has any other DUNE fans out there noticed some similarities?

SPICE! virtually the DUNE universe is run by the spice melange.......

the way you make money in space stage is dealing spice and harvesting it.
however, in DUNE, melange is found on only one planet: Arrakis.

i found a desert planet with spice geysers and was like WootSaucin all over the place! lol reminded me of DUNE

anywho just wondering if there were any DUNE fans among us and if you all noticed the spice similarities.

perhaps maxis received this idea from DUNE............

Spice is used in a ton of science fiction these days. The Dune series is a very influential one, you can see Dune refferences all over the place if you just look.

They took stuff from dozens of sources, including Dune and 2001 a Space Odysee.

Dune 7?

I remember Will mentioning in one of his many talks about Spore that they tossed in references to a number of science fiction stories. I'm sure the spice is no coincidence.

I played that Dune game from 2003-ish. Fun stuff, but I suck at it.

Ha ha, while I did play one of the Dune games and watched one of its movies, I still kind of wish the resource was something more sensible, like minerals, elements, or... energy?

But it is a small thing and I don't mind it too much.

Saw all of the films.

Made a melange refinery for a factory.
Check it out in the sporepedia.

I noticed the similarities. Kinda inspires me to make a planet look like arrakis. Too bad you need to place a few plants before you can place sand worms
