I tried making a frog-like creature, but I noticed that when jumping, it seems to jump with its wrists and ankles, keeping the legs bent up in their standard sitting position. It would be nice if those back legs, like any limbs involved in jumping, would straighten themselves out at least most of the way. This would help in the immersion experience.

I think this idea would work better if you could select the animation style for your creature.

i.e. Be able to select form saY:
Frog-type animation
Insect-type animation
Primate-type animation
Human-type animation
Canine-type animation
Feline-type animation
etc etc

Yeah, what kentosi said sounds like something that could be envisioned for a new feature.

You kinda already have this with the different types of legs, the ability to move the joints around, and the Test Drive feature.

Use those to get the jump you want. I was able to try a couple different leg types and shift the joints until my eagle/leopard hybrid got this cool looking stride I was going for. Lots of fun.

Speaking of which, I've also noticed that they don't run the same in-game as they do in Test Drive. Some things don't seem 'activated' like flagella.
