Haha, i just read about a incident on these forums. that a mod threatend to actually ban people discussing the DRM secure rom. If this is the case, im disgusted. And to be honest,i dont really think they are allowed to ban you from playing the game for discussing something. and by doing this i believe thy could get in a LOT of trouble, by that i mean, lawsuits, loosing costumers etc etc and thats not good for EA is it? I dont have anything against Spore the game, but how the mods aparently treat the people who actually used money on this game is totally unacceptable.
i think thats all i wanna say for now.

Thanks for reading, thats my two cents.

Because most of the time, the threads aren't really discussing anything. And there's not really much the mods can say because it's not like they really have any legal ability to do so; they can really only say what's already been said or say nothing. Neither of which calms down some folks and would only add fuel to the fire. Some people are already so riled up that they're not willing to listen.

There's not really much to say at that this point anyway. You agree or disagree; you stop playing or you keep playing. Yelling at moderators isn't going to solve anything. And some people have too much misinformation, biased opinions and perceptions, or simply lack information.

More over, there's already an official thread about it that people seem to ignore. If people aren't willing to talk about it in a reasonable, intelligent manner in a constructive way in a place designed for it, what do you want the mods to do? They need to keep the community productive beyond merely DRM threads which can drown out more immediate concerns for people needing help, making suggestions, or otherwise discussing something.

As a tangent, lawsuits would be impossible; this is a private forum. Freedom of speech doesn't apply in a private place like a home, shop, or business.

Despite popular misconception, EA is not going to ban users from discussing DRM. They will enforce the rules as defined in the Terms of Service. As long as you are not breaking the rules, you're fine. And there is no rule against discussing DRM. Just be civil.

Secondly, EA is loosening the DRM a bit. They're increasing the number of machines you can install on to 5, to support an upcoming change wherein you will have access to 5 screen names under one account. At first, all five screen names will share the same galaxy, but have their own Sporepedia, Achievements, etc.. Later, they will each have their own galaxy. Next, they will implement a way that you can de-authorize a machine, so you can transfer install privileges to another machine. Good for upgrades.

This new DRM system will be implemented in the near future, though no known date has been set. The devs are busily working on this issue.

Keep in mind on a forum they have the right to ban whom they see as a threat to the well being of the community this community already has 13 year olds allowed to be on this forum hence why the negitive feedback is not well tolerated and in most cases gets locked.

and the Other post is right they are working on a new DRM because of the issue with the current ones that are seen to be a future problem making it hard to install later on with the current drm but the new one will remove all issues yes it is still strict but it is non the less EA and Maxis' right to have such things.

Not that im saying good or bad for or aganst it.Reason being i dont mind. It wont effect me because its the number of computers you can install it on and i will only ever need one of my installs. For others this may be an issue.

I believe the issue is not that someone would get banned from the forum, but that the moderator indicated it would lock down their Spore account across the board, and the banned user would have to buy a new copy of the game.

What I don't think he realized is that anyone banned like that would not only NOT go buy a new copy of the game, but they would also never buy another EA or Maxis game again.

Where is this thread with the moderator threatening to ban? All I have is your interpretation. Maybe you misunderstand the matter or I should agree with out. I can't know without reference.

(I am not sure why EA didn't include de-authoring in the first place. I don't think there would be hardly any or any back lash to the DRM if they had done this one thing in the first place. And it is silly they didn't see this before.)

My converstation with my homeworld:
"Hello space command."
"Yes?"
"I think maybe you should start employing some more captains now that I have expanded our empire to 100 star systems."
"Ahahahah. You're kidding, right? We will build only one ship to defend our people at a time. That is all. You fail."
"Doesn't matter that you can clone me and build a new ship in a matter of seconds?"
"No! Now go away!" *Click*
"Well fine. I'll go back micromanaging my colonies. And see if I don't!"

The thread is here, and it looks like a developer has responded since the big hullabaloo broke out about it. It's a much more level-headed response than the original moderator's red edit.

These comments are absolutely not true or in-line with EA’s moderation policy," an EA spokesperson told Kotaku. "They were made by an over-zealous community volunteer who does not work for EA.

I'm sorry, Dave. I can't let you read that.

Apparently the mod responsible for this misconception has also lost his Spore Master status. There's a thread floating around somewhere where he's complaining, but it's best not to resurrect such things.

I did not mean to offend anyone with this topic, i just said that if this was true its totally unacceptable. i havent gotten much info about this i just read it on multiple gaming sites and was shocked. im glad EA acted mature and revoked this moderators master status. but one thing the secound poster said, i didnt mean sueing the person for making such treaths, but sueing EA for banning you from playing a game you actually paid for, if this isnt possible as long as you followed the rules thats wierd. and if they were to ban you, they should only ban you from the online feature. once again, sorry if anyone got angry or anything over this thread cus i was only a little angry that a moderator could do such a thing and get away with it, but now that its dealt with im all happy.
