If you still see the error 'Login failed: You do not have the proper spore. com privileges', try browsing to C:\Documents and Settings\ (windows user name) \Application Data\Spore\Preferences\ then delete the file login.prop and try again.

But I use a mac and have that error. What about a Mac fix?
I looked through various forums, sent EA a ticket (to which no response in 10 days) and haven't found any answers. I went in Terminal and did some deleting and that didn't help these error messages either. There is no login.<something> that I can find anywhere on my computer.

As for the exact errors I'm getting, when I start Spore and after all the intro videos the auto login/registration attempt gives me "LOGIN FAILED: The code for this installation is invalid and cannot be used to link this product to your account". Once I try again by going in OPTIONS < SETTINGS < ONLINE SETTINGS I enter my screenname and p/w, and I can see the server connection status text change to a green "User Connected" but in the foreground I get a pop up that says "LOGIN FAILED: You do not have the proper Spore.com privileges to use this product's online features."

  • I am using a Spore account that I made during Creature Creator Trial.

  • I can log in on spore.com fine.

  • I purchased my copy of spore as a downloadable from http://www.transgaming.com/.

  • I did not pre-order.

  • My email address is the same for everything spore related.

  • Please help. It's been nearly 2 weeks now with no ticket response from EA. Thank you.

    I contacted gametreeonline, and in a matter of minutes I get this response:

    Dear Customer,

    Thank you for contacting us about your SPORE purchase. We want to ensure you have a great
    experience playing SPORE.

    Upon receipt of this support request we have begun the process of deactivating your current
    SPORE Key, and have provided for you below, a NEW Activation Key. Please follow the quick
    and easy steps provided to ensure you can get back to playing SPORE and ruling the universe.

    NEW Activation Key: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    Quick and Easy Steps:
    1. Locate and remove your "SPORE Preferences" folder, located under
    /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Preferences/SPORE Preferences/
    (*NOTE* We have automated this process for you by using the script located at:
    http://www.gametreeonline.com/files/ea/deleteSPOREprefs.zip -- save this file to your
    desktop, double click on it to extract deleteSPOREprefs.app, then double click on that
    application to run it and follow the prompts.) YOU WILL LOSE ANY SAVED GAME CONTENT BY
    PROCEEDING.
    2. Re-launch SPORE and enter your New Activation Key above.
    3. Have fun playing SPORE!

    Okay great, a solution. Sucks I loose my saved game data but whatever I guess...

    EDIT: okay NOW I'M GETTING ANOTHER ERROR. I can't even start the game now. This is so frustrating!! OMFG It's never ending. Error here:

    i found this over at spore UK EA support forums
    * Open Terminal
    * Go to /etc directory (cd /etc)
    * Open the hosts file (sudo nano hosts)
    * Insert your admin password
    * Delete the line "127.0.0.1 proxy.novafusion.ea.com"
    * Save file
    * Start and enjoy Spore

    Something you can try and its been known to work.

    They say I will loose all my saved game data but I found out how to keep it! Instead of deleting the "SPORE Preferences" or using the automated thingy, drag the "SPORE Preferences" folder to the desktop. Load the game up and it will make a new "SPORE Preferences" folder. Close the game, go to the newly created "SPORE Preferences" folder and delete the "p_drive" folder. Now replace it with the p_drive folder you saved on your desktop.
    The p_drive folder is where all the content is (mine was over 3 gigs and the newly created one was like 44kb, that's how I came to this realization).

    I'm so glad I found this out by myself because I invested A LOT of time in this game already, lol.

    I didn't purchase mine from gametree online, so where can I get a new activation code from?

    I'm having this same problem. I tried the above mentioned techniques with the same activation code in case I typed it in wrong, but after quadruple checking it, there was no error in my typing. It does, however, still say that my activation code isn't working. Help?

    I was able to find the login.prop on my mac. It is under my user directory in ./Library/Preferences/SPORE Preferences/p_drive/User/Application Data/Spore/Preferences/login.prop. If that doesn't work, you can try the command "find . -name login.prop" from your home directory.

    After removing the login.prop, I was able to login.

    Edited: OK. I found the prop file and deleted it, started the game, and it took me to the registration page. I tried re-registering, I tried logging in, it still says my registration code is invalid.

    Are you sure you're looking under your user's library, rather than the one in your hard drive's root level?

    BB never loses an argument, in the same way that a ten-year-old never loses at CoD because he shuts off the Xbox when things go badly.

    So did I enter the registration code wrong? Why didn't the game just tell me to re-enter it? Can I go back and enter it again?

    If the registration code was wrong, it wouldn't have installed. You could re-enter it when you reinstall (I think, it's been a while), but I don't think that's the problem. Are you looking in the right Library?
