness is faster, because no mater were the light travails the darkness is there first, and last.

dont let them die, click on them...plz

I managed to knock one over pretty quickly.

It looked like a giant rabbit - don't know how it became an epic cause it wasn't very scary or anything.

Just lured it back to the nest and sat behind all my nest-mates and spat at it. Must have been lucky enough to get the last blow in though

The epic creatures are determined randomly, just like the other creatures. As with all creatures, the game will use your own creations and the creations of friends more often in the random pool. It seems to lean more towards omnivores for Rogue creatures, and more towards carnivores for Epic creatures (this might even be a rule, i don't know).

If an epic is being particularly um evil in your game, you could save, exit to main menu, go to your downloads, and delete the creature from your game. Then it will get replaced randomly. I had an epic tarantula outside one of my cities on Civilization mode that kept "spitting" all of my economic vehicles into dissolved puddles of goo. Their economic setting meant that they couldn't fight the epic, and the spit of the epic meant they couldn't even drive past it. Eventually, I purchased a religious city, and left it as religious so I could create religious vehicles to charm the spider and lead it to an opposing city. I really wanted to delete the spider cuz it was such a pain, but it was so well designed that I also didn't want it deleted, yanno?

This is indeed possible. But it will take some time, and its not very easy either.

And that is proof, yes the yellow thing is the corpse, not the biggest epic ever.

anyway, thats how I did it, i know its possible to kill one.

Oh i see, I had tried level 5 spit on it too, but not at my nest only with my pack.
Maybe I'll try your way, how long did it take the epic to die?

Yeah, I got the guide too... impulse buy >.<

Anyway, it says to lead the epic into a bunch of trees, then use spit.

Haven't been able to successfully lead it into some though >.<
