Did the Grox REALLY colonize solely T0 worlds? Really?
I was playing cautiously, avoiding the Grox, since the game came out; now I'm finally going after them, and finding it the opposite of fun.

I mean, c'mon...this, to me, says that Maxis KNEW they had craptacular gameplay and felt they could wring more out of the game by forcing us to terraform every Grox world we come across. I've played games like that...heck, I've MADE games like that (long story short, we were making a game for almost no money and didn't have much time to build it, so I was told to design my level such that the player had to retrace their steps multiple times--retrieving objects and unlocking doors, that kind of thing--rather than design a larger level) and that's just a completely cheeseball way to make a game!

Honestly, I'm quite close to just removing the game and never playing it again. Between being disappointed at shallow gameplay, the obnoxiousness of fighting the Grox, and the fact that getting to the core is a pain in the patoot because of the reduced travel-distance near the core, well...I'm tempted to simply wipe the game and find the end cut-scene on YouTube.
I mean, I'm stubborn as hell, and I know it; most people who know me at all well know it. It takes a LOT to make me give up on something...but Spore is managing it. It's just one "Oh, puh-lease!" moment after another with this game!

The problem is that Spore has become a coloring book instead of a chemistry set

It's the fact that you waited so long and were so excited that's stopping you? Or do you expect to find enjoyment if you keep trying?

I feel that no game is worth this much frustration and unhappiness. No need to keep subjecting yourself to something you don't enjoy!

I thought the point was self-evident, but let me elaborate, then:
- Ordinarily, the populated planets you run across are varied in T-level from T1 to T3, with the occasional T0 mixed in. No biggie; should you decide to conquer it, optimizing the planet afterwards is usually pretty quick and painless.
- The Grox, however, live on exclusively T0 planets, meaning that when you conquer one, you have to bring the environment up from scratch each and every single time. It's easier to just destroy their cities and move on.
- HOWEVER, because the Grox have essentially blockaded the core, coupled with the shorter travel range near the core, AND the fact that trying to get to the core usually involved being bracketed and shot at by Grox ships the whole way, you're essentially forced to stop and built a few colonies just to have somewhere to repair.
- Which, of course, means terraforming the planet from scratch, because the Grox NEVER colonize anything above a T0.
Conclusion: The Grox and the core were deliberately designed to be a pain in the butt. Note, I'm not blaming them for being challenging; I expect a challenge. No...I blame them for being tedious and rather less fun than, say, a challenge that didn't amount to frustrating busywork would have been.

It's the fact that you waited so long and were so excited that's stopping you? Or do you expect to find enjoyment if you keep trying?

Mostly the latter...though not 'expect'; hope.
I don't think it's there, though.

Nope, you don't. In fact, you actually can do anything you want.

How are you being forced to terraform grox planets? Bombs still work on their cities, they can capture yours but you cant take theirs though

Grox are just stupid, I cant kill them all or end the war and they attack my planets every few minutes. Game's not that great anyway. I made it to the core why can't they just leave me alone?

The space combat ruined the game for me. It takes too long and is boring.... not to mention it's a pain in the ass to target sometimes.

you know...

you dont have to terraform every planet you see.

i always thought it was rather cool that the grox could live on dead planets.
