Greetings, I have been searching through my library of quadrupeds(4 legged creatures) and have found something very disturbing.

patch 1.01 stapled all of the creatures feet to wheels, all of their flawless walking and running animations have turned to a pile of generic crap.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about.

version 1.00

version 1.01

[sarcasm]I just love how there is no difference in the walk and run states now[/sarcasm]

EDIT: seems youtube links do not work... oh well just click on the version numbers for the videos.

The 1.01 animations look great!

Much better and more complex than the 1.0 animations.

Only problem I see is the clipping, and that's your fault.

1.00 does look much better, running and walking are the exact same thing in 1.01, and the reason it seems more complex is the PROBLEM, the creature has straight legs on the front, in 1.0 you can clearly see him moving as if he had straight legs on the front, now it just looks like hes trying to bend his knee.

Basically, animals don't lope. They just speedwalk. I also miss this as it looked -wonderful-. I made some creatures that had that whole silky smooth running that cats do right down to the undulating spine and tail. Now, they kinda just walk fast.

If you really didn't change anything other than getting the patch, then yeah, 1.01 screwed up your monkey.

Almost sig-worthy.

I really have to agree with you on this. Many of my creatures are specifically designed to do the same thing, but as of now they don't function properly. A good deal of work was put into this, and it would be nice to have an option to turn the old walk animations back on.

Nothing has been modified with the model.

Now with bipedal and more then 4 legged creatures do animate better. But the 'improved' quad animation just bugs the hell out of me currently.

I suspect this happened unintentionally while lots of other problems were fixed and ugliness improved. Glad it is being brought to attention, because I too miss the prettiness

I actually find the patch to highly improve the walking animation, and it is impossible for the game to bend a creature with no knee, you obviously have a modified model.

And never put legs one in front of the other set, put them more to the left or right, works for me.

Having not made any quadrupeds before the patch, I didn't notice this. But it certainly had a real running gait to it. That'd be something to get back.

Also, is that an Elcor I see?

Yay, someone got it. It is my Elcor made in the trial SCC. He does actually have an elbow, but in neither cases decided to animate it much.

I hadn't noticed since I didn't really make any 4-legged creatures since the patch, but yeah, where'd the galloping gait go? That walking gait they have now seems intended for centaurs. It looks really nice for creatures with like 10 legs, and even 2, but there should be some kind of animation selector. I'm all for procedural animation, but how about procedural with preference variables?

I've also noticed this. Legs now fly out in all directions. Creatures that galloped before I'm lucky to get a gawky lope from. I'm having to re-edit creatures that looked okay before, but now parts attach funny, and the walk I spent so much time on looks dopey as all get out... have had to re-edit to make them look a little less like they are tripping over their own legs.

P.S. Gorgeous Ape animation in the 1.00 version, btw. Great Job

I'm another user who thinks the 1.00 quad animations look better.
