The USGS Astrogeology research program has published various topographic maps of the Earth's surface. Spore's Kate Compton used bump maps created by artist Robert Johnston from the USGS data to recreate a planet in Spore that looks like the Earth!

I think a couiple of creators remade the earth (and got i nto a small war over it) a while ago. They were good, but unusable for anything realistic, I hope this is more usable than that. You really ought to have releaed one with GA.

Any chance of releasing some more planets (such is one that is perectly flat)?

Cactus, you should make a contest using the template - the only rule, no terraforming involving sea levels and land levels.

Hey, Cactus (and anyone else), when do we get a cheat that allows us to cube/bump map our own planets? It frustrates me so much that I see you people doing things like this, but we can't. As the main map maker for an open source computer game, it pains me even more!
