Just how would something expand to infinity?
tachyons.

The rate of expansion is multiplied by something, and that is multiplied too, so the rate of expansion of the rate of expansion gets to the size of the universe times infinity to the power of infinity. Which, of course, is infinity.

Nothing can expand into infinity.
Also, alpacka, do you even know what tachyons are?

It can't just randomly expand from a number to infinity.

Think he was pointing out that expanding to infinity is impossible because no matter how far or how fast you expand, you are always as far away from infinity as one.

If its a sheer amount of fail, then you wouldn't mind explaining how you can fill an unfillable space i.e. because to do so you would need to reach infinity

A simple explanation:
It multiplies itself by the numbers he said, until it is like infinity, it would be too big to type.
The universe is an ever expanding googleplex of numbers.

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

Um, if its ever expanding its not infinite...
People here don't seem to understand the concept of infinity.
The only way it could be infinite is if the 4 dimensional aspect of space was curved in on itself forming a sphere but its not expanding into three dimensions and, really it isn't infinite.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
The universe could expand continuously, since there's no feasible reason why it shouldn't. If spacetime is curved hyperbolically, this will be the scenario to our current knowledge.
If you think of arguing that to do so would either:
a) Require an infinite 'space' in which it expands'
or
b) Eventually, expanding forever means it must reach 'infinity' in size
Then think again.
Since the universe is 'everything' (exclusing theories of branes, higher dimensionality etc. that cannot be proven) then as it xpands, the volume of 'space' that is possible expands with it. There is nothing in the most fundamental sense of the word, 'outside' the universe which it expands into, since the universe IS everything.
The concept of 'forever' is a concept of infinite amount of time. That time is a relative and inseparable phenomena of the universe's expansion, then time will continue AS THE UNIVERSE EXPANDS.
If the universe has a closed geometry, curving in on itself, then it can be considered to have no boundary. Whilst this is finite, the sheer scale and rate of expansion prevent any traversing an entire geodesic at sub-luminal speed. Therefore, to all intents and purpose, the consideration of infinity is agreeable if not entirely accurate:
Something which can never be reached and always greater than any measurement can ascertain by an incalculable magnitude.

The universe can expand to infinity because space is not matter, and is not restricted to the speed of light. If the univere expands at Infinity mph, then it will become infinity instantly.
